- Bloodwine, on 07/17/2009, -8/+174Oh geez NASA, are you trying to give the conspiracy theory nutjobs more ammunition?
- JasonHilton, on 07/16/2009, -12/+161Someone just got fired...
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -1/+134This is way better than NASA’s previous Real Player media files. Real Player?>????!!!! Seriously.
- XombieRobot, on 07/16/2009, -1/+77Really? Someone didn't think they had any historical significance to not record over it?
- yocouchdigga, on 07/16/2009, -1/+74"Aw, for glaven out loud!"
- AmnesiacJack, on 07/17/2009, -1/+59I have a strange desire to eat paint chips after reading that.
- ptbus0, on 07/17/2009, -7/+62I couldn't it either, I mean who video of one of the most important events that ever place.
It's like "Oops I accidentally Texas." "BUT WE' IN TEXAS =-O!!" - inactive, on 07/17/2009, -1/+53Not surprising. Stanley Kubrick made a habit of destroying all of his unused scenes.
- pyrogyro, on 07/17/2009, -2/+54Did Neil tape it over with porn again??
- AmyVernon, on 07/16/2009, -2/+54Probably didn't want to miss an episode of Charles in Charge. Scott Baio's pretty hot, you know.
- SoCalDissident, on 07/16/2009, -2/+43And yet, to the right, there's the story http://digg.com/space/NASA_finds_lost_tapes_of_fir ...
(tho there are a few claims in there that they are not indeed found...)
So, which is it? Who do I believe? Fox News or a UK news source reporting breaking news about NASA....? - Bloodwine, on 07/17/2009, -1/+36I hope one day another nation makes it to the moon, sees all our ***** there, takes photos, and puts it all to rest.
However, there are probably people that would still think it was still an elaborate hoax and the other nation was paid off to go along with it. - thathappycat, on 07/17/2009, -1/+27CTRL+Z! CTRL+Z! CTRL+Z! CTRL+Z! CTRL+Z! CTRL+Z! CTRL+Z! CTRL+Z! CTRL+Z!

- andrewh7, on 07/17/2009, -1/+24They were supposedly erased decades ago. So, I doubt someone "just got fired." Good job commenting on the title without actually reading the article.
- PuddMaster, on 07/17/2009, -0/+23anytime i read anything about man going to the moon i immediately think of the following video (and it never gets old):

