- sajnikanth, on 12/16/2007, -5/+31Proud to be Indian
- stutimandal, on 12/16/2007, -0/+24ISRO rocks. I think only it is only second to NASA. ISRO has been doing really good stuff while being a part of Socialist India. And now it belongs to Capitalist India, so no wonder they are trying harder and more expensive projects.
- digudown, on 12/17/2007, -6/+30Hi digg its another story about India, please do not bother commenting if you want to say any of the following:-
1. India should feed poor children instead of investing in space program.
2. Any 'outsource to India' joke.
3. Any paranoia that India/China are becoming a threat to US.
Reason I am asking this is that all stories about India are filled with comment like these. Educated people have replied to these time and again. Its very boring to hear the same arguments again. I would encourage all of you to keep the comments related to the story.
Thanks. - akkibaba, on 12/16/2007, -3/+26Money spent on space programs usually is an excellent investment, by promoting indigenous research in diverse fields like mechanical engineering, chemistry, materials science, supercomputing etc. This is not frivolous spending.
- johnnybravo007, on 12/16/2007, -3/+21hate to admit India is progressing eh ?
- antonymarceles, on 12/16/2007, -1/+18hey... and if u didnt know... all that india does in the space field is done with 1/100th the budget that NASA uses... so 3 cheers to them
- sum4me, on 12/16/2007, -4/+20oh shut up. advances in science and technology are equally important to society and economy
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -2/+18Americans suffer the epidemic of AIDS and poverty too, yet we've manage to walk a man on the moon, send orbital satellite to Mars. I don't see you criticizing Americans for doing the same thing Indians want to do now.....Sounds like your being bias against Indians.
- KaJuN4, on 12/17/2007, -0/+16I know that India has been developing quite rapidly but this news caught me completely by surprise. Way to go India!
- stutimandal, on 12/16/2007, -6/+20For people like SynthSrkL, who are asking to reduce poverty and AIDS.
1) Poverty is 1/4th due to govt. and 3/4th due to the low acumen or work culture of the individuals concerned.
2) Satellites and Missions improve commercial services like GPS assistance, weather prediction, Map services, Defense services etc. which in return give you employment.
3) It is not the job of Govt. to give assistance to lazy bones who don't want to work and remain poor. - blitzer, on 12/16/2007, -10/+23Does this mean we can now outsource to the moon?
- sanman, on 12/16/2007, -1/+13The more players in the Space Race, the better. Competition will accelerate the pace of advancements, and humanity will be the overall victor.
- sajnikanth, on 12/16/2007, -0/+12From your comment I think you're a loser. Your name simply confirms it for me.
- MortalCoiled, on 12/16/2007, -7/+18So the next time I call Dell's tech support I'll be re-routed to the moon? Sweet.
- newstart, on 12/17/2007, -0/+10yes India going their would put an end to the controversy.
American People: "Do u see a flag over there and footmarks?"
Indian Astronaut: "$1Billion says I do"
American Government: "Give us your bank account number " - newstart, on 12/16/2007, -1/+10Here is the ISRO website http://www.isro.org/
- darthpaul88, on 12/17/2007, -1/+10hopefully they can tell us if that flag is actually up there
- inactive, on 12/16/2007, -0/+9i wonder how japan and germany are doing
- mypreciousss, on 12/16/2007, -0/+9Um, are you like one of those kids that likes to repeat whatever people say?
- digudown, on 12/17/2007, -2/+10Dear anidal, please come out of your dream. Not only the figure of 400-500 million below poverty line is wrong, you statement reflects blatant bias against India. If you think the way for a government to bail people out of poverty is by stop spending on science and military then you are the greatest moron on digg. Thank you.
- madhugopinatha, on 12/16/2007, -1/+9Like it or not, India will be a player in the global economy and space arena. There are not many countries that can launch a payload to space -- it is a very lucrative industry dominated by US & France. A small dent in it could mean good for India, it's science-research and eventually it's poor.
All this despite the third world status and the poverty. Science and technology has always been encouraged in the subcontinent. US is the defacto leader ; but learn to appreciate what's good and realize it will not always be the US.. - dubbleenerd, on 12/16/2007, -1/+9Advancement in one field does not mean that the country is not focusing on other issues at all. It's not like the whole government has to deal with only one project at a time.
