Earth discovery suggests water on planet 1m years ago. - singhisking101, on 03/02/2009, -3/+14they might discover some fossils there but this is really a breakthrough discovrey
- Innisskillin, on 03/03/2009, -1/+11Anotherer suggestive Mars discovery. How about some decisive factual evidence? I'm sick of the same old "BREAKING: New soil discoloration/rock formation/random natural occurence could mean that there has been water/life/Starbucks on Mars."
- Dan6963, on 03/03/2009, -0/+9Even better if they found some Spice. Imagine what that would do for our economy!
- Ravenlark, on 03/03/2009, -0/+9Didn't we already know all of this, besides the age?
- threemagic, on 03/03/2009, -0/+8they have.. less than a million years ago as well.
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -0/+8Skepticism about water and life on Mars, I can understand. But Starbucks? Now you're just being silly.
- kvgirard, on 03/03/2009, -0/+7guess we're a bit late
- ungus, on 03/03/2009, -0/+6WE GET IT.
Water on mars. Recently.
ENOUGH WITH THE BREAKING STORIES. - Iceman4, on 03/03/2009, -0/+5Correction: Graboids.

- blindhammer, on 03/03/2009, -0/+5Perhaps Mars was a vast water world, minus the Kevin Costner.
- csbellina, on 03/03/2009, -0/+5I swear to god astronomers discover water on mars at least once a month.
- Skyplatoon, on 03/03/2009, -0/+4Been done sir.
- Driedmang0, on 03/03/2009, -1/+5We all came from Mars but had to leave it because it was drying up. We then went to a nearby planet and called it Earth. Cool plotline for a movie eh?
- elfprince13, on 03/03/2009, -1/+5someone been watching too much Robin Hood?
- thinkb4utype, on 03/03/2009, -0/+4No beach? WTF
NASA should aim for St. Thomas instead. It has a great beach. - immatellyouwhat, on 03/03/2009, -0/+4Mars was God's beta planet.
- killahwhale, on 03/03/2009, -0/+4Everything and everyone is from mars!

- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -0/+3Great movie! Great ending too.
- Rapax, on 03/03/2009, -0/+3They did...nothing there. More recent images show it in much higher resolution and it doesn't look much like a face. In the original (old) image, the 'eye' was actually a bunch of dead pixels.
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -5/+7I found Waldo.
- willdelaney, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2Running water?
Like pipes?
sick - dollar0dot02, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2There was 1 meter of watter years ago?
- zulfy26, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2***** did you see the robot albert einstein on the right column?
- RobotBuddha, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2I see what you're saying. But the correct response is to find out 'why' scientists came to the conclusion they did, and critique that. Not make assumptions based on what's presented by the article. Science reporters are legendary for dumbing down science stories to the point where they're scientifically invalid.
- RobotBuddha, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2Done to death. "OMG, it makes sense why the captain's named Adam now!!!"
- Andyz, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2A million years ago.. damn its just like yesterday...
- jhails, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2I guess we should have gotten our caveman asses rolling out a mars space program sooner.
- NiftyG, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2I'm curious to know why Mars dried up.
Planetary menopause, perhaps? - jamesmcginnis, on 03/03/2009, -1/+3Perhaps it's where us humans used to live before we destroyed it with global warming. Then we evacuated the planet and moved to Earth killing off the current inhabitants.
Just an idea - lornali, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2Stories like this make me feel excited
- stack3r, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2Wow, thanks for that... now what?
- Snaffler, on 03/03/2009, -1/+3The Lord has told us in his Holy and unchanging, inerrant word that a great flood created all geology on earth. So it should come as no surprise that great antidiluvian floodwaters are also found on our nearest solar neighbor and no surprise that this happened only 6,000 years ago. "Science" undoubtedly find that floods are responsible for all geology on other planets as well, including Jupiter and Saturn.
- subliminalurge, on 03/05/2009, -0/+1There's a difference between *liquid* water and ice.....
The presence of liquid water implies a VASTLY different climate than is currently the case. - mwalker52, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1I don't know, that water erosion looks pretty fresh to me. 5000 years at most. There is no cratering in the lower elevation levels where the oceans sat, also suggesting that Mars lost its water only recently.
- DeskFlyer, on 03/03/2009, -1/+2Where is the breaking story?
- immatellyouwhat, on 03/03/2009, -1/+2Man breaks mirror, blames story.
- NiftyG, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1Animals trekking about... on Mars... yup.
They calculate 1.25 million years based upon how many craters there are over the features. The amount of cratering is fairly constant, so more craters means more years. The amount of erosion on the craters can also be used. - Noodleson, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1all the water is still there, its just frozen
- PowderedToasty, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1"I'm just thinking here"
"I don't think you are" - immatellyouwhat, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1...in the pants.
- mars2012, on 03/10/2009, -0/+0the lander found evidence of ice, which could have been emplaced as snowfall (and burial) or vapor diffusion. this paper finds evidence for FLOWING, liquid water. That's the big difference and what makes it news. Cool stuff!
- F34RInc, on 03/03/2009, -2/+2Hahaha..... hey that's not cool :-(
- dooleyserver, on 03/04/2009, -0/+0Did not a lander find water on Mars just a couple of months ago? Would not that make these guys nearly 1 Million years off? Oh, nope. Still translates into 'Hey, there is water out there.' Hey, maybe I can apply for part of the stimulis bill to tell people I discovered water on Mars too!
- PowderedToasty, on 03/04/2009, -0/+0Let us dream!
