- SlvrEagle23, on 10/12/2007, -29/+250Picture shows curvature of Earth. Everyone knows the Earth is flat, and Jesus is coming tomorrow. Buried as inaccurate.
- onionizer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+165..aaand.. welcome to my desktop, Picture!
- bjornski, on 10/12/2007, -15/+142If you're using a Mac, just act smug and the computer will detect what you want to do and do it automatically.
Otherwise, if you're on a real computer, right-click the image, and select "save image as..." from the drop down menu. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+96ALT + F4
- onionizer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+79You've gotta yell at your screen "SAVE IT!, SAVE IT!" as loud as you can.
- Smeed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+75Thats not a moon, its the death star stupid.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+69I cropped it to 1280x800 for my laptop, just thought I'd post it here to save someone some time:

- edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36Swamp gas, from a weather balloon, passing across Venus.
- RubberBand, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32If you view it at full resolution, you can see a single star-like object right below the moon.
- Br0wn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33Hey I can see my house from here.
- xyqxyq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Who is this "Ms. Paint" and how can I contact her?
- Ngai, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30is an Alien!!!! ZOMG!!!....
- markfulton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24How in the hell did that image load so fast? Amazing. Cool photo too :P
- Hashiro, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24*****... Replied to wrong one...
- jockser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20this is a fake and was done by ms paint from windows 3.11 with Hebrew support obviously
- Farik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Yet another duplicate: http://digg.com/space/The_coolest_photo_of_Earth_s_atmosphere_you_will_see_today
Although, it is definitely a worth duplicate. - DonSlice, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Why am I getting dugg down for this??
- Kyle660, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Here, I fixed it!
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l53/mongoloidballet/Dstar.jpg - DonSlice, on 10/12/2007, -13/+23Wow... That's beautiful.
- jesuschrysler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10^So mad at clouds
- La5eR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10If you look at the cloud structure you can see a lone Cumulonimbus it looks like its topped off with a Cumulonimbus Capilattus. That looks like a wicked T-Storm. By the filename it looks as if it came from the ISS in a low orbit before their orbit-boost.
- purple, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9It's hosted on the nasa website, and they probably expect a lot of views.
- bjornski, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15Thank you, Sepultura!
I'm sure some morons will dig you down for some reason, but you made my afternoon with that picture. It's beautiful.
Again, Thank you! - KMye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8My thoughts exactly, def worth a dupe. Also, it's interesting to see how similarly the comments have turned out. Maybe there's room for some psycho/sociological study of front page dupe comment sections to be done...
- SultanTravi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yeah, the one under the moon isn't a star because it's in front of the moon. I used photoshop to flip the top semicircle of the moon and it more than covers the little light.
Probably a plane or satellite or something.
@themastersb
No, not a broken pixel. It has a small trail underneath and is more than one pixel. - SultanTravi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9(sorry for double post)
SMeeD, were you trying to say "That's no moon. It's a space station"? - mattverso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The "star" that sits "just below" the Moon most probably isn't a star. If you follow the curvature of the crescent, you'll see it passes behind where this "star" is. It's most likely a satellite.
Well, that's my explanation anyway. It's either that or aliens. - aMammoth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I think thats more of a satellite or plane. The other light will blot out any stars.
- pvliii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Why?
- nbulp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9About viruses... I haven't had a virus on my computer since 1998 or something. Common sense and a free anti-virus app is all one needs.
- BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Actually all you need is common sense and fire fox is all you need, the anti virus app isn't really necessary.
- Daiken, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14@ SlvrEagle23
Although your comment may be "witty", it seems clear you didn't even see the picture. You can't clearly make out Earth's curvature in it. - Zinite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That's no moon...!
- CriX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4... the Earth and the Moon on its horizon. This photo was taken from the International Space Station which is actually more like 400km above earth.
- MyDigitalSin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think I can see my house from here...
"For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do"
go crawl in a hole if you don't know where that's from... - DeskFlyer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think I see the FSM.
- ki85squared, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@effdatitsnick
Stop commenting with ***** retarded *****.
If it weren't for digg, I'd probably never see this photo.
Thanks, digg. =) - rheaume, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Not sure who is digging you down "Oh! he knows lots of stuff! I feel dumb! Digg down!"
let me join the party then, here is the full info page on where that shot was taken, why, and who was with your mom last night:
http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/scripts/sseop/photo.pl?mission=ISS013&roll=E&frame=54329 - actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If you're using a Mac, drag the pic to your desktop.
- ckedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The atmosphere protects us from cosmic rays and radiation. Higher up you go, more of them hit your sensor and cause "hot" pixels (I'm guessing more-so for camera's not specifically designed/intended for use in such an environment). Images that have not had such defects eliminated look like they were taken with the worst camera ever, with thousands and thousands of such hot pixels.
Note that hot pixels can only be noticed on dark parts - a "full on" white pixel in the middle of a cloud - looks like part of the cloud. - manicleek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3...the thermosphere
- HigherLogic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@blackcow: "Actually all you need is common sense and fire fox is all you need, the anti virus app isn't really necessary."
You were correct on the common sense part, everything else is optional. I don't run Firefox or any anti-virus applications—never have—and I can't remember the last time I've had a virus. In fact, I can't remember _ever_ having one. - diggless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3hot pixels in cmos or ccds bloom into the surrounding areas of the sensor. This could be a hot pixel and be more than one pixel in size, but it does seem rather large. I am just saying that being more than one pixel doesn't automatically rule out the sensor defect idea.
- timbo1138, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Seen it before (on Digg, I think...), and in fact it was my wallpaper image until literally last night, but I'm a-diggin' it because it's an amazing image.
- abox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What a beautiful world.
- MikeGunn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For more great images, go to NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD).
Here is an archive of a lot of great photos from NASA: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.html
