reuters.com — Chemical elements observed around a burned-out star known as a white dwarf offer evidence Earth-like planets once orbited it, suggesting that worlds like our own may not be rare in the cosmos, scientists said on Thursday.

Don't get me wrong, I am as glad to see proof of earth-like planets as the next guy, but there are an unfathomable amount of stars with an equally unfathomable amount of planets orbiting them. The odds are far better to find one like our own that to not find any.

I find it hard to understand their logic... at first I just thought it was a troll group... after doing some research I'm actually afraid of their stupidity. You could take these morons into outer space, fly around the planet and they'd still believe the earth is flat and claim it was faked in some sort of simulation.

    Maybe some rocky planets once existed around a burned out star. The article says nothing about water or oxygen or anything other than rock. Nor is there any evidence presented that the rocky elements were ever formed into planets. Maybe they were and maybe they weren't. Why does any of this matter? What is it supposed to prove?
