- inactive, on 04/28/2009, -1/+17Suprisingly green.
- ayeroxor, on 04/28/2009, -4/+20You admit it taught you something; it showed you that things impressive from one perspective are sometimes the opposite from another.
You admit it taught you something, and then you buried it?
Pathetic. - abstracthuman, on 04/28/2009, -0/+16I think the best part of the picture is the contrast between (what I'm assuming are) the northern and southern sides of Everest.
- bradhunt5, on 04/28/2009, -0/+15Also see http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=mount+ever ...
- ayeroxor, on 04/28/2009, -11/+26Yeah you can "like see this" from many sources. Great question. Thanks for asking. Check plus.
- ophello, on 04/28/2009, -0/+14OK...here's an imageshack version:

- OfficeSpacing, on 04/28/2009, -2/+15Yeah actually a pretty boring picture.
- loaded123, on 04/28/2009, -0/+11Yeah, hard to even notice it from space with all the mountainous area around it.
- kerrylkeane7, on 04/28/2009, -0/+11Try Google Earth. It is much more impressive there.
- Oea420, on 04/28/2009, -5/+15Sweet, I've been on a kind of Mt Everest kick lately..
I think in the last week I have learned more about mountaineering in general than I ever thought I would in my life....
And for some reason I am genuinely interested in climbing now... so much so that I've looked up local mountaineering spots, and have this crazy drive to, someday, scale everest...
the most interesting part? The Sherpas.
These natives, they free-climb the mountain lugging huge expeditions equipment from camp to camp (Their oxygen, all their supplies..) they fix the ropes, put ladders down in the Khumbu Icefall, make sure the ropes/ladders on all the steps are secure..
These guys are the REAL heroes, the REAL amazing people.... it's ***** incredible when you see two burly ass mountain climbers absolutely struggling past camp 3 (this is with no oz) while the sherpas are practically jogging past them to the summit.
They pretty much do all the 'hard' work, although anything on that mountain can be considered hard. It's an absolutely fascinating culture based pretty much entirely on tourism now. The Sherpas are some of the richest people in Nepal, and they are still paid a pittance of what huge expeditions manage to spend for a trek up the hill...
Think i'm nuts? Read up and watch some everest stuff, you'll notice in almost every documentary/expedition sherpas are the work horse of the group. The true heroes. - fxu1989, on 04/28/2009, -0/+10imagevenue

- FortyCaliber, on 04/28/2009, -0/+7I was talking to someone the other day about how we reward and give news time to these western and european richies who gear up and climb tot he top (and some that don't make it), meanwhile, the sherpas probably make the trip 2 or more times a year.
- harazek, on 04/28/2009, -0/+6You rolled on the floor laughing in the middle of your class? :/
