- chrissku, on 10/10/2008, -3/+56The Chinese space program is real. The Chinese gymnast's just confirmed it.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/10/2008, -3/+52All the astronauts were14 years old.
- BigManOnCampus, on 10/10/2008, -4/+43This is so ridiculous. Why would China fake it? They've got tons of capital, and the U.S. has private companies that can afford to develop entire orbital vehicles and launch systems to put things in orbit.
- poidh, on 10/10/2008, -9/+46China fake something? YOU MUST BE JOKING. THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN.
- SanFranMan, on 10/10/2008, -1/+31You can be sure the U.S. tracked them every step of the way. If it was fake then it would be public knowledge.
- shutaro, on 10/10/2008, -6/+30Conspiracy theories? You say that as if China doesn't have a documented history of faking things...
- Straw, on 10/10/2008, -12/+35I lived in China for a year teaching kindergarten. My co-teachers (Chinese) would do artwork for some kids to take home so it'd look like they did it by themselves. The Chinese seem to fake everything, even airplanes. Now, space walks.
Totally believable. - vondrak, on 10/09/2008, -2/+19retracted!
Yes you're definitely right there is much more to the article.
I know it s copout but I'm going to blame my work computer for now fully loading the page. There was nothing past the video, which wouldn't load either.
If I could unbury this I would, sorry. - MeatyMcBeef, on 10/10/2008, -5/+20My ex is the only entity that has a longer history of faking things than China.
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -1/+15And the Chinese gymnasts' passports are real, the Chinese astronauts just confirmed it.
- mgmirkin, on 10/09/2008, -1/+15Read past the inline google ad. The article is more than 2 paragraphs long... *Sigh* It definitely DOES go into whether or not the two pieces of "evidence" for "fakery" are legitimate or not. (Not.)
Dugg as NOT SPAM... - angryfirelord, on 10/10/2008, -1/+12Google cache: http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:kEpHKZLostgJ: ...
- BXRWXR, on 10/10/2008, -14/+24Herro Prease!
- ThetaDot, on 10/10/2008, -0/+10I don't think it was faked.
Congratulations to China. - Tcasey0478, on 10/10/2008, -2/+12Wow, the Chinese government must have gotten to the page!
- directive0, on 10/10/2008, -3/+12Do I think launching a vehicle into earth orbit and taking a video of an astronaut in space is outside the abilities of the Chinese space program, to the point where they would risk losing face internationally by trying to fake it? No, not really.
- kanabiis, on 10/10/2008, -1/+10Well I am certainly glad you are not helping develop our space technologies...
Ever heard of a Comet? huge chunks of Ice flying through space...
Maybe you might be familiar with Apollo 13.... one of the biggest concerns regarding them shutting down most of the devices to conserve energy for them to return to earth after the disastrous explosion was condensation freezing up on the outside of the lunar module resulting in either a misfire, or no fire of the thrusters.
Or perhaps you might have heard of the rings around Saturn, mostly comprised of well, Ice....
But maybe its magic Ice...... yea thats it, magic space ice....
Jesus.... did you just not show up for science class or something??
- SidewinderX2, on 10/10/2008, -1/+10Hey guys! How about, instead of spending time on Digg to say "OMG THEY FAKED IT", you spend some time to write a letter to your congressmen/senator to ask them to increase funding for NASA? At least that way we can still be ahead in space technology for a few more years...
- Jibberish, on 10/10/2008, -0/+8Wow... Seriously? You think they faked it? Obviously you have no idea the amount of coordination it takes from different countries to put something up in space. The U.S. Government/Air-Force tracks thousands of useless discarded objects or "space trash" (not to mention all of the artificial satellites flying around) to make sure that nothing up there collides and causes problems. So they spend all that time tracking useless stuff, but fail to report on a very important spacecraft that is seemingly missing from the sky? I think not... :)
- bbtweb, on 10/10/2008, -3/+11If the US and Russia did it in the 1950s, then almost 60 years later it's almost certain that China actually can do it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -2/+10So the US faking the moon mission in the 60's is a totally laughable, crazy idea.
China faking a space walk in 2008 is a reasonable theory.
Welcome to digg. - DracoFlameus, on 10/10/2008, -3/+11Oh please, it's the 21st century, there are even private persons/companies working on commercial space flights nowadays. There is really no need for them to fake that because frankly, it doesn't mean much and I assume they know that as good as we do. Even when they land on the moon, they are just copying something from 40(!) years ago.