Google gets data from commercial satellites orbiting THE EARTH and from surveying planes that fly all over the world.
There are no commercial satellites orbiting THE MOON, which is where the Apollo landing sites are. So NASA currently has the best imaging system available orbiting THE MOON which is the LRO spacecraft.
http://lro.gsfc.nasa.gov/
And while the commercial satellites around the Earth are dedicated to imaging, the LRO spacecraft is a multi-mission spacecraft that carries a lot of scientific equipment, all of which takes up space. Therefore, the camera can't be very large and consequently it can't take as high of resolution images as the dedicated imaging satellites that orbit the Earth.
Any other dumb questions you want to ask? - diggB, on 07/17/2009, -3/+24If there was ever a more appropriate time for an EPIC FAIL comment, this is the time.
- S1ngular1ty1, on 07/17/2009, -1/+21@MCCULLAH
We are about to in like 1 week or less. The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) is orbiting the moon right now. It has a camera capable of 1.5 meter resolution or so. It will be able to see the landing module and possibly the lunar rover. They just finished warming it up and turning on all its sensors. When they pass the Apollo 11 site they said they will take high resolution pictures of it.
http://lro.gsfc.nasa.gov/
Until the LRO, there were no satellites or telescopes capable of seeing any of the Apollo landing gear on the moon. It is a lot harder than you think to see that much detail, that far away. - heytomkat, on 07/17/2009, -4/+23My dad works for Nasa. Bring it on he says, he will debate all conspiracy theories now.
- ToadLeg, on 07/17/2009, -0/+18HEY SCREW YOU IF IT WASNT FOR THE ALIENS THEY WOULD STIL HAVE THE TAPES OF THE SOUNDSTAGE IN NEVADA THAT THEY STOLE THE FORMULA FOR TURNING WATER IN TOO FREE ENERGY THE GOVERNMENT ARE BEEN CONTROLED FOR YEARS THAT WHEN WHO KNOWS WHY PINEAPPLE WHO DO YOU THINK THEY CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- BREZZZ, on 07/17/2009, -2/+20Ask him what kind of cheese the moon is made of.
- directedition, on 07/17/2009, -1/+17Which they had multiple magnetic and kinescope copies of... Nothing was lost here except the sentiment attached to having the 'original' tape.
- karipatila, on 07/17/2009, -2/+18I'm 12 years old and what is this?
- benderillo, on 07/17/2009, -0/+16i think nasa a pretty cool guy. eh deletes tapes, and doesn't afraid of anything
- Meocross, on 07/17/2009, -0/+15Another 18 years of conspiracy dodgeball begins.
- Floggeriffic, on 07/17/2009, -2/+17Did you make a copy? Cuz if you made a copy we could watch the copy.
- megaton, on 07/17/2009, -0/+15So NASA fakes lunar landings *and* digg links...
- americanoboy, on 07/17/2009, -5/+20i've been to the sun, but i accidently erased all videos of proof.
- MonkeyFit, on 07/17/2009, -2/+16FKnight, while it was indeed a very stupid question, you obviously haven't been to yahoo answers if you think his was the dumbest.
- S1ngular1ty1, on 07/17/2009, -0/+14Here are the video links in 720p directly from NASA's website.
http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/hd/apollo11.html - Mujokan, on 07/17/2009, -0/+14Bang, zoom, straight to the moon!
- S1ngular1ty1, on 07/17/2009, -0/+14POW, right in the kisser!
- directedition, on 07/17/2009, -0/+14How convenient.... that they have 720p versions on their website: http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/hd/apollo11.html
And in case you're wondering, it's because we did go.

Or are they just part of the conspiracy? You have to realize that it comes to the point where it just saves time to ask who ISN'T in on it. - Arsenard, on 07/17/2009, -5/+18No they didn't, they threw them away and the finder had them "restored" by rebuilding the obsolete tape drives so the tapes could be read!
If you are going to write a story, the very least that you could do is to get it right! - joculator, on 07/17/2009, -4/+17Ask him who the set designer was for Apollo 11.
- richmomz, on 07/17/2009, -1/+13And that's why you don't ***** with Buzz Aldrin!
- jumpyg1258, on 07/17/2009, -0/+12Knowing our government, not only did this person not get fired, they probably got a promotion.
- ericcire, on 07/17/2009, -0/+11There is nothing too important for some ***** to forget to back it up. PERIOD.
- S1ngular1ty1, on 07/17/2009, -1/+12@Lintrix
The LRO is the best imaging system orbiting the Moon troll. The best imaging system built by man so far is a gigantic dual mirror binocular telescope located in Arizona and it still can't see the landing sites on the Moon. Neither can the Hubble telescope. So the satellites orbiting the Earth are not the best at anything. They may be better than the LRO but they AREN'T ORBITING THE MOON so they are as useless as you are at photographing the Apollo landing sites.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubble_telescope - MCCULLAH, on 07/17/2009, -0/+11thats amazing, i never heard about that. You could tell he hit a nerve by calling him a coward right to his face. After watching that video i am certain that the moon landing was real. Before i was only mostly certain (mythbusters never lies).
- b0bbyw1se, on 07/17/2009, -0/+11When stuff is erased off of hard drives, the drive does not waist time and actually erase the data, it just says that it is gone. The information is still there, just not reported and will eventually be written over. When a tape gets erased, that info is gone.
- JohnFlux, on 07/17/2009, -0/+10All of them? Sounds like your dad is going to mass-debate
- javy925, on 07/17/2009, -3/+13i can hear the conspiracy theorists coming out of from the woodwork
- DemDude, on 07/17/2009, -1/+11Out of a cannon. Into the sun.
/lovefuturama - klashar, on 07/17/2009, -0/+10That punch was a brilliant response, who can blame him. Don't call an astronaut, one of the country's finest a coward.
- zjbird, on 07/17/2009, -2/+10Lol I don't think people get that ur joking
