- blinkatron, on 04/18/2008, -1/+11Hopefully NASA can get some more funding so we can start sending people to Mars and beyond. Thanks for everything NASA!
- blinkatron, on 04/18/2008, -0/+10Here is a list of invetions that came out of the Apollo program: http://space.about.com/od/toolsequipment/ss/apollo ...
NASA has done a lot for you, my friend. - OfNumbers, on 04/18/2008, -1/+950 years. In seven small pictures.
- skeen07, on 04/18/2008, -0/+7NASA is something americans can truly be proud of, if nothing else!
- lead2thehead, on 04/18/2008, -0/+5If NASA had as much funding as the military, we'd have warp drive by now.
- mytibt, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3this is one giant leap backward for slideshows (2 clicks to get to the next pic)?
- LingNoi, on 04/20/2008, -0/+3Awesome, that'll give time for my country to get up there instead. Thanks.
- edwartica, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3That's one small step for A man
- yaddayaddayoda, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2Holy f*ck. I am standing on the f*cking moon.
- skews13, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2everyone that is sitting in front of a computer right now, thank nasa. oh,and also battery operated hand held tools, the developement of new materials that are used in everyday life, the wireless communications we use, including the developement, and launch of satellites for weather observation that has saved countless lives. and that's just a few i can think of right now. nasa is about the only thing worth while america has anymore.
- goodylallen, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2I totally agree. We'd also have teleporters.
- maybeishould, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2Considering Obama wants to suck money out of NASA and halt the space program for a decade.
- 3dprototype, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2Covering 50 years in seven pictures. I'm underwhelmed!
- SirDomino, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Assuredly I say unto you that what you hath spoken is the truth.
- erkokite, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Well, they just sent a probe to Pluto and the Kuiper belt (New Horizons). And another one to Mars (Phoenix). And a few years back they discovered that there was indeed liquid water on Mars. Not to even mention all the other things that the rovers that they built have discovered.
- davidrools, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I agree that compared to the space race years it seems like we haven't done much, but I prefer to think of those first few decades as extraordinarily aggressive progress. Once we get out of Iraq we might have enough money to make a run at Mars and get a lot of excitement back into the space program.
- ramaz, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1The "a" part was not heard very well in the original statement across the NASA communication links. So in the news media it was quoted as "one small step for man," and Armstrong didn't find out about the misquote until some days later when it was pretty much too late.
- edwartica, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Really? Noooooooooooooooooo. I did not know that!
- erkokite, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1When private corporations send people to the moon, probes to Mars, Saturn, Titan, Pluto, and put massive telescopes in outer space capable of viewing objects millions of light years away, then you can talk.
- Puisapres, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1We miss you, Pete Conrad....
- kunradish, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1if it wasn't for the dark ages we would be colonizing space right now.
- RMoore08, on 04/18/2008, -1/+1What space exploration?
- FSMonster, on 04/18/2008, -0/+0Amazing. Makes it look like the manned program was all there was !
- RMoore08, on 04/18/2008, -1/+1Sarcasm right?
- HouseofEl, on 04/18/2008, -2/+1Dupe of a story that was on the front page no less then a few hours ago. buried.
- spyd3rweb, on 04/18/2008, -2/+1That was 33 years ago, that hardly classifies as 'lately'
- ThreeE, on 04/18/2008, -2/+0Complete *****. Everyone of these examples is a case of NASA discovering 0.01% of the needed technology followed by someone else, usually a public company, doing the rest -- including implementation. In addition, if this is your justification for NASA, why not just fund these things directly instead of creating a bloated government agency that crowds out private investment?
- Kune171, on 04/18/2008, -5/+3"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
- empirefalling, on 04/19/2008, -5/+2NASA is a failure. Propped up by a corrupt and malicious government, the monies it spends for space exploration is nothing more than a cover for the militarization of space. As Obama stated, it's budget will be severely cut and monies diverted to more important social programs that Americans need to recover from 8 years of the Bush tyranny.
- spyd3rweb, on 04/18/2008, -7/+3And what exactly have they accomplished lately?
- inactive, on 04/18/2008, -14/+1***** that website up the ass
- inactive, on 04/18/2008, -16/+1GO OBAMA!