Faking a Mars landing, yeah that would make some sense, but everything less just isn't worth it. - Meccabilly, on 10/10/2008, -0/+6u did catch myth busters didn't you? The laser test was pretty conclusive.
- morningmatters, on 10/10/2008, -0/+6Sheesh, evidence from Epoch Times is about as reliable as News of the World, that would be one step below the National Enquirer.
The best way to prove this one way or the other would be to have some sort of space summit. The Chinese astronauts should go over to the US/USSR station. But even if this happens people will still say NASA colluded with Chinese and Russian governments. - sealink, on 10/10/2008, -6/+12Congratulations on being both ignorant AND racist.
- eeron, on 10/09/2008, -3/+8Did you read the article? It goes into the possible "bubbles", reflection on Zhai's wrist mirror, the lack of stars.... have a read again and tell me it says nothing about it being faked.
I think you need to know what "spam" is, here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_(food) yummy - brewer, on 10/10/2008, -0/+5Bad Astronomy debunked this already. No faking.
- Dymphna, on 10/10/2008, -2/+7Because China is the only country to ever fake anything, right?
I say this is as bogus as people claiming the US moon landing was fake, people need to get over their conspiracy theories - TheTaoOfBill, on 10/10/2008, -6/+10Herro Prease. What is the pran to take over America again? I forgot!
- BXRWXR, on 10/10/2008, -4/+8an
- originaldna, on 10/10/2008, -2/+6Don't you know Chinese are closer to Africans then any other race on the planet, one of the plus for that is that they age like Africans, very slow.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/183392.s ...
I'm 35 and i look like i'm 22 , my white friends my age look like they are in there mid 40's
thanks to that African melanin. - DubiousDrewski, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4Really now, I wish people would stop believing that tripe. Look at all the evidence, look at everything that happened. We went to the moon. I've seen all the points people bring up to prove the hoax, and every one of those points is easily shot down with sound logic.
Just stop it already, people. - ambivalent, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4If they has faked it they went really far. So far as to keep the US government and other governments quiet about it. Everything that gets in to orbit that is bigger than a golf ball is tracked by various agencies. Any launch of this kind would have been tracked by a myriad of different monitoring stations around the globe. If it didn't happen these agencies would surely have mentioned it.
I say this because it is popular to hate China and bash them due to their human rights records. The rest of the world is eager to shame them so it would have definitely have come out if no one saw their orbital vehicle make it to space.
Also, if you can get a vehicle in orbit then I suspect that making a space suit and doing a spacewalk is simple by comparison.
My 2 cents. - AndrewMoyer, on 10/10/2008, -1/+5http://www.instantrimshot.com/
- Sepeteus, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_rock
- Philophobic, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4So, comets are large enough to hold themselves together by their gravity?
- RajAtWork, on 10/10/2008, -0/+460s not 50s. First ever spacewalk by Russians in 1965.
- waydee, on 10/10/2008, -0/+4Just threatened American conspiracy *****, buried.
- DeFex, on 10/10/2008, -1/+4Should have gone to MASA they would do it for $200
- 1hrSleep, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3@Insllvn: I think you missed.
- HeyArnold, on 10/10/2008, -1/+4this just in:
no one's actually been to space, its all a sham.
oh and the world is flat too. - idontlikeyou2, on 10/10/2008, -2/+5I am sure that the Chinese would have some "contingency footage" incase something goes haywire. The only thing they care about is their own image to sell it back at home
- SanFranMan, on 10/10/2008, -2/+5Because Digg is flooded with conspiracy theory fans. It makes them feel wiser than they really are.
- rmxz, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3If they faked it, that's even more impressive than if they actually did it. Think about it. Plenty of guys already flew in space, but noone - noone - pulled off a fake of that magnitude yet.
- MilfordCubicle, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3collagen and elastin....not melanin...melanin is just a pigment...collagen and elastin are the compounds you're thinking of. Africans and Asians have a ton more of each in their skin than caucasians.
you know what they say...."black don't crack" - markperia, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3Cause its easier to assume that we're better than them and that they couldn't do it and that they faked it rather than spend time improving our own and maintaining our lead?
America is always the best! /s - DubiousDrewski, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3It wasn't fake. Stop believing that. Give me your number one reason for believing it was fake and I'll shoot it down.
Really, try it. - Awspire, on 10/10/2008, -3/+6CHASA the Chinese knock-off.
- luke16, on 10/10/2008, -1/+43:56, Was that a bubble? Debris perhaps?
