- Scaryclouds, on 11/02/2008, -1/+202It should send out a "Mission Complete" and detonate to ensure those Turian bastards don't get inspect our technology!
- kravex, on 11/03/2008, -3/+156Cover up, Transformers killed it.
- Hobbes24, on 11/02/2008, -8/+146good night sweet prince
2007-2008 - freefallgrue, on 11/03/2008, -1/+74If they need a frigid place to test these things, I offer the use of my ex's panties.
- zaldoe, on 11/03/2008, -0/+73well done NASA !
Mission Accomplished... - nationalist, on 11/03/2008, -3/+73Spirit [to Phoenix]: I have survived 5 years on Mars, power malfunctions, and a broken wheel. You, Sir, are FAIL.
Opportunity: Agreed. - frositay, on 11/03/2008, -0/+54RIP Mars Phoenix Lander :(.
- aussieNickuss, on 11/03/2008, -1/+55Such a tragedy. A young soul taken too soon. My prayers are with Phoenix Lander and his family.
- Kakemonstere, on 11/03/2008, -4/+52Ofc, now I think an engineer working for NASA knows a little more about this stuff than a guy that is not an engineer. Just sayin:P
- TunaFishGangsta, on 11/03/2008, -1/+43You know, "Mission Accomplished" just doesn't have the same umph that it used to.
- honeybrass, on 11/03/2008, -2/+41thats why you are not an engineer yet.
- jaytea90, on 11/03/2008, -2/+32WALLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

- ParaSwarm, on 11/03/2008, -2/+26***** you, two of my friends died testing your ex's panties.
- warriorscot, on 11/03/2008, -0/+24They are very different machines, Pheonix was designed for a 3 month mission its has surpassed that, and it was designed for analysis not exploration like the rovers as it has used up all its analysis materials it is really not very much use even if it survived. The budget gap between the two was also huge, Pheonix wasn't actually built by NASA but for NASA after the team based at Arizona won with the lowest bid.
- Celebrimbor, on 11/03/2008, -0/+24It's actually from Hamlet, but as with most Shakespeare, it has been usurped by pop culture.
- suprememilo, on 11/03/2008, -11/+33I'm not an engineer yet but if I built a rover it would be able to just sit there during the cold months then wake back up.
- Jektal, on 11/03/2008, -0/+19Large enough for rovers, eh?
- cfuse, on 11/03/2008, -0/+18Why don't people have more love for science? It's given them everything of worth in their lives.
- aussieNickuss, on 11/03/2008, -0/+18Phoenix Lander is on the north pole of Mars where is it much colder, and the weather is worse.
- exposedink, on 11/03/2008, -2/+19Number Five is alive!!! tear...
- warriorscot, on 11/03/2008, -0/+17In theory it can if the cold doesn't cause too much damage, and if the team had limitless money then it probably would have faired better but they had a tight budget. I was at a guest lecture a couple of weeks ago with one of the team that built and operated Pheonix and some of the things they used to save money were quite clever and surprising.
The lander also has a limited amount of testing it can do, once its testing chambers have used up reagents they can't analyse soil samples meaning it would only be able to take measurements with its cameras and its laser. - Aroundtheworls, on 11/03/2008, -0/+17Meanwhile the two little Mars rovers keep soldiering on: http://marsrover.nasa.gov/home/
- untitlednet, on 11/03/2008, -1/+16Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human.
- seanc6610, on 11/03/2008, -0/+14far more closer?
- Dotcommer, on 11/03/2008, -0/+14Well, if anyone actually knew about this stuff, they'd know that all of the rovers and the phoenix have the ability to go into a deep sleep during the winter. Its called the lazurus mode, and it will wake back up when it receives enough power to turn back on various systems. Check out the phoenix's twitter: http://twitter.com/MarsPhoenix
- RetlawST, on 11/03/2008, -0/+14"I should stay well-preserved in this cold. I'll be humankind's monument here for centuries, eons, until future explorers come for me."
http://twitter.com/MarsPhoenix - spaceshipsix, on 11/03/2008, -0/+13He was trying to say it's less farther.
- Firespray1138, on 11/03/2008, -2/+14It's from 4chan.
- mecharabbit, on 11/03/2008, -0/+11The Decepticons, specifically. Let's not give all Transformers a bad name.
- wolfeater2, on 11/03/2008, -0/+11yeah Im sending flowers to his father, Megatron
- puttly, on 11/03/2008, -0/+10Cold months? Nope.. Cold years yes.. Martian winters last at least two earth years. Of course NASA has thought about waking it back up when it gets warm, imagine your car during the winter, if it sits outside in -40 celcius it may not start the next day.. Now think of a -200celcius winter that lasts over two years...
- vaeldas, on 11/03/2008, -1/+10"but future generations are likely going to wish we parked it somewhere where it can be retrieved for Mars' first history museum, when we go to settle the planet."
In the future, we will watch "Ow My Balls" and spend our time digging through our piles of trash, not caring about Mars. Unless Mars has oil, in which case: "Join the U.S. Army for a chance to go to Mars!" - mecharabbit, on 11/03/2008, -0/+9KHAAAAAAAAAN!
http://www.khaaan.com/ - matude, on 11/03/2008, -2/+11.. and also Spirit is far more closer to equator than Phoenix.
- WiretapStudios, on 11/03/2008, -0/+8DO NOT DISASSEMBLE
- solarsavior, on 11/03/2008, -0/+8No kidding. Sometimes their stuff blows up and lives are lost, but we do need to remember that they're still sending spacecraft to other freaking planets and putting people into orbit.
- AmericansRevolt, on 11/03/2008, -0/+8spirit and opportunity were also slated for a 3 month lifespan, max. in my opinion they were the greatest success of any mars mission period. maybe any space mission to date....
- taketheleap, on 11/03/2008, -1/+9... and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
- Murdats, on 11/03/2008, -0/+8he does, but they don't expect it to survive the freezing, blasting and various other unfavourable conditions, then again spirit has lasted years beyond what it was supposed to.
- 1gunners4, on 11/03/2008, -0/+7It was on Twitter, man!
- RyGiL, on 11/03/2008, -0/+7I'm reporting you to PETC (People for the Ethical Treatment of Corkscrews).
- gizmo1354, on 11/03/2008, -1/+8At least one part of our government can successfully use that phrase ;)
- manogamez, on 11/03/2008, -0/+7I will miss your intrastellar twitterings my dear old friend!
RIP - Jaydo, on 11/03/2008, -0/+7I'm going to thoroughly miss the phoenix twitter updates.
I remember how much I geeked out after checking my phone and accidentally yelled, "It's SNOWING on MARS!!!" in the middle of a jack in the box. - Minters, on 11/03/2008, -1/+8Dugg for sweet prince meme
- MasterGrief, on 11/03/2008, -6/+13Good backstory. Rather poor gameplay.
- mafax, on 11/03/2008, -0/+7he was my bestfriend...:(
