- str1fe, on 07/12/2008, -2/+10***** that, Pluto is a planet.
- inactive, on 07/12/2008, -1/+9Pluto will always be awesome in my book.

"The dwarf planet Ceres is not a plutoid as it is located in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Current scientific knowledge lends credence to the belief that Ceres is the only object of its kind. Therefore, a separate category of Ceres-like dwarf planets will not be proposed at this time.
In Oslo, members of the IAU also discussed the timing involved with the naming of new plutoids. Again, following the advice of the Division III Board and the two Working Groups, it was decided that, for naming purposes, any Solar System body having (a) a semimajor axis greater than that of Neptune, and (b) an absolute magnitude brighter than H = +1 (see Notes) will, for the purpose of naming, be considered to be a plutoid, and be named by the WGPSN and the CSBN. Name(s) proposed by the discovery team(s) will be given deference. If further investigations show that the object is not massive enough and does not qualify as a plutoid, it will keep its name but change category."
I think 'dwarf planet' was a better name. - Mootabolife, on 07/12/2008, -0/+4I have an alternative which will end the debate.. Altoids.
- RSS14, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3You know why you don't care? Because you are stupid.
- Yshinozuka, on 07/12/2008, -2/+5Should still be a planet..
- Rizin, on 07/12/2008, -1/+4You can not get rid of Pluto being a planet damn it.
My Very Eccentric Mother Just served us nine....
NINE WHAT! - dirTdogE, on 07/11/2008, -2/+5Just cool.
- calenerd, on 07/12/2008, -1/+3how about Steriods?
- swordedge, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2old news and terrible name
Just call them planets and promote 8 of them to major planet.
If big enough to be round, is planet
if in regular orbit on the orbital plane and has mostly cleared out orbit, Major planet.
These definitions would have ceres and pluto as planets but 8 major planets.
It would also allow for a "dwarf planet" that is bigger then earth. - linksus, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2Holy *****.. have i just traveled back in time?
- Ghoul, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2Ceres was once considered a planet, along with several of the other first asteroids discovered. They were later reclassified when it was realized that there were many more than "a few" similar objects.

Note that Ceres is not a Plutoid because it isn't trans-Neptunian. - inactive, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2Thats not the point , the point is pluto and ceres share many characteristics. The way mars and earth do.
Its like pluto is much more similar to ceres than it is to neptune.
We probably didn't know that ... - asteron, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1Back in the 1800's when Ceres was first discovered astronomers thought it was a planet as well. It stayed a planet for 50 years. Over time though the trickle of newly discovered asteroids like Juno, Vesta, and Pallas became a flood and Ceres was demoted to an asteroid.
The story of Pluto is eerily similar. Of course Ceres is still the largest of its kind while Pluto is smaller than Eris and possibly other Kuiper belt objects.
The moral of the story is that its never to late to correct a mistake. - aronnyc, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1These are all just rocks and stuff orbiting the sun, possibly made of different substances, but what does it matter? Jupiter and Earth are made of different substances, but are all called planets. What makes Pluto any different? Pluto for Planet! Pluto for Planet!
- jamessavik, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1I apologize to short people. DORKTOIDS can be applied to any DORKS regardless of size.
I love short people and enjoy sex with you very much. :P - JuanBSU, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1nine plutoids
- chubbybubba, on 07/12/2008, -1/+2"This is OLD news!" - John HEMORRH (Scientist who discovered and named a little known little planet on the dark side of the moon as well as the Prep-H cluster assteroids)
- jamessavik, on 07/12/2008, -1/+2So... are short dorky people DORKTOIDS?
- BigManOnCampus, on 07/11/2008, -2/+3That's a slight on Ceres, since it was discovered long before Pluto. They should be called Ceroids
- DontGiveADamn, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1Yes
- Swordman554, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1Buried for being old.
- inactive, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1It is a planet ... geeze. dwarf ____PLANET____. Whats all the fuss about.
- valleyvideo, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1Sorry - PLUTIODS is an awful name. "Dwarf planet" was descriptive and appropriate.
In 100 years it will be nothing more than a speedbump in science class when the teacher has to explain why we call everything smaller than Neptune a 'Plutoid' rather than just calling them 'Dwarf Planets' which they f*^&ing ARE. - newsomer, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1Isn't that special? Now that logic and reason has won over and Pluto is now not included in the brotherhood of big planets all the people who have had their feelings hurt can feel a little better. That's the way to do it, let emotions overrule fact and sully true science. Where have I heard this before? Politics, religion vs science, maybe a little.
- inactive, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1I doubt it's a respect. Pluto is a planet, so are Ceres, Eris, Quaoar, Varuna and Sedna. These are planets revolving around the same Sun.
- jaybol, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1hi june 11th called and they want their news headline back..i am guilty of submitting old stuff myself from time to time but it is surprising that such a big headline could be revived over a month later
- or3n, on 07/12/2008, -2/+2"Pluto is finally getting its day in the sun"
I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE :> - inactive, on 07/12/2008, -1/+1They should define planets as a planetary body that orbits a star that have a discernible atmosphere no matter what their size is.
And if we find out that Pluto has an atmosphere, it should be granted its regular planet status over it's newer dwarf __planet__ status. - Rudegar, on 07/12/2008, -0/+0what about dwarf hunters?
- sardiax, on 07/12/2008, -1/+1I don't think Ceres was ever a planet.
- bobiton65, on 07/12/2008, -0/+0Pluto doesn't care if its a planet or not. .
...just as long as we visit once in a while. - thealsir, on 07/12/2008, -0/+0Come on guys! It has a mass relay orbiting it. That should be enough for it to garner "special" status. :D
- gkiltz, on 07/12/2008, -0/+0We'll know a lot more about it when that probe that is on it's way finally arrives!
Takes more than 9 years after launch!
Should open up the whole area!
Takes like an hour to get a radio signal back, so nothing will be quite real time!
Be interesting to see what surprises are in store. An existing Government staffed by Plutocrats maybe? - roryk27, on 07/13/2008, -0/+0 none of this is going to matter when planet x destroys everything in the year 2012...
some crazy guy here has got me believing that crap - cavedude, on 07/12/2008, -0/+0I thought they already were Plutoids? At least that's what I've been calling Pluto since it was downgraded, and other bodies like it.
- Gillagad, on 07/12/2008, -1/+1The IAU strongly disagrees with your statement.
Seriously I don't get why people care, the IAU decided it would be a good idea to have a formal definition of a planet and that formal definition happened to demote Pluto. - inactive, on 07/12/2008, -0/+0midget planet sex.

- LeviTheSmith, on 07/12/2008, -3/+1I got a bad case of plutoids(or the toids we called them) once. It itched and burned so I had to use cream every night before bed and take 4 pills a day.
I had to goto meetings to deal with the depression that comes with plutiods, which helped alot. I eventually got it surgically removed by a doctor in Taiwan. The operation took 14 hours but after it was over I was EXTREMELY happy(and sore, lol)
Recovery time took about 3.5 weeks laying in bed eating nothing but soup.
But now I'm plutoid-free!
Yours sincerely, A Plutoid Survivor. - Pusod, on 07/12/2008, -3/+1Wow! News travels fast around here! Plutoids! "I can't believe i've never heard or read an article about that NEW word before!"
/extreme sarc - inactive, on 07/12/2008, -4/+1If you r calling pluto a planet u r 'discriminating' against several bodies that are not called planets Ex: ceres
- thecheatah, on 07/12/2008, -10/+1Umm.. I DONT CARE..
