- Falldog, on 08/10/2008, -6/+100You can't really say "as seen from space" when it's Google Earth overlapped with statistical data and photoshop.
- matthewaaron, on 08/10/2008, -9/+43Hello MrBabyMan!
- cgbspender, on 08/10/2008, -1/+21Inaccurate. The internets are not lasers, they are a series of tubes.
And its not exactly what Britain looks like from space. - bouche, on 08/10/2008, -3/+23I didn't know that satellites could pick take photos of the internet.
buried for inaccurate description. - mark076h, on 08/10/2008, -0/+19These are from a show that airs today http://www.bbc.co.uk/britainfromabove/ looks really interesting
- CasinoJack, on 08/10/2008, -0/+18The Daily Mail is all that and much worse - I strongly advise you go bleach your eyes and forget what you saw.
- waydee, on 08/10/2008, -0/+17Horrible right-wing tabloid for idiots, famous in the UK for supporting fascism before and during WW2. It's not taken seriously by the vast majority and its constant right wing agenda makes it something of a joke, a joke that isn't so funny when it constantly makes the front page here.
Readership is primarily xenophobic, bigoted middle Englanders and those who don't know any better. - dha07030, on 08/10/2008, -1/+17Wake up earlier?
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+16Cool pics.
I was reading the sidebar. WTF is wrong with this newspaper? It's like the worst form of celebrity tripe. Is that an aberration or is the Daily Mail really that grotesque? If that's usual, I have to assume that there are other, better news sources in Britain.
And, yes, I realize that I'm from the US and don't have any room to criticize given the execrable state of our own corporate media. I'm just sayin'.... - BeachShackBBQ, on 08/10/2008, -1/+15the purple one looks like the most epic laser tag fight ever.
- QurrUm, on 08/10/2008, -2/+13Did anyone else think of that one shot of Coruscant from space when they saw those pics?
- theright, on 08/10/2008, -0/+10"WTF is wrong with this newspaper?"
It's the Daily Mail. - klitzbtc, on 08/10/2008, -0/+10I'd like to bury it because the description is way off, but the photos are awesome.
- Meccabilly, on 08/10/2008, -7/+16What a coincidence - I hope they do one for every city in the world except those in the states.
- squij, on 08/10/2008, -0/+8You say Fox, I say Daily Mail.
- whazdown, on 08/10/2008, -2/+9Ignorant *****.
- whazdown, on 08/10/2008, -2/+8Actually surprised the Mail didn't mention Princess Diana or illegal immigrants.
- ccxftw, on 08/10/2008, -5/+11So that's how the internet works.
- Dexists, on 08/10/2008, -1/+7And his sponsor the daily mail
- phenom2k7, on 08/10/2008, -0/+5Just all statistical data made to look pretty.

- sebey, on 08/10/2008, -1/+5how did they get those outlines of the internet and trains and taxis ?
- Mawds, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3Just watched it, it was good. Had to laugh at the guy dealing with the end of Eastenders cuppa tea pick me up. And then curse the French for letting us down. We need our tea!
- dacoatne, on 08/10/2008, -2/+5They forgot the one that could magically detect the movements of Scientologists.
- jls33fsls, on 08/10/2008, -1/+4So does this now mean that the internet is the largest man made "structure" visible from space?
- j0etb, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3In answer to your question (/ stated assumption) yes there are better news resources available here ;-)
- monkeymad2, on 08/10/2008, -3/+6They say Britain but then pretty much only show England...bastards..
- MrCoke, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3they are not using Google earth images, but basically the same concept. looks interesting at least
- Paranoidmarvin, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Just finished watching the program.
Absolutely fascinating - I particularly like the guy in charge of the National Grid.
BTW, you can actually see what capacity the National Grid is running at on this site:
http://www.nationalgrid.com/uk/Electricity/Data/Re ... - Dexists, on 08/11/2008, -0/+2It's the daily mail. They get submitted to digg a lot, unfortunately. For instance, MrBabyMan could have submitted the original BBC link (giving credit where its due), but he decided to post from this awful trash newspaper.
Interestingly, most of the daily mail articles that make front page are MrBabyMan's... - bokep, on 08/10/2008, -1/+3bbc always comes up with awesome programming
- padiq, on 08/10/2008, -1/+3Urm... Where are the full versions of these amazing pics... Some of them are only showing the south of Britain!
- jellygraph, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1very cool
- teh_spazz, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1So that's what's happening when I'm downloading porn...

"stick to the roads" - kevyn, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Did You Know?
Fascinating facts and figures in Britain from Above.
Did you know....
* The English Channel is the busiest shipping lane in the world: on a typical day 400 plus vessels travel through the Dover Straits, the biggest of which weigh up to 150,000 tonnes and take 3.5 miles to come to a stop.
* East London's Beckton Sewage Plant - all 280 football pitches worth of tanks, troughs and waterways - is one of the largest in Europe.
* On an average day, Britain's water pipes carry 16 billion litres of water - enough to fill 18 million bathtubs.
* In less than a week the waste sent to sewage plants is clean enough to be able to be pumped back into our taps.
* At the peak of the working day Britons send more than 5,000 text messages per second.
* 109 square miles of British countryside is just used for landfill.
* Between 7 and 10am, 36 million Britons are on the move commuting to the office or school.
* The average road user will spend more than 6 months of their life stuck in traffic jams.
* Every day more than 7,500 civilian aircraft crowd Britain's airspace, carrying more that half a million passengers.
* Over three quarters of a billion pounds in hard cash is transported around the roads of Britain every day. Driving one of the secured vans is one of the most dangerous jobs in the country with sometimes 15 attacks a week.
* Every day the nation's rubbish trucks collect more than 82,000 tonnes of refuse. - marklar69, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1wow what spectrum is the internet in?
- cfuse, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1I wasn't aware that there was so much lava there.
- chaosmantis, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Wow one of those purple lines is me downloading a video of some chick getting ploughed... what an age we live in!
- twigboy, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1i want to see that for my country!
- TheCatsPants, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1I thought the programme was typical of most premium BBC 'documentaries' these days - very pretty to look at but basically a 'fluff' piece.
- naughtyboy, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1A savant would have said 9745.
- cmyk, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1All the purple lines are the porn sites.
- TheAuditor, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1No other country in the world has to increase its power output because of over 1 million kettles being turned on in less than 5 minutes
- dsmx, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1That was one epic missile command game.....
- Separ, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Taken from the BBC program 'Britain From Above' which I just finished watching actually. Interesting program :D
The guy sitting at the end of Eastenders having to rush to switch on a few power plants to generate the extra electricity for the British people making their cups of tea or coffee was hilarious. -
