- aldenhg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+40Sweet Jesus that last shot was awesome. Can you imagine looking up and seeing a huge meteor split practically right above you? I'd probably poo myself.
- Tobark, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31Thats no meteor! Thats a space station (toilet).
- tapedelay, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31What if that meteor was the beginning of a blinding shower that covered the whole world and caused everyone who witnessed it to lose their sight and suddenly these plant creatures showed up that could uproot themselves and be mobile that had deadly poison stingers who preyed on the blind and the world's rebuilding was left up to small bands of people that retained their sight?
- thorbergdt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23It was probably the space junk the astronauts threw off the station the other day!
- kkeith02, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20That almost looked like a movie trailer - I bet it's for monstrous
- 3leggedHorse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14http://youtube.com/watch?v=8mbA606ZRWI check out the date on youtube and that is in Mexico.
- antifreze, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14dugg - for reference to a show that got canceled before it's time.
- tossayo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15team rocket's blasting off again!
- hokie47, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Yeah all their beer cans
- domomike, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10It's not called Monstrous! The poster that said "Monstrous" on it had many different versions that said different things as the title.
The movie is called Cloverfield... Or Slusho... Or Untitled JJ Abrahs Project... Or 1-18-08.

Funny how this looks "almost" like the same meteor that appeared in Mexico about a year ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mbA606ZRWI - ilkeryoldas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Funny how this looks "almost" like the same meteor that appeared in Mexico about a year ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mbA606ZRWI
- cusoman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Excuse me while I claw my eyes out.
- krakhed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I love the fact that you get several different videos of the meteor usually you only get one.
- mazhurg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5From spaceweather.com: "SUPER-BOLIDE: On Wednesday, July 25th at approximately 10:00 UT, "a major daylight fireball tore across the skies of Slovenia, Croatia and Italy," reports veteran meteor observer Jure Atanackov of Maribor, Slovenia. "It produced two bright flashes that reached an estimated magnitude of -20 and also loud sonic booms." Magnitude -20? In plain language, the meteor was 600 times brighter than a full Moon. Eyewitnesses, please report your sightings to Jure Atanackov or colleague Javor Kac who are gathering data to learn more about this extraordinary meteor and to estimate possible landing sites."
- benitojuarez, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7We're sorry, you seem to be on the wrong interweb site. Please check your address bar and attempt your witty comment again.
- billessig, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8OMFG... It's Croatian.
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5And that's not even a meteor; it's a space shuttle re-entry. Seriously. This has been on Digg's front page THREE TIMES. Each time it was wrongly claimed to be a meteor.
I should add that the news station is probably just reusing footage of the re-entry over Mexico for their story. They've obviously CG'd the other clips, so... it wouldn't surprise me. - petoria, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Poor Georgia :(
- zadadka, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4wrong.
- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah, viral marketing for the transformers release there.
- HarveyK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Here is a rough translation from Croatian:

Meteor fell near Samobor?
Eyewitnesses reporting seeing fires in the sky. Followed by loud explosion, and tremors on the ground. Event happened in around ten seconds.
Explosion could be heard in Samobor and parts of Zagreb (capitol of Croatia), and ground tremors could be felt even in Karlovac (45km from Zagreb).
There was no official statement it was a meteor.
Media reports that eyewitnesses saw object like "fireball" in the skies which fell to the ground.
Entrance of meteor or some other object into Earth's atmosphere was confirmed for local newspaper by Korado Korlevic, director of planetarium in Visnjan.
"Something fell! It would be interesting to find that spot and find out what it was. By eyewitness reports who also heard 'sound effect' it is possible that object fell somewhere around Zagreb" says Korlevic.
Allegedly a fireball has been spotted by firemen in Sibenik (on croatian coast), people from Samobor (west of Zagreb), Dugo Selo (east of Zagreb) and Jastrebarsko (SW of Zagreb).

From the video: The video in news report is not of an actual event. It was just as example of eyewitness reports. Officials are hoping that maybe some of the traffic or surveillance cameras caught the event, but there is no official statement about it ever since.
So to sum things up, something happened, but there was no real proof and no official statements. Hope this helps. Enjoy digging. - Cozmcphish, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Man, I can't wait till "Cloverfield" comes out
- irgeek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Amazing video. Not fake. Big bolides like this more common than u may think. I have seen a few, but nothing like this! This site has some good bolide pix/videos: http://fireball.meteorite.free.fr/index_en.html including the one back in 1992 that ended up smashing some lady's car. Seems like I recall hearing that she made a fortune selling the car to researchers.
- sabach, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Geez, he's talking about "Day of the Triffids"
- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3FTA: Eksplozija se čula u Samoboru i dijelu Zagreba, a podrhtavanje tla osjetilo se čak u Karlovcu.
Couldn't have said it better myself. - shm0edawg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Arhivska fotografija" means stock photo. They never claimed it was that meteor. The picture is actually from the meteor in Mexico, but the video footage is from Croatia.
- extratired, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2one dumb comment per story isn't enough for you?
- swordphish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2lol ...u guys with ur hoax nonsense.... What are you guys some sort of meteor experts? What qualifies you to say that this is fake, other than the fact that you've watched over 100k videos on YouTube? Take a seat and relax. Nothing about this looks fake.
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Its four days old. Any link for the space shuttle story?
- czar13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It means, " The explosion was heard in Samobor and parts of Zagreb, and the meteor was visible as far as karlovac
- rboyce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I LOLed.
- chimaera2005, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2or someone referencing a movie referencing a tv show that got canceled before it's time.
- Lister169, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"I wonder how much they'd pay for it up at the college."
- mhanley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Indeed, it does... even similar how it was photographed, as it passed out of view behind a building.
- Aaronontheweb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Man if that's true, props to him...
- ramong, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Yikes, that's some scary "war of the worlds" stuff!
- GeeKman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well, every one here on digg would be fine, as we tend to stay inside any ways.
- therippa, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3svet isprdak!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Croatia = Hrvatskom
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1ha ha...you keep getting dugg down. sucks to be you
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I thought that meant "Live from New York...It's Saturday Night!"
- pyry, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Also note the part where they say this picture is not real.
- Impetus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You can tell it's not in America because everyone isn't following the "Duck and Cover" policy
- jebivuk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They said it was 80KM up and landed someplace in a forrest.
For you tin foils out there, the report said it was not tracked by radar. But they don't qualify if they meant any kind of radar or those operated by the astronomical observatories.
This would have been amazing at night, as much of the rural parts of Croatia have very minor light pollution. On a clear night I could track the ISS if it passed overhead. - sneeka2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It doesn't only look similar, it's the same freaking video! The same freaking video that's been on the intertubes for at least a year. Talk about some news agency picking up some FREAKING OLD INTERNET VIDEO AND INVENTING A STORY FOR IT.
Buried as inaccurate. - ruslanr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2This actually happened in Mexico last year.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=8mbA606ZRWI - ramallama, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well based on the 'Ads by Google' on this page, I'm gonna take a wild guess the .hr is Croatia
- pyry, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Probably because it isn't real. www.spaceweather.com says the photos are mockups made by artists, instead everyone got excited and thought they were real.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They don't have any video of Wednesday's bolide, as demonstrated by the fact that they replay video of several other bolide events, including the Mexican one from 2006 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=8mbA606ZRWI). It's not fake, it's just a TV station's way of coping with a no-video event.
