NASA’s new image of the stars that shouldn’t exist

blogearth.wordpress.com — Until now it was thought that the majority of stars always form in the centers of galaxies, because that's where most of the star-forming material is. But this new photo shows a huge number newborn stars in the outer red spiral arms of the galaxy - something unexpected, because the spiral arms are quite sparse compared to the galactic center.
