- inactive, on 08/27/2008, -14/+408Unfortunately, conspiracy theorists never shut up, they just work the efforts to debunk their conspiracy into their theories.
- SRSco, on 08/28/2008, -83/+340When can the MythBusters do a show to shut up 9/11 Truthers? That is relevant to my Digg interests. There are too damn many of them on here.
(Observe how I will now get buried into oblivion by the Ron-Paul-Bob-Barr-Georgia-is-the-Aggressor-Troof Squad.) - inactive, on 08/28/2008, -36/+252Buried for "2nite".
- frazw, on 08/27/2008, -25/+200I hope this shuts up at least some of the conspiracy theorists
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -3/+144This was definitely one of the better MythBuster's episodes.
I think it's the fact that they shot a laser at the moon. That's some Dr. Evil ***** right there. - BigManOnCampus, on 08/27/2008, -20/+155That's like hoping a documentary on evolution will shut up creationists. They didn't reason themselves into their position, you can't reason them out. But I suppose one can hope.
- failedpimp, on 08/28/2008, -13/+110What if they confirm the myth?
- ryan83189, on 08/28/2008, -16/+98No it won't, they will just make even more ***** up. "They filmed the ORIGINAL in Jamie's workshop too, it's only going to confirm what we already know". But in all honesty, these guys are very good at special effects. I think most of the build team worked in special effects, set design and such. I would not be surprised if they out did themselves and made everything look perfect. This, of course, proves that it_could_have been done, not that it was.
- secrity, on 08/28/2008, -3/+83The retroreflector that was placed on the moon is pretty hard to fake.
- abrasion, on 08/28/2008, -24/+102I find it offensive that you imply Ron Paul fans happen to also be 9/11 nutcases, not all of his supporters are nutcases by any means.
Hell, I don't live in the US, never been to the US yet that man makes me wish I could vote. - Sonan, on 08/28/2008, -2/+76I watched this last night. And while it's true that they were able to recreate the photos, foot print, waving flag, and even the gravity of the moon, without actually going to the moon, you can't really say "maybe NASA did it that way too" in most cases. The most damning proof that we've been to the moon is with the laser reflection test, not that most conspiracy theorists would accept the proof, let alone understand it...
- TheConnection, on 08/28/2008, -5/+71Well, when someone asked Buzz Aldrin if the whole subject was a conspiracy; he gave them a right-hook... WWW!

Anyone who's been here long enough to recognise JimmySpaza's name from the large amounts of bile spewed around any thread relating to science will know that takamalak was fully justified using those terms. It's not libel when it's true. - takamalak, on 08/28/2008, -16/+66Spaz, yeah *he* doesn't understand any of the theories in play. JimmySpaza, the uneducated, creationist, hypocritical-christian, conservative, all-around-douchbag extraordinaire says someone else is ignorant of "the theories in play".
That is ***** rich. - arunforce, on 08/28/2008, -3/+52I believe it's because he ran out of space.
- sindex, on 08/28/2008, -5/+521. False identities.
2. Physics.
3. Yes. - bjs3171, on 08/28/2008, -2/+49and by "asked if the whole subject...", you mean "called him a liar and a thief".
- speel, on 08/28/2008, -2/+46http://www.mininova.org/tor/1743234
- pablo0713, on 08/28/2008, -14/+50I only ever watch this show to catch glimpses of that hot red head female!
- muckemuck, on 08/28/2008, -16/+51Georgia was the agressor. Saying it wasn't just shows you're an idiot and totally misinformed.
- cawpin, on 08/28/2008, -0/+35It was "a coward and a liar". The point stands, though.
- BigManOnCampus, on 08/27/2008, -1/+35Exactly, explanations that can't be addressed by their previous theory are just explained away as being "part of the wash of misinformation from the conspirators."
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -12/+45They won't confirm but I'd bet a million theoretical dollars that this will be "plausible".
They're going to test if it's possible to fake a moon landing. It is! Any studio can do it with enough budget, we see it all the time in movies.
The conspiracy will probably never be put to rest. Can't actually demonstrate that the moon landing was real because all the evidence is falsyfiable. There's evidence, but we could make it ourselves with the proper ressources.
And we can't prove it was faked either because there's nothing to show it was aside for very weak evidence (ridiculous stuff like the flag being straight). You'd need documents proving this was requested or find people willing to admit to it.
Can't prove it, can't disprove it. Doesn't really matter anyway, I think. The space program went on to do bigger and better things and will keep evolving regardless of what a few yokels think about the first moon landing. - tr0y85, on 08/28/2008, -6/+39Did a high school girl submit this article on her sidekick?
- cyx7, on 08/28/2008, -2/+33BUSTED
- uncoveror, on 08/28/2008, -0/+29It won't. You can't argue rationally with irrational people. They will just insist that any evidence you present is fake. So many people believe so much nonsense that a new dark age cannot be far off.
- brainnovate, on 08/27/2008, -11/+38I am looking forward to seeing this show. Checking my local listings now :)
- APHughes, on 08/28/2008, -15/+41That's like hoping people won't say 9/11 was caused by our government
- Zipko, on 08/28/2008, -2/+27You've got to admit, he is one dedicated troll.
- polumrak, on 08/28/2008, -7/+30So you're not only a global warming denier, you also think there's some ground to fake Moon landing theories.
