- listrophy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29I volunteer to drive the Google CraterView(tm) car!
- fcrow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28Excellent news! It's good to see the space industry going commercial.
- nytel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23Google just wants to populate the moon with robots.
- Patogrande, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17They KNOW world domination is out of reach! That's why they're shooting for the moon!
- thunderer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Did you just doubt Google?
Drag this heretic away! - chrgrose, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8How can you not love google when they are sponsoring the progression of such human achievements? I love you google :)
- crushfan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I love how they linked Google at the bottom of the article, as "Google: http://www.google.com" Thanks for the heads up, mister!
- HanSolo69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6That's no search engine!
- ChrisAlbon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6In response, Microsoft offers $30 million to any lawyer able to trademark the moon and collect royalties from anyone who looks at it.
- TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Isn't a gig of space imagery like one high-res image? :P
- HippyJM, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Taking the government out of another part of our lives and the advancement in science. Thank you.
- griz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Already done.
- teethman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Google will save us all
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3By the way, http://moon.google.com was relaunched in conjunction with the X-prize announcment. Evidently some great new content from new high-resolution imagery, elevation, detailed descriptions of the Apollo missions, and even street view for the Moon were added.
Enjoy. - mattnyc99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Popular Mechanics' space correspondent, who's been in the trenches with Burt Rutan, Steve Fossett and Buzz Aldrin, comes out HARD against the lunar X Prize, calling it a Google publicity stunt and offering five really smart reasons why NOBODY will win it: http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/air_space/4222146.html?series=35
- RobTyree, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Shotgun!
- kiwikultist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You say that now. Just wait until a giant Nike swoosh ends up branded on the moon...
- sicnarfKYBLEHS, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Will google go get my robot and bring it back to me, or will it have to stay on the moon forever? I'll miss you C2-4P6, but $30 million is a ton of cash. Does anyone have a rocket I can borrow?
- InvisibleMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Tesla, Edison, and the Wright Brothers would like there government funding now..... they are still waiting.
- diggitizer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2$30 million a gigabyte?
I thought my mobile data charges were high. This is obviously a stunt to show the FCC just how bad the networks are in the US.
Go go gadget google! - diggitizer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Are you kidding? Who would admit their whole life was based on a lie (that the moon landings were faked)
It would add more conspiracies. Google paid for this to send the evidence up there... - Manhigh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2 ...
- sukimashita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2He means spider pigs.
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Err, only about 4 hours old.
Sep 13, 6:33 PM EDT - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's very new, moron.
- InvisibleMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Roombas in SPACE!!!
- ramvi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ubuntu, FSF - someone with the right principles: make a project of it so anyone can help out!
- cexpjared, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I'm in!
All I need is the rocket they built on Myth-Busters, a roomba, My digital camera and some duct tape. 30 Million, here I come...! - ISEEDEADPEOPLE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1OK so what was wrong with my submission 2 hours earlier!
http://digg.com/space/Google_backs_private_Moon_landing_3
Just wondering?? - geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1One mile / 4. (approximately).
- emjaymj, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I came in this thread specifically to say that :(
- perkoff, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yeah cause the moons a pretty small place and no matter where you land on the moon you'll be able to see every other part of the moon.
- Aereo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Boy, they're really serious about this Street View thing, aren't they?
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Who knew, maybe Moon Shoes will make a comeback:
http://images.google.com/images?q=moon+shoes - jeffiek, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3B-B-B-But without government funding there will be no space research.
- cexpjared, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I'm in!
I need the plans from Myth-Busters when they built that rocket, a Roomba, Some duct tape and a camera. 30 Million, Here I come! - hilo4321, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1google = t3h jesus
- HsoKinees, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1He means Monkeylords! The Cybran Nation will liberate the Moon, with the help of Google! :D
- chrgrose, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well there would be a huge decrease in space research in regards to anything that is not directly related to profitable things. Sure we would still probably see achievements in space technology, but the sciences would without a doubt absolutely suffer an enormous blow. I study planetary geophysics. My discipline would simply not exist were it not for NASA and NSF. Ron Paul's solution is wrong.
- kidmaninwar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1every time i hear about this story the prize go up by 10 million, or 5 google shares
- ToadLeg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The Moon will become a giant drawball: http://www.drawball.com/
- mtrip, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1There's a 5 million dollar bonus if the robot takes pictures of the Apollo stuff left behind, but of course even that wouldn't put a dent in the conspiracies efforts since their theories have no relation to reality.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The world is not enough for Google.
- griz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Now they will have a moon buggy with tat funky camera on it. Google crater view.
- gn0stik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You mean spider bots.
- InvisibleMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You must be using some new definition of the word OLD or you have a lifespan of few hours and its looks old in comparison, I which case you are already dead, my condolences.
- WaldoX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Google Mars
- Yage2006, on 10/10/2007, -0/+130 million is nothing to google.
It is great to see them doing something good with all that $$$ - robertgoodwin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I personally welcome our future robotic lunar overlords.... yeah, I know, digg me down.
