- Mrdudeperson, on 08/18/2008, -0/+7I wanna see some Rover Wars!
- cledford, on 08/18/2008, -1/+7maybe this one will bring us back a martian.
- dreman, on 08/18/2008, -0/+4Number 5?
- Ozeki, on 08/18/2008, -0/+3Or Transformers.
- zplot, on 08/17/2008, -1/+3"Pasteur has equipment on board to search for traces of amino acids (the precursor to life as we know it)..., but it also has a vast array of instruments monitoring seismic, tectonic and volcanic activity, all the way to the planet’s core." Sounds like a nice next step after the Phoenix polar lander - search the ice one top, then go deep underground.
- mark076h, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2There are actually a few different rovers being worked on right now for a 2013 launch date, bbc news had a great article and video on them a few days ago, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7561093. ...
if anyone is really interested in Mars and the current Mars rovers, i highly recommend "POSTCARDS FROM MARS: The First Photographer on the Red Planet" http://www.amazon.com/Postcards-Mars-First-Photogr ... it is a great book going over the MEV( Mars exploration rover) program with some amazing pictures, it is pretty much a coffee table photo book but all the photos have detailed information about them And you can pick it up from amazon for $12.99 an amazing deal.
And if you want to know how rovers get from earth to Mars a great movie is Roving Mars http://www.amazon.com/Roving-Mars-Paul-Newman/dp/B ... - delta013, on 08/18/2008, -1/+3Nice rims.
- DrSnugglebunny, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2I read the headline first as "EmoMars Rover"... now that would be interesting. More likely to self harm than to sample Mars?
- bullox, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2I'll take a martini.
- Jareth86, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2Europa is more likely to have life. It has a salt water ocean, with volcanic activity near the bottom.
- lostngone, on 08/18/2008, -2/+4At least it will look good when it slams into Mars. Please try to hit any of our landers.
See if you can find out what happened to beagle. - WhiskeyThieves, on 08/18/2008, -0/+2Johnny Five on Mars, sweet!!
- Jareth86, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1The fluctuating magnetosphere shows that there is a conductive material beneath the surface that freezes and thaws, depending on its distance from the sun. Based on its distance, and the fact that the surface is covered in water ice, that substance could only be salt water.
- Scaryclouds, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1What?! We have no idea if Europa has an ocean under it's icy crust (though there is plenty of evidence supporting it) much less if it's salty! Though I would agree with the sentiment that Europa would be a good place to search for life (in our solar system).
My list of solar bodies most likely to have biological activity (excluding Earth)
1. Europa
2. Mars
3. Titan
4. Enceladus
5. Jupiter - inactive, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1a decepticon destroyed it
- mrjah, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1Yay, another stylish European vehicle.
But is it a turbo diesel?
And if so, does it carry its own oxidizer? - ophello, on 08/18/2008, -3/+4This rover makes the other ones look thrown together. Very slick design.
- tastynuggets, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1When can we start colonization?
- muhadeeb, on 08/19/2008, -0/+1At least it would appear to be a more robust explorer. This is what we need for intensive exploration. I would expect that there might be more ambitious designs and endeavors in the future. They need a longer lasting presence with extras that can do more like more mobility, scaling larger inclines to get in tighter places. I would like to have them land near the "Face on Mars".
- lindstorm, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1Actually, his long lost cousin.
- 3amboo, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1wall-e on steroids
- waydee, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1And as one would expect the European rover effort is far more stylish than its American counterparts, lets hope this one actually makes it. Poor beagle.
Can't help but feel 2013 is a long way off though, just send some humans already. - MrOminous, on 08/18/2008, -2/+2I love that movie.
- AgentBers, on 08/18/2008, -2/+2I wonder how much weight would be saved or available for instruments if they didn't go for the "Martian Mercedes" look.
- GeezerD, on 08/18/2008, -1/+1It's about damn time.
- airmann90, on 08/18/2008, -1/+1exo-Geni, exo-Mars...
- Jimtac, on 08/18/2008, -2/+1Check out the bling rims...
- JoeF8577, on 08/18/2008, -3/+2good thing you pointed that out there partner.
- tkotam, on 08/18/2008, -2/+1Is that you, No. Five??
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -2/+1Why is a mission that will launch in 2013 news? The Mars Science Laboratory is larger, nuclear powered, more capable and launches next year! http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl/mission/sc_rover.html ExoMars is very much a 'me too' imitation of Spirit and Opportunity. How about some originality guys?
- noen, on 08/18/2008, -3/+1Good thing you pointed out that he pointed that out.
- inactive, on 08/18/2008, -6/+1IMO, we should be focusing all our efforts on:
1) A warp drive
2) Getting underneath Titan's surface
