- webkami, on 10/25/2008, -0/+32Kudos Boston for The Big Picture,
always great collection all on one page. - inajeep, on 10/24/2008, -0/+31That is some of the best pics I've seen in a long time. I love the 12 frame roll up that gives you a sense of the speed of the flyby.
- Teksaid, on 10/25/2008, -1/+14Astronomy is simply amazing
- inactive, on 10/25/2008, -0/+12Dugg for being beautiful and enlightening.
- Tychee, on 10/24/2008, -0/+11It looks almost unreal at picture 2, but then again so amazing at pic 26 and 12.
- kinseyincanada, on 10/25/2008, -2/+12im going to be honest here i totally thought, this was about Enchiladas the yummy mexican food.
- consterXnation, on 10/25/2008, -1/+10If I could digg it twice, I would.
- infiniphunk, on 10/25/2008, -0/+7this is the kind of stuff l like seeing on digg
- weston45, on 10/25/2008, -0/+6Enceladus image gallery for all images in their full-rez glory:
http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/multimedia/images/image ... - Spetz, on 10/25/2008, -0/+6Why can't there be more photo galleries like Boston.com's? They are always simply exceptional and no need to do multiple, annoying, click throughs.
- Starks, on 10/25/2008, -1/+6Enceladus is the most beautiful moon in the solar system.
- 13373h4X0r, on 10/25/2008, -1/+5The animated image was really cool.
Seriously, I hope the people at NASA send up an HD video camera to capture more dynamic scenes of stuff. Seeing movement -- like seeing a very clear video from a rover as it drives around the surface of Mars, etc, or seeing the movement of clouds on Jupiter or Saturn, etc -- would be awesome! That's what would make me feel more like I was really there. They already have these great high-resolution snapshots, but showing movement, even if there is some sacrifice of resolution, can often be more compelling and "real" for us. How much more awesome would the animation of that moon approach be if there were more frames?!
I think just a few minutes of HD video of just tooling around the surface of Mars at different times of day would inspire a lot of people to want to go there, to be the FIRST on a NEW WORLD. The concept is so mind-blowing. It would be the first time our species, billions of years in the making, stepped foot on a new planet. Now, don't think I am diminishing the absolutely spectacular achievement of our trips to our Moon. I am simply saying that going to Mars would represent a huge advance for humanity. HD videos of a typical day on Mars, just chilling out, or driving around at a leisurely pace, or zooming through the air or the ground in a more thrilling manner, would be so inspirational. But it has to be at a high frame rate, and it has to be HD quality, to really create the strong impression of BEING there, rather than merely spectating... Oh, and with audio... Ideally, a person could stare at the screen for a while, and get in to a meditative mood, and eventually become convinced at some level that he or she is actually there, maybe looking through a visor or through a window on their cabin. I remember looking at a high-resolution panoramic color image taken by one of the Viking landers on Mars, and because the image was so sharp and big, and because I could display it on a large computer display, I was able to achieve a mental state of imaging myself being there, on the surface of Mars, and I WAS THRILLED.
Now, actually, I'd be scared out of my mind to be 50 million miles away from Earth (or perhaps even 250+ million miles away from Earth!), but experiencing it vicariously would be thrilling... - InnoASatana, on 10/25/2008, -0/+4For some reason the pictures of a moon near Saturn look much clearer and closer than any I've seen from our own moon. Picture 25 is amazing, the position of the biggest crater on the left mixed up with those line patterns make it look kind of like a hand. Nice.
- doublsh0t, on 10/25/2008, -0/+4I keep thinking of the spanish word for salad--ensaladas. they're both pronounced the same way, right? either way, somehow the moon doesn't seem so cool anymore due to this association.
- benighted, on 10/25/2008, -0/+4digg should have a boston section
- ansatsu29, on 10/25/2008, -0/+4I really like Boston.com for their nice pics and for putting all pictures in one, scrollable page.
- hungryduck, on 10/25/2008, -0/+3Saturn?
- OfNumbers, on 10/25/2008, -0/+3Kudos.
- OhTheHumanity1, on 10/25/2008, -0/+3Never before in my life have I seen pictures from space that blew me away with such ferocity. This is literally one of the most incredible things I have ever seen, and I don't say that lightly.
- tpfaff, on 10/25/2008, -0/+3Why are they black and white?
- inactive, on 10/25/2008, -0/+3this is the first time i've seen a photo taken in space, where stars are visible.
- maphilli14, on 10/25/2008, -0/+3Yes, very well arranged!!!
- inactive, on 10/25/2008, -0/+3you haven't seen many photos in that case

- anotherjack, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2Save the Wampas!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoth - cliffzdude, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2Truly awesome. I grew up with the space program as most of us here, but I'm still amazed when I put the concept together that we shoot up a device into outer space, guided successfully to its intended destination - so far away we can't even conceptualize the distance. Then download photos from just 15 miles from a moon orbiting Saturn. Awesome.
- Dystisis, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2The universe is amazing in its brilliantly simplistic complexity.
- inactive, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2Well, shows that space is too damn fascinating to ignore.
- Brassbud, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2It certainly is facinating, but I think I'd give my vote to Io.
- pinstripewizard, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2"Another close flyby is scheduled for Halloween, October 31st." History's first interplanetary toilet papering?
- Sylenus, on 10/25/2008, -4/+6breathtaking
- peterinjapan, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2MY GOD, IT'S FULL OF STARS
- 16777216, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2I believe it is en-sell-uh-dus, not en-sa-lah-das.
- ThraxyWaxy, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2I've been waiting for this my entire life, you don't know how excited I am!
- izolutionz, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2Fascinating... too bad it may end up as a Saturn ring? It's as if it's slowly disintegrating to form the e-ring.
- inactive, on 10/25/2008, -0/+2this is the kind of thing that makes digg worthwhile
- kingbinji, on 10/25/2008, -2/+4***** like this brings back memories of wanting to be an astronaut when i was younger
- Akopley, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1wow you just typed all that.
- jordanisj, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1I wish I could digg this twice.
- InnoASatana, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1Yeah I get that but that's what I precisely don't understand. As boring as it may seem why didn't we HD photograph the ***** out of our own moon first? Might be a dumb question but oh well...
- martinoflewis, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1some of these photos are simply beautiful. convet to atheism, 'cause reality is awesome.
- foxtrot3, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1Fascinating! Great stuff!
- jjidi, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1Thats no moon.....its a SPACE STATION!!
- andrewfahmy, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1for a creepy second there i thought i saw footprints
- Soval, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1Enchiladas?
- Akopley, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1Sometimes i wonder why i have a better camera than NASA.
- WhiskeyThieves, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1Space is cool!
- randomstupid, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1i'm not american but i'd love to give my tax bucks towards more of this
- chaos13037, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1That flyby series of shots (#9) were truly amazing. NASA should do that more often.
- rheaume, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1God I love 'the big picture', keep it going!
