- Pssdoff, on 06/02/2008, -23/+121Too bad Obama will slash NASA's Constellation budget, setting the program back 5-10 years.
- Shendelzare, on 06/02/2008, -20/+99$500 billion will be spent on military occupation each year
$900 billion will be spent on his "Global Poverty Act"
But $17 billion for NASA? Obama thinks its too much... He would rather waste that money on nationalized pre-school. Why should parents have to teach their own children when the government could do it for them?

- swordedge, on 06/02/2008, -2/+66What do you mean already? NASA has been drawing up plans for a man on mars for decades. They simply have never found a plan that is affordable.
- inactive, on 06/03/2008, -8/+54Please, keep politics out of space.
They can't breathe up there. - hazard99, on 06/03/2008, -0/+42Lets ship one of those Brazilian tribe members to record their reactions and make a new MTV show!
- fakekevinrose, on 06/03/2008, -4/+43America was in a ***** back in 1969 when man landed on the moon. hmm we had a lying president and an unpopular war. Thing didn't change much afterall.
If we keep waiting to "sort out" all the problems back on earth, we'll never get off the ground. - j1ggy, on 06/03/2008, -1/+36I would bring a case of Mars bars with me, just cause.
- sgiffy, on 06/03/2008, -3/+32The sad thing is that we could do this today, if only we committed the resources.
- inactive, on 06/03/2008, -2/+29We could use a good ole' fashioned space race to get us there quicker.
- Lixie, on 06/03/2008, -1/+26I'll go. A year of isolation won't be so bad. Just give me a sack of books and a PSP loaded with roms and I'm good.
- superkendall, on 06/03/2008, -1/+24Well that sounds like a good reason to keep politics in space after all.
Or at least politicians...
Without suits. - jasmus, on 06/03/2008, -30/+53I'm not American, but don't you think it's worth concentrating (for now at least) on getting America out of the *****-hole it's in?
- superkendall, on 06/03/2008, -2/+23The NASA plan is kind of slow.
Read about Zubrin's "Mars Direct" program to find out how we could go a lot sooner...
http://www.nss.org/settlement/mars/zubrin-promise. ...
My bet is that private enterprise gets us to Mars before the government. - inactive, on 06/03/2008, -17/+37This guy is a troll. He likes Ron Paul. Ron P. would obliterate NASA into pieces if he would get the chance.
- inactive, on 06/03/2008, -2/+22The point of exploring and learning is...
- ltchimpo, on 06/03/2008, -1/+19dude. ***** it. one way? yeah, one way to immortality.
- inactive, on 06/03/2008, -0/+16I have about 40-50 more years to live...make it happens NASA.
- cbodall, on 06/03/2008, -8/+24yeah man its a real ***** hole here
/sarcasm - superkendall, on 06/03/2008, -3/+19I've traveled the world pretty well at this point, and can say you have little basis for that assertion.
Going to Mars benefits everyone, long term, in the way helping a few people here and there for an hour does not. - SatansSpatula, on 06/03/2008, -0/+15"already drawing up plans..." well, duuuh.
This is like saying that energy companies are already doing the math on solar, wind, and nuclear. I mean, NASA goes into ***** space, that's what they do. - superkendall, on 06/03/2008, -1/+16Think about how much you would learn setting an RC car with a claw loose in a friends apartment, vs. actually being there for an hourself and able to simple open doors or cabinets...
And now expand that to a whole planet.
One geologist with a hammer could do everything all the rovers have done to date, combined, in about an hour. And then if there were several and they were there for months... - inactive, on 06/03/2008, -2/+17You think Xenu will let him come by the inter-galactic mansion?
- inactive, on 06/03/2008, -17/+31Well if John McCain gets elected forget about NASA altogether. We will have multiple wars to fight. Every dollar would go to the middle east so we can defeat the evil doers.
- hollyminkowski, on 06/03/2008, -2/+15They need to call Bob Zubrin, his 'Mars Direct' plan is pure genius.
- DrNemo, on 06/03/2008, -0/+13Wow, 900 billion to fight poverty that's caused by government intervention? That's a lot of money to aggravate a problem.
- Synova, on 06/02/2008, -1/+13The entire constellation program was created as a stepping stone to a manned mars mission.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constellation_Program - superkendall, on 06/03/2008, -1/+13Funny you should mention that since he is the one who directed NASA to come up with a plan.
