I was going to insult your intelligence.
But I think your screen name does it for me.
Good Day Sir! - abovejesus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5other planets are sooo awesome
- zym1z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Keep in mind.. NASA never sent a mission to the surface of Venus. We tend to take for granted NASA's management of its exploration artifacts--past and present. Soviet era pictures and scientific information isn't as easy to come by. This is good stuff.
- IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Oh and now it turns out you're story is some sort of huge scam?
Oh man. - kamikazicondon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it almost seems like earth..creepy
- slightlyspacey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not to mention the fact that the atmospheric pressure on the surface of Venus is 91 times the pressure on Earth. That's 1283 PSI or the equivalent of diving 3000 feet below the surface of the sea.
- manicdvln, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3From the pictures, it seems the planet resembles closely to earth, since it actually has a dynamic atmosphere unlike boring mars.
- mcottier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why would we, it's Venus.
- xs650, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Surface temperature of Venus is "only" about 480C. About 900F. No problem for rocks, obviously shortens spacecraft life though.
- MoonDogAFO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder if newer materials could be used to make a longer-lived lander to be sent to Venus. C'mon NASA - make it so!
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's average temperature is 866.93 degrees Fahrenheit. Meanwhile, lava is 2000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Also, the lander survived ONLY long enough to take these pictures. - gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4mirrored:

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.html - mcottier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I love looking at other worlds up close like this. It ain't earth, and that is pretty damn cool to think about. But also it looks like a place that could exist on earth, so that shows you how there are most likely other earth like planets in this huge universe.
- IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Stop comment spamming by making promoting your story.
- NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed!
- NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was justing thinking the same thing. I looks like you could just walk around out there. But then again i guess an oven looks like you could crawl into until you open it. But i think we need to seen our own probe. I'm sure we could last longer than an hour with our current technology and engineering.
- oogee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Like some of you, I expected the surface to look a bit more exotic than just a scattered array of rocks. It rains sulphuric acid on Venus for Christ sake!
- tainedhero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well that went fast.

- oogee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3True. It could easily be a picture of Earth. I wonder if there are conspiracy nuts in Russia claiming a "Venus Landing Hoax"
- theworldisround, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5In Soviet Russia, these jokes still aren't funny.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is hard to get around 900 degrees temperature. I always thought a lander could avoid being roasted if it landed on a high standing area of lower pressure and temperature. The adiabatic lapse rate on Venus is about 10.5 deg K per kilometer.
http://pds-atmospheres.nmsu.edu/education_and_outreach/encyclopedia/adiabatic_lapse_rate.htm
The highest standing region on Venus is Ishtar Terra at about 10 km above the planetary mean.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishtar_Terra
So the temperature up there is about 105 deg K (190 deg F) less than the low lands. 700 deg is still pretty high. Perhaps gliders or balloons. - groo68, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2in soviet Russia jokes laugh at you -_-
- oogee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Why do you stupid stinky douchebags keep promoting this weak ass story? Look at his submission history:

What do you people have to gain by it? I hope there are some kind of costly anti-spam laws in Wonka land. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1How did the lander survive long enough to take photos? And how did those rock survive? Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system!
- underdog138, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5So they terraformed Venus and built a fancy office building on it while I wasn't looking? That's, like super kewl man. Comment buried.
- hazexp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If I recall correctly, it only lasted something close to an hour, and many components of the space-craft were made of diamond to withstand the intense heat.
- ThisIsBob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Not so fast, growler 1
I had a colonoscopy yesterday and sedatedly watched on the monitor. Frankly, the interior of my lower intestine looks a lot cooler than the surface of Venus. - Lethaldread, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1wow, I like those photos. Lets send more paramedics........ probes.
- venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5In Soviet Russia, Venus photographs landers.
See, it wasn't THAT hard to come up with one. - growler1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I want to congratulate you all for not posting a "Uranus" joke yet.
- scb0825, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Greetings! My name a Borat. I very much like your Vanus picture. I buy from you for sexual encounter.
- sremick, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Someone should post a link on Digg to some moon photos. I hear we went there too.

- twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1I guess Venus is closer to the sun than Mercury, now?
- masgrada, on 10/12/2007, -13/+7really! I had no idea anyone landed on venus.
- Orangutan, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2OLD NEWS! these have been around since the 1970s... that was just for old times sake