How do you feel about pyramids? Any sings of extraterrestrial help there? - Drifton, on 08/28/2008, -0/+23Yes because NASA spent a ***** ton of money and time creating a hoax that has lasted for decades, sold to the international community, was hailed as one of America's greatest achievments, but someone left a soda can from lunch in one of the shots, and nobody caught it.
Sounds right.
Christ... - fantomas69, on 08/28/2008, -24/+47what is next? God?
Biggest myth of all - JayceMJ, on 08/28/2008, -5/+27Anything that's not falsifiable or testable should be ignored. Which includes most conspiracy theories and all religions.
- notjasonlee, on 08/28/2008, -0/+22yes, but then i would say "they shot that flag into the moon from a satellite!"
- ApokalypseNow, on 08/28/2008, -3/+24He's also a creationist - he's about as anti-science as they come without actually being a Luddite.
- mcquitty, on 08/28/2008, -11/+32Don't you know it is all Mr. Bush's fault.
Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, can be blamed on him.
For example, did you know that dinosaurs went extinct because they knew Mr. Bush would use them and plants for oil millions of years later?
Hurricane Katrina was also Mr. Bush's fault. However, it didn't turn out the way Katrina wanted. Katrina was hoping that Mr. Nagin and Ms. Blanco would declare a state of emergency, so Mr. Bush could act. Because of that, Katrina didn't turn into a PR opportunity for Mr. Bush as Katrina had hoped.
The attack on the USS Cole was also Mr. Bush's fault. See, even before Mr. Bush took office, he was running for president and the terrorists hated this, so they bombed the USS Cole.
The ozone hole was also created by Mr. Bush. See, the earth knew that people would blame everything on him, so it created the hole to give people skin cancer, all so it could be blamed on Mr. Bush.
So, sir, please take your "Out the Truthers" movement somewhere else. People know that Mr. Bush is so stupid and incompetent that he can't do anything, but I have just given you evidence that Mr. Bush has conspired against dinosaurs, the ozone, the weather and terrorists. He can't be that stupid if he has caused all of this and only a handful of people know "the truth".
So, please sir. Good Day! - Pilot85, on 08/28/2008, -0/+20Fire the "laser"!
- Suilenroc, on 08/28/2008, -1/+21On the face of it, conspiracy theorists are the best kind of scientist. They question established fact, and come up with alternative explanations. That's the very basis of science.
However, where they lose their credentials is when they ignore all evidence contradicting their claims. It turns out that they don't arrive somewhere because of evidence, they make they evidence arrive somewhere because that's what they already believe. And that is not a scientist. That's an idiot. - tullyr, on 08/28/2008, -1/+21I think APHughes was talking about the 9/11 conspiracy theory predominantly in the Arab world that it was agents of the US government who literally hijacked the planes.
It's all getting pretty irrelevant now. 9/11 happened, Afghanistan and Iraq happened in response. Now just about every other country in the world has the ***** with the USA, it's just a matter of degree. - Obermeister, on 08/28/2008, -2/+22They deflated the specific arguments made by the conspiracy theorists. They did a spectacular job of this. What most people don't get is that conspiracy theorists pull stuff directly out of their asses, like "you need two light sources for this shot". The mythbusters built models to test these theories, and proved them FALSE. Of course, that will never stop ***** theorists from making ***** up to fool gullible people, but at least the mythbusters call them on their ***** - it almost makes up for all those stupid ghost and alien shows that discovery and friends are always wasting airtime with.
- MWeather, on 08/28/2008, -38/+58It WAS caused by our government. You don't really buy that "They hate us for our freedom" crap, do you?
They hate us for what our government has done. - garvallagh, on 08/28/2008, -2/+21Send a ***** satellite zipping past and take a ***** photo of the moon buggy, problem solved,
Im sure they know the co-ordinates of where they parked the damn thing - tallassrob, on 08/28/2008, -0/+19One of the Apollo missions left behind a large retroreflector on the moons surface. If you point a large enough laser at this retroreflector it will bounce back some of the lasers light. They do this on the show, and it proves that we have left man made equipment on the moon.
- BigManOnCampus, on 08/28/2008, -1/+20If you had risked your life and accomplished a feat that was previously unimaginable for humanity and in your retirement someone was hounding you with the implication that you're a big fat liar and a conspiracist... I would forgive you for punching the ***** who hounded you.
- MrMysterious, on 08/28/2008, -2/+21It was on last night and it was a pretty good episode. They busted everything that they went up against.
- FeloniusMonkey, on 08/28/2008, -1/+20There are a few conspiracy theories worth investigating. This one is kinda absurd though.
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -0/+19No amount of evidence can prove them wrong. I don't even see why we have to go through with this crap. I mean, if someone makes an outlandish claim, but then further states that under no circumstances can that outlandish claim be proven wrong, they should just be ignored.
- JustLoren, on 08/28/2008, -2/+20You neglected the constant downward acceleration provided by the moon's gravity, coupled with how the cloth would eventually dissipate any momentum into heat.
So it shouldn't be moving right now, or even shortly after it was placed :) - RandaII, on 08/28/2008, -0/+18omg I really hope you watched that episode. Then maybe you can SHUT THE ***** UP!/
- Rysac1, on 08/28/2008, -2/+19Dude everyone knows the pyramids are landing sites for g'ould motherships.