- duniyadnd, on 12/16/2007, -0/+8Meh, it depends on what you mean by "legwork". If you want to go all the way back, it's been a collaboration by most of the world.
http://www.crystalinks.com/indiastronomy.html - digudown, on 12/17/2007, -1/+8You are not very bright? are you? If antennae are used to track a mission to moon that does not mean they cannot receive signals from deep space. This ability comes from the size of the antenna and the electronics used. The type of antennae installed in India are capable of deep space tracking.
- johnnybravo007, on 12/16/2007, -2/+9wtf...
- Genjeta, on 12/17/2007, -0/+7Its really quite stupid how people still have this third world underdeveloped view of the country....people still think its a giant jungle filled w/ millions of people.
- mypreciousss, on 12/16/2007, -2/+9Kinda offtopic, but Indian government websites really do need a lot of work.. I mean for all the IT talent in the country, I'm sure they can invest a little in well-designed government websites..
Example: http://pib.nic.in/ - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -4/+10bitches dont know ***** about my lunar outpost
- Ph03nikX, on 12/16/2007, -4/+10yeah .. keep speculating if it would be cow or curry while they work hard to actually send a man to moon instead of spending billions on faking moon landings and cover ups.
- digudown, on 12/17/2007, -0/+6'em-waves don't work as a control mechanism at space distances' where did you dream of that? What do you think NASA and others use?
- blacklabelrum, on 12/17/2007, -0/+6I second that!
- mygans, on 12/17/2007, -0/+5nice....dugg.
- digudown, on 12/17/2007, -0/+5What? you form you opinion by reading comments on digg!! Trust me I never thought my words will be so powerful that they will start affecting your opinion. You can have any opinion you want but I would appreciate if you try to write some constructive/relevant comments rather than typical 'poor Indians should do no science crap'. In short either add something positive to the discussion or shut the ***** up!
- kd1s, on 12/17/2007, -1/+5So China and India will now have a space presence. Took them long enough but this is the true mark of societies on the rise, how much of your GDP can you blow by sending things to the moon and beyond.
Don't misunderstand me, I love the data we're getting back from some of our own probes that essentially says that yes, there was life on Mars at one time. - cuoops, on 12/16/2007, -6/+10pic- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/cuoops/re.j ...
- Kailash.Nadh, on 12/17/2007, -0/+4Great insight. And you are ?
- mercurysquad, on 12/17/2007, -0/+4So you suggest what, distribute the money among the nation's poor on a first-come-first-served basis?
- madhugopinatha, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3Have to agree 100%. Many of Indian governmental websites are in a bad state, if they do exist. They definitely need updating/attention. Not to justify what's bad, but it is one of the banes of our multi-state, multi-cultural, multi-party democracy -- lots of red tape. It is the same in any developmental progress, China (with who India is constantly compared) seems to get things done (as they do not contend with the same), while in India, despite the good intentions and the efforts, things languishes for want of approvals and clearances. The world's largest democracy(in terms of population) is like an elephant with two left feet, and we are toying a quick step..
- mypreciousss, on 12/16/2007, -2/+5This thing supposedly has amazing range!
- hplasm, on 12/17/2007, -0/+3Unlike the US meagre de(off)fence budget and social utopia?
- blacklabelrum, on 12/17/2007, -1/+4sweet!!! indian rulzz
- newstart, on 12/17/2007, -1/+4I found this video on youtube about what really is going on in India
Its a must see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXUjEG-1iLU - Zique, on 12/17/2007, -0/+3Also, someone tell USA the whole space thing was done and dead way before they got there. What's the next "original" thing? Cars? Fridges? Computers? C'mon USA, everyone expect more from a spin-off of Europe!
- Kailash.Nadh, on 12/17/2007, -0/+3Truth.
- dev3, on 12/17/2007, -0/+3Thank you!
at last I see some sensible comment on a story about India. - sajnikanth, on 12/17/2007, -1/+3Why do you care what I'm proud of? If you are Indian, what the heck are YOU doing to make things better?
- inactive, on 12/17/2007, -0/+2Not to forget that one of the main projects of ISRO was the Edusat which main goal is to help the education sector.
http://www.isro.gov.in/Edusat/Page2.htm
Its not as frivolous as the program som other nations run. - Dysarthria, on 12/17/2007, -0/+2LOL!!! Digging you up! Cow, heh heh.
- sajnikanth, on 12/17/2007, -0/+2Still not answered my question - Why do YOU care? For all I know, you could be proud of your fat ass but hey, I don't have a problem.
