- doctechnical, on 05/08/2008, -1/+8It couldn't have anything to do with the brutal dictorial military junta government oppressing the citizens to the point of utter poverty has kept them from upgrading their dwellings to something that might have provided some shelter, or at least allowing them some sort of early warning mechanism that would have given them time to take cover? Or the fact that the government is taking it's own sweet time in letting international aid come in? Naaaw. It's the pollution.
What is the color of the sky on your homeworld? - fckk, on 05/08/2008, -0/+7I managed to call my relatives in Yangon last night, and all they could describe was total carnage.

- Duositex, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3Given that it's already been a couple of days there is an aaawwwffuulll lot of water there still. I can't imagine how people can survive this kind of flooding, especially in an oppressed region.

- CraigJ, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Nice that their government still won't allow outside aid in...
- hybridcreation, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2It's amazing to see all of that ocean water so far inland.
Now, if their government would let other countries help... - hybridcreation, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2You can't be serious?
Right? - inactive, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2I wonder if the Burmese people would give a ***** if there was a flood where I live?
- TheGuruStud, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1They're used to it haha
- doctechnical, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1And the first step in curing nature will be for you to recycle yourself back to the ground, immediately, setting an example for all the rest of us to emulate.
Please make sure someone posts a video of the event, ok? I need some fap material for this weekend. - doctechnical, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1Because God hates poor people. What do you think?
If you're not in a *****-poor country being ruled by tyrants you might be able to enjoy the fruits of your own labors and thrive a little... build a stronger house to live in, move where the weather isn't a horror show, buy a radio that can give you warning of impending doom - that sort of thing. - hairydotus, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1It's not that they aren't stupid because they are (we elected Bush twice) it that we have better technologies. the people of Myanmar were living in huts that got leveled by the winds. While there was still a great deal of devestation in New Orleans from Katrina the simple fact that the homes had foundations helped a great deal and the fact that there was a road system for people to follow, etc. It has nothing to do with intelligence it has to do with money
- hairydotus, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1As innapropriate as your comment was do to the amount of devastation and sorrow I would never wish onto another human or civilazation I do agree with you. Humans do have very Parasitic characteristics: Growing at a very rapid rate, leeching of the resources, destroying other lifeforms for our own benefit, etc. I hope that an extreme disaster like this will cause people to demand change. We need to seriously work on curbing the production of greenhouse gases and pollutants. It would not be as difficult as people think. Yes it would take time but we have all the resources we need. The Sun is the ultimate source of energy and we are always improving our ability to harness it's power. The other source of energy is wind. these are the only two true green energy sources in my opinion. Hydro electric effects marine habitat, biodeisel and other biofuels require the production of things like corn which seriously pollutes rivers (look at the deadzones in the gulf of mexico). Wind simply changes the scenery a bit. Maybe there will be some windmills in front of the tree covered hills and forests but hey at least the trees will still be there and not a corn feild. Solar panels can be put anywhere and everywere including on your roof, on your car, on the walls of skyscrapers, etc. We have the technology we just need to release the grip of OPEC nations and Oil companies
- shaka999, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1His Mama called him Burma, so I'm gonna call him Burma!
- heartcoldfusion, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1I don't think it's correct to call it Burma anymore. I think officially it's the Union of Myanmar
- googooly, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1Man why all this ***** have to happened in the poorest countriest
- matschig, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1i am happy i had the opportunity to experience these images. Thank you, and dugg.
- CraigJ, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1I don't know how else to say this. You are a ***** idiot.

- rhartman, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1You too? I've got to lay off the BSG..
- optophobia, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1it was posted on the BBC website the other day
- hairydotus, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1God doesn't exist and if he does he abandoned Earth a long time ago. Humans are now at the full will of Mother Nature
- hairydotus, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1This was an extreme storm and they have no money that's the difference. i don't think natural selection applies to humans anymore we have become to artificial and unnatural. If natural selection still applied to us the kid's in your highschool or college that can't pass a test or make it to a class would have died off before they reached the age of 12
- VeryBoredNow, on 05/08/2008, -3/+3It's just natures immune system cleansing itself of the harmfull bacteria in its system called humans.
- DonnieP84, on 05/09/2008, -0/+0It is truly unfortunate that the ruling junta is so twisted in their beliefs that hundreds of thousands of people will die unnecessarily through disease than by the actual cyclone itself. No food, no clean water, no medicine...... Jesus. They have kept Burma (I refuse to call it by its dictatorship imposed name) in the dark ages for too long.
You would think that something this catastrophic would open the government's eyes to realize what they have been doing to their people. Its quite apparent that the only way that the people of Burma can be free from oppression is by militaristic intervention of the international community. I don't like supporting violence, but all other avenues have failed. Diplomacy doesn't work. Economic pressures don't work. Sanctions don't work. They wont even let us support the disaster recovery for God sake!!
Of all the terror and violence that exist in the world, my deepest prayers go to the people of Burma. - Willy99, on 05/08/2008, -2/+1Wanna learn more about Burma. i found this bizarre politically incorrect docu-drama about Burma, made in 1934.
http://tesla.liketelevision.com/liketelevision/tun ... - inactive, on 05/08/2008, -2/+0Because they're not white and rich.
- inactive, on 05/08/2008, -4/+1It happens to the rich countries as well, it's just that they aren't stupid and prepare themselves.
- inactive, on 05/08/2008, -3/+0People can't prepare for the event of a natural disaster and they die. Isn't this the best example ever of natural selection applied to humanity? We get hurricanes where I live all the time, and only one or two idiots die.
- doctechnical, on 05/08/2008, -7/+4Why does Bush hate Burmese people?
- empirefalling, on 05/08/2008, -17/+2This brutal climatic event and the deaths that have transpired in the Union of Myanmar can only be laid at the feet of the United States and it’s attempt to destroy the country and it’s citizens through climatic terror. The US and it’s unwillingness to curb it‘s unending destruction of the biosphere and manipulation of food markets to satisfy it’s thirst for energy has again brought death to thousands. The United States has been the sole depositor of Green House Gasses for the last 100 years. The effects of the pollution the US has callously dumped into the atmosphere is now manifesting itself into these vicious storms.
