Interplanetary internet gets permanent home in space

newscientist.com — A new protocol which could one day handle deep-space communications is now being tested aboard the International Space Station. The the newly installed system aboard the ISS could one day allow data to flow between Earth, spacecraft, and astronauts automatically, creating what is being dubbed the "interplanetary internet".

    Mars is 10-40min away, double that to get the ping.

    With that said, the ISS is only 360.9km up, so its only going to add 2.4ms.