- edwartica, on 06/03/2008, -0/+11Because they probably wouldn't get the results during there term, thus they won't get the glory.
- variablek, on 06/03/2008, -0/+11I remember reading a similar article in Time magazine back in the 80s as a kid. They postulated NASA would put someone on the surface of Mars by 2004 if I remember correctly. Now, I'm pretty skeptical of anyone landing on Mars in my lifetime.
- atbnet, on 06/03/2008, -0/+11As long as NASA can beam up the latest internet porn I'm game for Mars.
- masamunecyrus, on 06/03/2008, -2/+12We're still benefiting from the technology and developments of the Apollo Program. And not only do we gain technology from exploring space, but overcoming a huge challenge such as going to Mars is spectacular for the country's morale, and happy people equals a happy economy.
Furthermore, there are hundreds of thousands of people working in the science and technology fields now that were inspired to become scientists by NASA and the space program. America, as well as many other first-world countries, are now experiencing an engineering crisis, where in the next 20 to 30 years, there will not be nearly enough engineers to fill the spots that are needed to be filled. Giving children something to be interested in other than showing them the arduous math and tests that are required to be a scientist, would not only inspire American children to become involved in the science, but since space exploration is an international endeavour, it would benefit the world by inspiring children of every race and country.
NASA is a far more important asset than many people realize. - KMartSheriff, on 06/03/2008, -1/+11I hate our leaders. Why can't we have a leader who actually cares about NASA's funding and wants to focus on ourselves and not some holy war that's been raging on for 2,000 years? :(
- fLUx1337, on 06/03/2008, -0/+10What like they did nearly 40yrs ago?
- BigT383, on 06/03/2008, -1/+10I don't think it's BECAUSE you're not an astronaut, I think it's WHY.
- sanman, on 06/03/2008, -1/+10We ought to just drop some big nukes on the icecaps right away, to release the CO2 and water ASAP. Then quickly seed some photosynthetic bacteria in the ocean to start the terraforming process.
Building up efficient and economical space capabilities is going to take some time. Might as well let the terraforming happen on its own in the meantime, while we're slowwwly getting our asses off the ground... and arguing about what to do... - nomadbea, on 06/03/2008, -0/+9No hoverballs? This is going to be hard indeed.
- superkendall, on 06/03/2008, -1/+10I'd go, one way, hour on surface, 50% chance of arrival. As long as I could bring a camera.
- Genetico, on 06/03/2008, -1/+10I bet the mexican nasa can get us to mars sooner and cheaper and there cousin knows a good guy for landings and stuff. No problem mang, no problem.
- Marrach, on 06/03/2008, -4/+12 I will dare to say it-- No women for the first attempt. There's just too much undercurrent bio-psychology and potential for pure trouble on a lone tin can so far from help.
- WriterSD, on 06/02/2008, -6/+14So cool!
- Lousansano, on 06/03/2008, -0/+8They put a man on moon in 1969...
- atbnet, on 06/03/2008, -0/+8Not until there is a profit motive to go to Mars. Private enterprise just got itself into space and just barely.
- jjb123, on 06/03/2008, -1/+8China
- SatansSpatula, on 06/03/2008, -2/+9Meh. At least I wouldn't have to worry about bumping into my ex-girlfriends anymore...
- yohnstoppable, on 06/03/2008, -0/+7No joke. And how do you jerk off in a small area like that? Also, wouldn't it suck to get caught like THAT? Female astronaut walks in, and meanwhile there is a strange foreign liquid floating in the air, while you frantically try to catch it all.
- Haoie, on 06/03/2008, -0/+7Thoughtful idea, but it's not really that simple.
It's not all about 'the money and cost', after all. - richardhenry, on 06/03/2008, -0/+7Yes, let's NUKE IT! It's not like radiation is harmful. Besides, bombs solve everything, right?
- inactive, on 06/03/2008, -2/+9NASA is funded by the Government
The Government is made up of Politicians
Politicians are.... POLITICAL
Therefore NASA is largely political.
Unfortunately, wherever there are billions of dollars to be spent, there will be politics... - gsherwood, on 06/03/2008, -1/+8Who would you show the pictures to?
