- Brak710101, on 09/16/2009, -0/+4If a comet came in at the perfect trajectory, could it be stuck as a satellite forever? Article didn't really mention that.
Would be interesting to have a second (albeit, smaller) moon show up one day. - MacBandit, on 09/16/2009, -0/+4Good weed tonight?
- Pinkertinkle, on 09/16/2009, -0/+2Jupiter pulled a Garrido
- mattE7, on 09/16/2009, -0/+2Still better than being trapped in Uranus.
- Awwzm, on 09/16/2009, -0/+2All your comet are belong to us.
- inactive, on 09/16/2009, -2/+3That'd probably throw off our gravity and our waters would turn weird.
- AlienMushroom, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1Poor comet. RIP
- MacBandit, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1Yes and a lot of it's moons are probably just that.
- jaytea90, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1Well you kind of answered you're own question because you've mentioned "the perfect trajectory". So your question should be: does the perfect trajectory exist?
Which is theoretically yes. By analysing newtonian forces, the gravitational pull of the planet would firstly have to capture the comet then the rotation of the planet around the sun would keep the comet in orbit.
Highly improbable, but our universe is so mysterious and perfect that it just might. - rompom7, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1in before "it's a trap"
- blynder, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1It's crazy how delicate and balanced albeit massive space is. Mind blowing!
- AlienMushroom, on 09/16/2009, -0/+1That is, rest in pieces.
- RMM01, on 09/16/2009, -2/+1That's no moon..
any longer. - JHughes1882, on 09/16/2009, -4/+0Wow, Jupiter sure does like them comets, it seems like only yesterday there was another article on the front page about the exact same thing.
