- 9bpm9, on 05/19/2008, -7/+382Yes, I agree to your copyright notice for gods sake.
- zomgorly, on 05/19/2008, -11/+217I didn't know space contained CGI satellites.
- keepinithamsta, on 05/19/2008, -9/+215Photoshopped. The shadows are all wrong.
- Cyberdactyl, on 05/19/2008, -2/+177Since they did it in high res, why make them all the size of New York city?
- AbsurdParadox, on 05/19/2008, -0/+92To those of you making comments about space being polluted... keep in mind that the satellites are extremely out of proportion. If they were actual size, they would not be visible.
- wesniles, on 05/19/2008, -1/+90i wonder how many more its gonna take until we get a ring like saturn...
- matthewniverse, on 05/19/2008, -16/+72We've paved paradise and put up a junk yard...
- luckyguy2000, on 05/19/2008, -2/+48on a given altitude all satellites MUST have the same speed unless the dont want to leave stable orbit.
- SgtSchizoid, on 05/19/2008, -6/+51I never would have believed how much **** we got up there.
- s14sh3r, on 05/19/2008, -3/+47Damn, that's the astronomical equivalent of cars on blocks in the front yard.
- ctrlfreak13, on 05/19/2008, -0/+42NASA allows you to view realtime where (most) all satellites are located using a free web-based java app: http://science.nasa.gov/realtime/jtrack/3d/JTrack3 ...
The high-res image the ESA has is really nice though - LesPaul75, on 05/19/2008, -3/+38I am sneaky... I actually DON'T agree to their terms, but I clicked "I Agree" anyway, just so I could see the pictures!!
- WriterSD, on 05/19/2008, -10/+45Wow
- bikepundit, on 05/19/2008, -1/+30What's with all the orbiting Stanley Cups?
- inactive, on 05/19/2008, -11/+40it's pure probability.
it'd be like putting 5000 people in random locations, on a pure flat continent the size of Asia.. then having them run around at random.. The chance of them ever colliding with one another would be very slim.
thats on a 2-dimensional idea.... the odds of 2 of the 5000 (estimating) satellites being in the same exact spot in the same timeframe, would be extremely rare. - EagleTG, on 05/19/2008, -0/+28Yah, this is borderline comment abuse, but it looks like direct links work to get you past all of that crap:

http://esamultimedia.esa.int/images/spacecraft-ope ... - alecks, on 05/19/2008, -1/+27How does the FAA keep track of all planes in the sky?
(hint: I bet a computer is involved) - Cloud7654, on 05/19/2008, -0/+24Yeah, it's no wonder aliens haven't invaded us yet. We've got so much ***** floating around us, no one would want to come here. Same reason as no one wants to hang out with hobos with flies flying around them.
- joeydoo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+24There is a swear filter..... so why the ***** *****-sock do some people put little *****-cake asterisks on their post?
- luckyguy2000, on 05/19/2008, -0/+23to make it look more shocking?
- Screwy1138, on 05/19/2008, -0/+22Wow that's the most complex defense shield we've ever seen!
- kgunning, on 05/19/2008, -1/+22Is the country Vagina?
- MacEnvy, on 05/19/2008, -1/+22You can delete your misplaced comments now, you know.
- Heavypettingzoo, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2142
- RedRoostered, on 05/19/2008, -12/+31How do they make sure that the satellites dont collide with each other? Or do they all orbit at the same speed?
- skitle007, on 05/19/2008, -4/+22If I were an advanced alien species and saw this while driving by, I would not stop.
- FKnight, on 05/19/2008, -1/+19The scale of this makes it look like something completely different from reality. There is not a wall of satellites blocking a clean view of Earth like these pictures represent.
- Nightsilencer, on 05/19/2008, -0/+18Well, since there's that much crap orbiting the planet, if we keep sending trash into our lower orbit, we'll have an asteroid shield in no time!
/Sarcasm... I guess. - punkcat, on 05/19/2008, -0/+17oh those computers, what will the think of next.
- houndeyex, on 05/19/2008, -1/+17Guns don't kill people, I do.
- AndrewNorris, on 05/19/2008, -0/+15Sure, but finding Sputnik beats the hell out of Waldo.
- acdcfanbill, on 05/19/2008, -0/+15I'm strangely OK with you equating copyright notices to kidnapping.
- jamdogg, on 05/19/2008, -7/+21Human garbage gets everywhere!
- jordan314, on 05/19/2008, -1/+13I had the same thought, but then looking at the scale of that picture I realized each satellite was rendered as big as a state. In real life I think they're way smaller.
- maldovix, on 05/19/2008, -1/+13I think what's most worrisome is their diagrams of what would occur in an explosion in geosynchronous orbit. Remember how easy it was for the US to take down that old satellite several months back? All you need is one disgruntled nation with a surface to space missile (hint: ends in -ina) to wipe out most of the world's communication and positioning ability.
- SubaruPowah, on 05/19/2008, -1/+13There's alot of similar bottles floating around in orbit.
- TheShom, on 05/19/2008, -0/+12Damn, looks like the Earth's gonna get it's own set of "rings" soon
- mercano, on 05/19/2008, -1/+12With alien technology acquired by the SGC folks downstairs, of course.
- JerodSlay, on 05/19/2008, -0/+11Here's the program that does that... I think
http://science.nasa.gov/Realtime/jtrack/3d/JTrack3 ... - Xanin, on 05/19/2008, -9/+19Someone needs to download the hi-res versions and upload them to imageshack or something, just to show them that copyright notices do more harm than good.
- sweetfeld28, on 05/19/2008, -9/+19How the hell does NORAD keep track of all those things?
- IllBeBack, on 05/19/2008, -1/+11"Our some of you seriously bothered by this?"
You seriously believe that the word "our" was the correct word? Do the words "our" and "are" sound exactly the same to you? Does "our" rhyme with "hour" or "bar" according to you? - HousePlaya, on 05/19/2008, -11/+21Wow, really? Our some of you seriously bothered by this? Yes, that's right people. Its just a bunch of "junk" up there. A bunch of garbage "polluting"......???? space. As in, space... lots and lots and lots of... space. A bunch of junk that gives you communications, internet, gps, a bajillion TV channels, weather information, military intelligence, etc. Oh, but of course, its bad enough that we pollute the Earth and damage our environment. How dare we think its ok to pollute... space. We only have one space you know, and once we ruin it with all our junk, we'll be sorry.
- Harrison88, on 05/19/2008, -4/+14I didn't realise there had been that many launches to get all those in to orbit.
- greenlight2001, on 05/19/2008, -0/+10Well then, let's get to it!
- CautiousChaos, on 05/19/2008, -4/+13If you blur your eyes while looking at this picture you can see a dinosaur.
- joot2112, on 05/19/2008, -0/+8Maybe that's because each satellite is not actually large enough to obscure New Delhi, when viewed from a distance far enough to see the entire Earth. It doesn't mean the pictures are "wrong" -- they were done this way on purpose so you can visualize how much crap is out there.
- inajeep, on 05/19/2008, -0/+7Must be those Ruskies and their delicious vodka.
- Murdats, on 05/19/2008, -0/+7they are quality.
- 8bitflu, on 05/19/2008, -0/+7Hippie.
