- jbeardsl, on 10/23/2008, -0/+14This picture has been my background so many times. The little dot about the 10:00 position just outside of the main rings? That's Earth. Awesome.
- inactive, on 10/23/2008, -1/+13The fact that we, as humans, have evolved to go that far and compose an image like that out of a stack of shots from a space probe makes me realise we're not such a bad bunch some times....
In the whole scheme of things, one minute we're discovering fire, the next we are photographing our giant neighbours... not bad going.
Thanks for the submission. - Selkies, on 10/23/2008, -0/+9and here it is in 1920x1200 (and several other resolutions)

- Selkies, on 10/23/2008, -0/+5imagine where we would have been if we wouldn't spend most of our efforts and money on making war.
- johnabbe, on 10/23/2008, -0/+5Wow.
Nothing like seeing Saturn and its rings lit up from behind, by the Sun. Lighting in photography is a big deal, even/especially at this scale. - nofate2029, on 10/23/2008, -0/+5Looks so awesome, it almost looks fake

- thegoudster, on 10/23/2008, -0/+3There was a great thread on SERboard.com a few years back that started with this pic. Some dude made it his desktop and forgot to hide the folder called Shemale Vids and somebody caught it, then the internet went nuts.
Many of the images are long gone, but it happened on page 2.

- parkermauney, on 10/23/2008, -0/+2Was just about to ask.
- MrFurious2k, on 10/23/2008, -0/+2I know that people often remark about the beauty of Venus. Hell, it was named Venus by the ancients for a reason. Saturn has always captured my imagination with its rings. Whenever I watch a sci-fi show, I always get a little thrill when they cruise by Saturn. Who doesn't love it?
- mykel, on 10/23/2008, -0/+2 I find it really awesome that you can see the Earth in this image between the G ring and the main rings (according to the article).
- SavingSociety, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1Beautiful! I love it!

- UtterStrumpet, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1I wonder if I could tile my bathroom with those mosaics.... Mindblowing image
- bblande, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1How amazingly insignificant and petty are we? A mere pale blue dot.
- inactive, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1I know.
We have a lot to learn... but then... "intelligence" has a price... we get over consumed with the silly things in life.. - inactive, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1I used to use this as my desktop wallpaper like 3 years ago.
It is sweet. - nwoantibody, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1The Black Sun...
- reticulate, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1You're doing it wrong.
- NailerNforce, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1I wonder what software NASA uses to enchant their images.
- HorseloverFat8, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1Wow, I love seeing Earth from space.
"Interior to the G ring and above the brighter main rings is the pale dot of Earth. Cassini views its point of origin from close to a billion miles away in the icy depths of the outer solar system." - starmanjones, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1also... scifi trivia... space 1999.... before the term black hole... black sun...
- didgital, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1The only infinitesimal flaw in this photo is that the view doesn't encompass the entire orbit of the rings. That would be spacetastic.
- JoyceGaines, on 10/27/2008, -0/+0Only one word...Wow!
- jmrsplatt, on 10/24/2008, -0/+0"Interior to the G ring and above the brighter main rings is the pale dot of Earth. "
- Hey!!! I can see my house!!!!! OMG - NiMip, on 10/23/2008, -1/+1I used this picture ages ago in an essay for physics on the advantages of space exploration and usage to mankind. Still pretty snazzy though.
- inactive, on 10/23/2008, -5/+1Its photoshoped, i can see the pixles are messed up
