- bigbangbuddha, on 08/02/2008, -30/+182Bush's reply - "fine, fine, but is there oil?"
- Spetz, on 08/02/2008, -4/+120Hopefully they have found something significant and it'll boost NASA's funding.

Which doesn't surprise me, Digg is full of people like that. - Eldorian, on 08/03/2008, -1/+91nypix is according to the timestamps.
Which doesn't surprise me, Digg is full of people like that. - Phazoni, on 08/03/2008, -1/+74I just read this exact same comment on Slashdot. So who's the plagiarist?
- the3stars, on 08/02/2008, -18/+86I bet one of the Phoenix cameras captured a UFO... Lets just hope the aliens decide to make first contact after the November elections, I really really don't want to see Bush hunched over the podium with one corner of his mouth turned up in a sly grin as he explains to us that attacking the aliens first is the best idea because 'they're after our freedom.'
- lemonlimeblog, on 08/02/2008, -5/+67Isn't this how Michael Bay's Transformers started?
- wonderchemist, on 08/02/2008, -6/+58I bet they found a monolith in the regolith.
- BitterStoat, on 08/02/2008, -15/+66As if Bush cared one bit about science.
- GCarden, on 08/03/2008, -4/+49That's actually really funny. I've never heard that joke before.
- kingUssop, on 08/03/2008, -1/+45Keep in mind NASA scientists have very different things to get excited about than us. While we'd think "wow maybe there was an ancient living planet there once" they'd think "wow these soil samples have some interesting minerals!"

Which doesn't surprise me, Digg is full of people like that. - d0nk3y, on 08/02/2008, -5/+44Please, no more oil/WMDs/Let's Invade jokes on the space stories..
Can't wait to hear the results. - inactive, on 08/02/2008, -2/+39The MECA instrument, in its first of four wet chemistry runs a month ago, found soil chemistry that is "Earth-like" and capable of supporting life.
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -4/+38"Anti-Bush comment"
- daeken, on 08/03/2008, -0/+31That would be a very important discovery, since liquid water can't exist on the surface of Mars IIRC.
- inactive, on 08/02/2008, -16/+45I wish the answer to one of the greatest questions in science didn't have to go through that man. The same man that nuked our economy into $500 billion in debt. =/
- Badandy127, on 08/03/2008, -1/+29Our debt was 4 trillion before Bush. The whole government sucks, not just Bush...
- dha07030, on 08/02/2008, -5/+33I don't want to see another post till we know what the ***** it is.
- darkzeroman, on 08/03/2008, -3/+30on another note,
did ya know Obama wants to stall funding for the Constellation program! I was a Obama supporter but I'm totally against this in regard to Obama. - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -0/+23No, I don't recall sorry.
- Locke2053, on 08/03/2008, -0/+22We've made first contact. It turns out, the bacteria in the soil of Mars make up the neurons of one gigantic planetary brain. We've never communicated with it before because it has a sleep cycle of 40,000 years. It's smarter than we are, and now it's waking up pissed off because we jabbed it in the head.
- Chiwawa, on 08/03/2008, -6/+26They found a girl with 3 boobs...remember that?
- bitwr4ngler, on 08/03/2008, -1/+21Probably found a note from 1938 that says, "BRB, went to Grover's Mill for milk and eggs."
- erkokite, on 08/03/2008, -1/+19What makes you think that Nypix doesn't also use Slashdot?
- A2007HokieAlumn, on 08/02/2008, -2/+17They found the fossil of a Montauk monster!
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+14That's on Titan. It was announced last week.
- Sabretou, on 08/03/2008, -2/+15ZigVicious is according to the timestamps.
Which doesn't surprise me, Digg is full of people like that. - DeadlyCouncil, on 08/03/2008, -1/+14Holy ***** just announce something already this is killing me
- Jhiaxuz, on 08/03/2008, -1/+14The only way NASA gets funding is if the Russians are involved.
- eraser34, on 08/03/2008, -2/+14Can he spell Phoenix?
- krnldmp, on 08/03/2008, -0/+12Where's the damned microscope pictures. And no, I don't mean pictures of the microscope.
- diablo75, on 08/03/2008, -0/+12Next, Phobos.
- V3NOM, on 08/03/2008, -0/+11How the hell are we supposed to get "further into space" if we have yet to even get to Mars ourselves?
- CrashKC, on 08/25/2008, -1/+12They found a Starbucks.
- aterimperator, on 08/03/2008, -0/+11Well then, let's get them involved.
- pinguy, on 08/03/2008, -1/+12Maybe they found out that Mars was once just like Earth before it's core cooled down?
But what I am really want to know is have they found Marvin? - karaokekidd, on 08/03/2008, -0/+11And the rover awoke...
- darkciti2, on 08/03/2008, -0/+11Sabretou is according to the timestamps.
Which doesn't surprise me, Digg is full of people like that. - cgbspender, on 08/02/2008, -1/+12see http://digg.com/space/Phoenix_has_Found_Something_ ...
My bet is they repeated the heating experiment that did not provide "conclusive evidence" of carbon on Mars the first time (a month ago) and now they obviously have reliable evidence that they indeed found carbon.
http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2008/06/26/mars-dust ... - wilywondr, on 08/03/2008, -1/+12Insignificant to idiots that cannot understand anything NASA says.
- PabloMac, on 08/03/2008, -0/+10Here a trillion, there a trillion, everywhere a trillion trillion.
- Brad324, on 08/03/2008, -0/+10*stabs above poster repeatedly*
*STAB* *STAB* *STAB* *STAB* - tech42er, on 08/03/2008, -0/+10Like when they landed on the moon, right? I mean, big ***** whoop, we put a man on the moon! Hyperbolic bastards.
- Fishn2, on 08/03/2008, -0/+10I think you ought to know I'm feeling very depressed.
- opticwind, on 08/03/2008, -1/+11Did a single one of you read the article? "Scientists are keen to point out however, that this secretive news will in no way indicate the existence of life (past or present) on Mars; Phoenix simply is not equipped make this discovery."
- cryonix, on 08/03/2008, -0/+9The MarsPhoenix Twitter has claimed all the announcements and briefing with the White House are all untrue.
"MarsPhoenix: Reports claiming there was a White House briefing are also untrue and incorrect."
"MarsPhoenix Heard about the recent news reports implying I may have found Martian life. Those reports are incorrect."
http://twitter.com/MarsPhoenix - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -0/+8I believe you have underestimated the Digg community.
- RabidAngel, on 08/03/2008, -0/+8They repeatedly state that it's "not an announcement of life being discovered", so... it probably isn't. But it might be something that indirectly points towards a strong likelihood of life. As others have already stated herein, these past few weeks (months?) absolutely reek of a concerted effort to "prep" everyone for an announcement of unprecedented magnitude.
