- PowerMax, on 10/10/2007, -2/+42Isn't the word supposed to end in 2012?

- MrStabby, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Higher resolution sir...This is not 1998
- loconet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I hear is going to be cloudy..
- andrewcsayer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12What about the map for colossal meteor strikes 2007-2107?
- JackT, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Dugg in case Digg stays around for 16 more years.
- ideapower, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11it's the end of the word as we know it, and i feel fi
- listrophy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Screw Illinois and its two solar eclipses.
Signed,
-Every Wisconsinite - weijie90, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8For your information, IE is much less standards-compliant than FF. I hate having to create a separate CSS stylesheet for IE users when I create pages, even though the CSS works in Opera and Firefox.
- HunterTV, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I need a map to predict a total eclipse of the heart.
- Okitaz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Right click> View image
- kingfoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7idiot, it's a fookin image, it will still look like ***** in your godforsaken IE. as a matter of fact, it DOES look like ***** in IE and FF, and will in Opera and any other browser you use to view the image. The fact is, the image is a scaled down version (seen here http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEatlas/SEatlas3/SE2001-25T-2.GIF ), and was compressed horribly.
- whataboutdave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Not for me.
- jull1234, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Looks like Europe loses.
- teh_techie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8OH NOES!!!... IT'S THE END OF THE WORD!!!
- cptn_cardboard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6*laughs at canada*
- Nantel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You noticed the spot on the US mainland that will get two total eclipses in 7 years? To top it off, it will be in optimal position for the 2017 one.
- kingfoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5well looks like youll have a couple chances to see one before you die, 08 and 09 have one, i see oen IN 2012, so just make sure you are in the right place at the right time.
thank you and enjoy your doom. - Zeekstah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5K, I'll go and tell NASA that they were wrong then.
eclipses can be easily calculated. - greatcaffeine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Even if I ignore the horrible security flaws in IE, it's still the worst browser I've used. Can't render anything correctly, and it's dead slow at rendering/mangling pages. I'll take Safari or Firefox, please!
- Okitaz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6That's a long time to wait :-(
- sexybobo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+521 august 2017 bitches. unless i move in the next 10 years.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Check this out for detail on the 2017 one...
http://www.hermit.org/eclipse/2017-08-21/ - kingfoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3how? it's simple, where a blue band is, is where the eclipse will be visible, on the date that is associated with said area.
- JavertHolmes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3What do the asterisk-type symbols mean? The legend seems to say nothing about them.
- kingfoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3dont worry, you'll miss it, since... y'kno, it ends in 2012...
- ChocChunkOaties, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Here's a link to the same pic and has the partials included:
http://astronomyonline.org/References/EclipseMap.GIF - cadethansen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3DANG!!! I don't get any eclipse's =(
- macaddct1984, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Pink & the Brain would have a field-day with this info
- interiot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That's probably the point of the "greatest eclipse", the instant when the axis of the Moon's shadow passes closest to Earth's center (which tends to be very close to the instants of greatest magnitude and greatest duration). See for instance page 52 of this PDF for a close-up of the 2008 Russia eclipse: http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEpubs/TP214149b.pdf
- ToastyMallows, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Sweet it's passing through Ohio in 2024!
I'm marking my calender! - Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Not if I take over Antarctica with my army of Mexicans.
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why does everyone think the world ends in 2012?! It's just the end of a baktun, a long period of time. Maybe the Mayans got bored and just stopped making the calendar. People are taking it too seriously.
- elnerdo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You have a very long calendar.
- harksaw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm still pissed about how when I was in 5th grade we had an eclipse come through New Jersey, and they made us all stay inside for recess so we wouldn't go blind looking at it. Must have been about 1994.
Thirteen years later, still never have seen one, and I"m going to have to wait until 2017 until one comes around here. - mb3581, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5maybe i'm just dumb, but I am slightly confused by this pic...?
- Daniel001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Nice map, but most of them are either in the sea or the at the North or South pole :(
- SushiCW, on 10/10/2007, -9/+11Interesting, but the map is partially obscured by the blog's right sidebar (in Firefox).
- PhilBoswell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Just click on the image: it's a link.
- zixx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The asterisk symbol is where the eclipse will last the longest the blue area will get totality but not at long as at that point.
- macaddct1984, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Doh. Pinky*
- FizixMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What about the black asterisks along the blue bands?
- vuzman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The 2015 eclipse passes a little dot in the Atlantic Ocean (just below the asterisk). That’s the Faroe Islands, a small country with 50,000 inhabitants, so there are definitely some Europeans that will witness the 2015 eclipse front row. There are flights to the Faroes from several other European countries (UK, DK, NO, IS), so I’m guessing the hotels are about to be fully booked already… ;)
- nozol03, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, but where's my total eclipse of the heart map?
"Turn around.... every now and then I get a little bit lonely and your never coming round
Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears
Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by
Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit terrified and then I see the *****' look in your eyes" - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This configuration marks the 5 year warning of the end of times...the final warning will be the South Pacific solar eclipse in Nov. of 2012
- third_eye, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Way to be early - a decade out, no less.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1:( I really want to see a total eclipse before I die
I just hope I somehow remember to drive through texas (ew) in 2024
Sad that arizona isnt getting any T_T - thethorn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Sweet. I live near Carbondale.
- davewashere, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you aren't expanding your browser to full screen, you'll notice a partial eclipse of the map by the sidebar. If you want to know where you'll need to be if you want to see the next sidebar eclipse, please consult this map...
