- KMye, on 10/11/2007, -0/+168Well that doesn't look so hard from up there...
- ChrisF79, on 10/11/2007, -5/+116Server down... Proof positive that we need a Digg picture section with automatic mirroring. Code that up right fast, Kevin.
- theysayjump, on 10/11/2007, -2/+66Am I the only one who was a little disappointed?
- yevkasem, on 10/11/2007, -1/+47kevin. code. lol.
- Tomholius, on 10/11/2007, -0/+30thats it, im going to have to take a pic of it myself... stupid interwebs
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+30How underwhelming.
- fweeky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19I hate EPOD for constantly using tiny, tiny images. 400 x 291 pixels, with the "full-size" one barely VGA resolution? What is this, the 90's?

29035ft is 8850m, not 8,934m (this _is_ a .edu site...). Is the author suggesting he thinks Mallory and Irvine got to the top in 1924 ('and to safely return' - Mallory and Irvine died somewhere high on the mountain, and it's hard to prove that they didn't make it).
I've never heard Everest called the 'roof of the world', though Tibet often is called this. The Nepalese government came up with the Nepalese-language name 'Sagarmatha' relatively recently (and it doesn't mean 'Abode of Snow' - that's the meaning of the Sanskrit word 'Himalaya') - the only Nepalese locals near Everest are the Sherpas; the Sherpa language is derived from Tibetan. 'Qomolongma' is the transliterated (Pinyin) Chinese version of the Tibetan name, so if you have any doubts about China's claim to Tibet, you might not want to use it.
Since there doesn't seem to be a hi-res version of this photo, check out Google Earth for some amazingly detailed views of Everest and its neighbours.
Andy - nobody98, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12K2 is a much harder climb. id like to see a space photo of that.
