- benhocking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37Although the summary says 200 light-years wide (which other news sources are also saying), the actual article states that it is 200 million light-years wide.
- Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -8/+39In other news, dozens of Diggers were found dead today. It is believed they died while attempting to imagine just how big 200 million light years is. No signs of injury were found. Coroners report their brains simply shut down at the difficulty of the task.
- sonick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Biggest thing in the universe? Thats what she said.
- RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22200 million light years wide. Holy **** . My brain leaked out my ears just trying to comprehend the vastness of the universe.
PS: $10 says Conan O'Brien turns this discovery into a Starr Jones joke :) - fradav4, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19uhhh.. What if we, along with that blob are just part of an even bigger blob?
- Anonymously, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19I, for one, welcome our new blob overlord.
- cliffzdude, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Upon further inspection, it appears to be Kevin Rose's Wallet.
- burnstyle, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20and to think... it beat out Ron Jeremy's .... well you know, by only 3 feet

- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Starr Jones is Leno territory. My money is on Kirstie Alley.
- cedrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5this is awesome, but why "blob"? it's not a semi-solid, it's a cluster of stars and galaxies. there are HUGE spaces.
- jrhass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Whoa, they were discussing something similar to this on Nova the other night.
It was the third of the Elegant Universe episodes.
You can watch it online here:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html
Pretty cool stuff! - shardmunch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Whoa...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Soooo let me get this straight.....it's the largest thing in the entire universe, yet it took us this long to find it? At first I asked myself how one determines how big something like this....then I started to wonder how we missed it.
- gotd0t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I read "Newfound Blog is Biggest Thing in the Universe"
- daggett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I believe that lancer151 hit it. It IS his girlfriend's mom... Unfortunately scientists weren't aware of the presence of this woman until now. A 'correction' should be forthcoming.
:-) - 6pintsofbitter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think we should just feed it a rootbeer jelly bean, send it back to blobonia
- OverlordMC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3To comprehend this distance please visit your local Total Perspective Vortex
- whahaa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4duuuuude....
you're like mc escher or something...
hit this... - sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's the PLANET DESTROYER!~@~!#!~
- Smeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its GOD! And hes here for his cheese sandwich!
- Jimzip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We're about to discover that Men In Black was right. We're all inside a marble...
Jimzip :D - Goner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2agreed.. I mean, how is it a 'blob' if it's comprised of bubbles of gas and some galaxies (which are comprised of stars, planets, etc. ?
As for the gas bubbles, the article doesn't say they SURROUND the galaxies, they are just big and in the general area.
This is like scientists suddenly discovering a BLOB of people in India and dubbing them all a single entity... "The India mass of human flesh is the largest single mass of flesh on earth!"
Misleading and sensationalistic... No digg - whahaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2blobs are sexy.
people love sexy space blob articles. - spooky760, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I for one welcome our space amoeba overlords.
- skabyss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well of course we are!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"That's not what your Mom said last night."
ha... I think you need to reread your response and think about who that is actually insulting. Self-insults are in fact funny. - swankboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From iPod killer to "Earth Killer"
- Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"(sorry, couldn't resist)"
Sorry you couldn't resist cracking his joke again for him, in a much more hamfisted manner, just in case the subtlety of his humor was lost on anyone? Sorry, I couldn't resist taking a dump on your post. :P - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The Corvair spacecraft has apparently been taken over, 'conquered' if you will, by a master race of giant space blobs. It's difficult to tell from this vantage point whether they will consume the captive Earthmen or merely enslave them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Maybe its the birth of a new Universe inside our universe, sort of like Conjoined twins only were bigger and they have an alternate dimension too. :)
- Krispy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow, they found god . . .
- loki1983, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just the mebes, they're in ascendacy (game from back in 95~96)
- foxsynergy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is this the "Grand Master Planet Eater" the Spathi were talking about?
- foxsynergy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just a god booger, actually.
- daggett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Excellent series! I've probably watched this series of programs everytime it's been on (along with EVERY other scientific, historical, and forensics show that's been on in the last 20 years). And to think that during high school I actually hated history (but loved science and law).
Now that I have time to think about national and world history instead of what party I was going to, or where my band was playing, it's fascinating! - VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it hunger?
- rhinopig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2to comprehend watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4i6B7HzijSo .
- JEmerson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet giant space ameoba, I'd nearly forgotten about "A Boy and his Blob. Well done.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So has it been confirmed that that "blob" is God?
- whahaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All hail the Giant Space Amoeba!
Glory to the Giant Space Amoeba! - MasterWizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1did anyone else see that totally ***** add where the laptop jumps from one box to the other one!?!??!?! i was reading about the planet eater then this laptop comes tearing through the top banner to sit on the side one, and i was like "*****!"
- foxgnaws, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tiamat is coming!
- starexplorer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3good catch
- CatsAreGods, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's a God fart.
- nethag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Spaces in between mean it's not a blob? But if you zoom in enough an atom has space in between it's elements as well so technically it's either a matter of perspective or blob's do not exist, period. In which case amoebae don't exist, in which case we can't survive, in which case we should have been dead long ago, even worse life should never have started in the first place ergo we're all dead beings who communicate via virtual social networks. Ah whatever, suits me.
Great discovery though! - sjm20k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To correct the description of the article, the "space blob" is actually 200 MILLION light years across, not 200, which would be relatively small in intergalactic measurments.
