- albyliontk, on 10/21/2008, -1/+36This is a great news I am glad that other countries such as India or China are joining pioneers of the Space.
- TheMadPoet, on 10/21/2008, -1/+24according to the Indians - the mathematical concept 0 is an early discovery of theirs - designated by the Sanskrit word 'śūnya' designating a void or emptiness - and the symbols for numerical values (and corresponding words) in modern use are rather recognizable in their Sanskrit counterparts, cf.: http://veda.wikidot.com/sanskrit-numbers.
So indeed, the Indians found out how to divide by 0 when your ancestors were still humping neanderthals. - n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 10/21/2008, -5/+27They're gonna start outsourcing our astronauts...
- EvilKaz, on 10/21/2008, -2/+24Not bad for a country thats been independant for only 60 or so years!
- inactive, on 10/21/2008, -2/+17Well they kinda invented zero.
- AmyVernon, on 10/21/2008, -4/+16The more nations joining the space race, the better off we are, unless we just extend all Earth-bound conflicts to outer space. In which case, we're just doomed.
- foolfromhell, on 10/22/2008, -2/+13... Are you serious? The arabs bring the invention to the western world so they get the credit? Why not give it to the people who invented teh damn thing? That's like giving credit to the airplane to the Wright Brother's marketing agent or whatever...
- nytel, on 10/22/2008, -1/+11Good for them!
- akshay626, on 10/22/2008, -0/+9A Space Program would create a new industry in India, increasing the number of new jobs and increase tax revenue. That would be good for the poor people. In the long run, what good would come out of handing out billions of dollars to poor people?
- sanman, on 10/22/2008, -1/+9Well, India has been just getting by for over a half-century while pursuing a socialist welfare state. Now that they're switching to free market economics, their growth has started picking up rapidly, as they demonstrate natural entrepreneurialism. This latest mission is then showcasing Indian technical skills, to help the world look past just the image of poverty and see their ability as well. Besides, Indian satellites already provide lots of data for ordinary farmers on the ground, and the Indian Space Research Organization is able to sell satellite launch services to make money as well.

- ashwinmudigonda, on 10/22/2008, -2/+9Looks like the space race has moved Eastwards. Japan, China and India want a dude on the moon! Only good can come out of this!
- CrushThemTorg, on 10/22/2008, -1/+8Ah damnit! Are we gonna lose at doing stuff in space, too?
- SmilinJoe, on 10/22/2008, -1/+8That's what we need - other nations to plan moon trips so AMERICA CAN GET OFF IT'S ASS! It's been - what FORTY YEARS?!?
- ztbq48, on 10/21/2008, -2/+9that's what she said.
- warsongs7, on 10/22/2008, -1/+7And when that happens call centers in Australia and America may once again become economically viable.
- vptel, on 10/21/2008, -2/+8Simpsons did it first
- sanman, on 10/22/2008, -0/+6Live video coverage from CNN-IBN India:

launch time scheduled for 6:22am IST / 8:52pm EST - rald84, on 10/22/2008, -0/+6you can kid around but stupid arithmetic errors doomed the mars lander because someone forgot a conversation factor between feet and meters
- Riggs, on 10/22/2008, -2/+8Good ***** god, what terrible comments. Anyways, it's great that other countries are building up their space programs. It should provide incentive for the US to continue funding NASA and become a top innovator once more.
- EvilKaz, on 10/22/2008, -0/+5Yes I know. And in many ways PRC achievements dwarf India's. But this article was about India and there's no doubt that they have come along way since independence.
- sockpuppets, on 10/22/2008, -4/+9They were in no real curry.
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+5There is nothing wrong with advancing the science of ones nation. Also there is much more research that can be done on the moon and an international effort to eventually build lunar bases will make future space travel and research much easier.
- dha07030, on 10/21/2008, -2/+7pssst we went to the moon forty years ago... with actual people.
- blitzkriegpunk, on 10/22/2008, -0/+5ehh?
I am sorry, but I do not speak Canadian.
:~| - sanman, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4yeah, but countries with high employment have achieved it through the private sector, not by everybody waiting for slow hand of govt to get to them
In India, there's a lot of obstructionism from militant labor unions, who throw up protest rallies anytime an entrepreneur tries to build a factory. So that's the real reason for unemployment, not the Indian space program. You need things like factories to create blue collar jobs for the unskilled masses. Militant labor unions don't seem to get this. - sanman, on 10/21/2008, -1/+5Well, the Cold War is over and there's more to be gained from cooperation in space endeavors
in space, the main challenge is from nature, rather from your fellow man
if anything, it should become more of a friendly competition, like the Olympics
Everybody will want to show off their talents and try to outdo each other with greater and greater feats - liljay2k, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4Sir, the U.S., and many other countries each have their share of the poor. Let me remind you, that the cost of war with the U.S. in Iraq is enough to money to provide healthcare for everyone in the U.S., andd release pressures of the poor in the there too.
Granted that the now Republic of India was robbed of their wealth by centuries of British rule, they should still do something about it, right? Hey, I have an idea, what if India become the world leader in space tourism, bringing in millions of dollars and making a profit? Profit that can be used for further human development, for the poor and rich. - acegi, on 10/22/2008, -1/+5so now india enters space competition along with current contenders such as russia, japan and china.
america has to step up their game. - acliffhang3r, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4You need to work on your jokes
- pcpimpster, on 10/22/2008, -1/+5"AND FOR ***** SAKE DIGG, I HATE LOGGING IN EVERYTIME I VISIT. *****."
That is most likely because you clear your history/cookies/forms data to disguise your porn surfing.
That 'could' explain your excessive use of the word "*****" - you stupid *****-*****-*****! - inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4I don't think you know anything about India... I think your just an over dramatic douche bag who, as unreg said, needs to learn to use a computer.
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4well done india.
- sanman, on 10/22/2008, -0/+4blah blah blah
Everybody's gotta lift their head up and shoot for the stars once in awhile -- or the moon, in this case - borez, on 10/21/2008, -3/+6We are liking the biryanis moonings thanking you.
- liljay2k, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3The U.S. creates +5 times more pollution than India does, which one sound like the toilet? Your statement does not stand up very well against the now dwindling U.S. economy, national debt, consumer credit, and import over export deficit.
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -1/+4I'd like to laugh, but this *****'s retarded. Off yourself for the benefit of mankind please.
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -2/+5Crap! Now it's gonna take forever to get through to tech support.
- tinymarae, on 10/22/2008, -0/+3The Indian Space program is very profitable.
http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2008/08/31/sto ... - akshay626, on 10/22/2008, -2/+5Damn Chinese will probably send up some 12 year olds... those cheating bastards!
- curiousg1414, on 10/21/2008, -8/+11So they found out how to divide by 0

- karan1003, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2That should say a democratic country that's only been independent for 60 years.
- liljay2k, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2How can I explain how the culture in India has failed? I can safely assume you have not been there to see 'the culture'. Culture there is what's thriving and flourishing, Indians love their Mother India, it's what's pushing them. Western technologies? You should seriously research the technological advances Indians have made in their own country, and around the world. In fact, do that before you start to assume that you are right about cultures in countries you have never been to. The government in India is not a regime, it's the largest democracy in the world. To a cooped-up upper-class man like you who wouldn't understand, that means other countries around the world are taking notes on how to govern such a large group of people.
- TheDHC, on 10/21/2008, -1/+3i wonder to this day if any of the apollo astronauts jerked off on the moon. it would have been the first lunarjack
- inactive, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2one small jack for man, one giant jack for mankind?

- ssamara, on 10/22/2008, -1/+3Well, this is indeed an historic moment.
India is leading a way for further research. - jdryyz, on 10/22/2008, -0/+2Ahh...someone who got it.
