- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -1/+28Merry perihelion day!
We need more articles like this on Digg. Informative and almost instructional. - RScan70, on 01/05/2009, -1/+17for the 10 seconds i could see it before i lost my sight, it was the biggest sun i ever saw.
- funkify33, on 01/05/2009, -0/+9Dugg for the title
- MeatyMcBeef, on 01/05/2009, -0/+8Ok does anyone notice the family guy and pee wee Diggs in the "Related by Keyword" section? Fail Digg. Fail.
- Rolcol, on 01/05/2009, -0/+5I had to explain to my dad that we're actually closer to the sun in the winter than in the summer. I had to go into detail about how the tilt affects the temperature...
- BadAstronomer, on 01/05/2009, -1/+5"Almost"? :-)
- RScan70, on 01/05/2009, -1/+5Proximity of the sun is not the only thing that dictates temperature. Hence us not having the same exact temperature every year on the same day,
- DiggRage, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4It's summer right now on the other half of the world.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4What would this have to do with global warming? It's a cycle that repeats every year. It's not any closer today than it was on January 5th 1809.
- RScan70, on 01/05/2009, -0/+4.....yep. the statistics used to back up global warming generally compare the change over years, decades, even centuries. this would only effect statistics taken on a day to day basis, because by the end of the year, it all averages out.
and its not "so-called global warming". its global warming. - honeybrass, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4I think we should make this our new years day, so it actually has some meaning.
- archiesteel, on 01/05/2009, -1/+4That's because the small difference in distance to the sun has little to do with how warm it is on Earth.
- Junior612, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Dugg for maths
- RScan70, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3"If you ’ve been staring at the Sun lately, then you may have noticed it looks a WEE bit bigger today "
Seriously? Is that the best connection digg could come up with? - vickers500, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Well, we do from our monitors :(
- KibblesnBitts, on 01/05/2009, -1/+3Not as good as the time I saw the Virgin Mary on the Sun
- Rolcol, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Alright. Well...
He didn't believe me right away. He had to think about it for a while.
</buzzkill> - emjaymj, on 01/05/2009, -1/+3Awesome! Tell us more.
- maz2331, on 01/05/2009, -3/+5Diggers don't look at the sun.

it was, we as diggers just took a tad bit too long - honeybrass, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1most of what we do is derived from (what is now anyway) meaningless ritual.
- adamk0310, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1What if the sun blew up? Would you deny that, too?
- RlAA, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2All in favor of changing July 4th from independence day to Aphelion Day, RISE UP AND BE HEARD.
- fattehboi, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1No, it makes your sun look okay.
- pwdrskier, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1it will eat us all
- fireismyflag, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2no wonder it was hot here in the tropic
- inefekt, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1We're doomed! It's going red giant people!!!!
- pwdrskier, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1Hey I learned that elliptical orbit stuff in physics today
- Travelsonic, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1"Today is perihelion, the time when the Earth is closest to the Sun in its orbit."
So that's why I went blind faster than when I usually stare at the sun. - mouthymadness, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1Well, yeah I know that much. I'm not a half wit, I just thought it was pretty weird.
- jsilver123, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1the answer to the question is always no
- robbiedo, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1Stripes are supposed to be slimming. Don't wear spots..
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -1/+1Did you sell it on ebay?
- leesw, on 01/05/2009, -1/+1So...we're closer to the sun during winter? I know the earth tilt affects it but I thought we were closer. Could have sword I had a science teacher say that. Oh well, glad to learn. Wish it would help warm the earth some, it's freakin' freezin' out there! The fact we're closer probably keeps us from freezing to death (an intelligent plan).
- Adam420, on 01/05/2009, -3/+3Too bad its freaking cold here.
- freakstyle571, on 01/05/2009, -1/+1Why don't we do it that way? Don't tell me its just because of the Christian calendar?
- mouthymadness, on 01/05/2009, -1/+1Coldest it has been in a week today, that doesn't make sense.
- frostbyt, on 01/05/2009, -2/+1Further proof that man has no control of the weather.
- Nfed163, on 01/05/2009, -3/+1Why wasnt this article here when the sun was still up?1
- Eondin, on 01/05/2009, -3/+1Wow seeing the sun like this made going blind worth it!
- cdbatty, on 01/05/2009, -5/+1And I thought all this heat was due to the greenhouse effect. Who's going to break the news to Al Gore?
- DarkWhitty, on 01/05/2009, -5/+1and do they take this into account for so called global warming?

What is Digg?
