"There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world."
RIP Carl Sagan - hughwphamill, on 07/15/2009, -1/+6There's no place like home.
- Freeman08, on 07/15/2009, -2/+7Everything in space is beautiful, especially views like these of our only home. I can't wait to see more and more pictures once we return to the moon and ultimately go to Mars.
- borez, on 07/15/2009, -1/+6I would love to see that in real life, even if I had the choice of it being the last thing I ever saw.

- GunWraith, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2Yeah, it's kinda cramped, hot, and magma-ish. Living on it isn't too bad though.
- neonsox, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2Pictures like this are why nobody should have an elitist attitude. You are a grain of sand on a rock suspended in the blackness of space. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

- Arslan70, on 07/16/2009, -1/+2Because Earth and Moon are tidally locked, an Earthrise can not be seen by a stationary observer on the Moon’s surface.
Can anyone tell me what does that mean - DamnLogins, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1The moon essentially always has the same side pointing towards the Earth (it has a slight wobble, but meh!), therefore wherever you are on the moon, if you can see the Earth, it will always be in pretty much the same place in the sky. It wont rise or set.
Earth will appear as a crescent if the moon is further away from the sun than the Earth, or you will get a "full Earth" if the moon is pretty much in a line between the Earth and the sun. - PurpleD423, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1It looks like the star trek logo was shopped out of the picture in the middle. haha
- paloooz, on 07/15/2009, -5/+6I like the part with the crescent.
- Gravedigger3, on 07/16/2009, -1/+1It means that the moon doesn't spin, the same side is always facing earth. So whatever view you have of earth from the moon will remain the same, the crescent effect you see in the pictures can only be seen from the moon as you move further towards the dark side.
At least that's my understanding of it. - Presbyterian, on 07/15/2009, -3/+2Those pictures are amazing, they almost look real.
- Astark, on 07/15/2009, -2/+1I can see my house.
- Presbyterian, on 07/15/2009, -4/+0Not if you live in it.
