- cywar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Why don't more people find this interesting?
I guess the fact that "all this madness" we call life, taking place on a little ball in the vast universe, doesn't interest them. - Wonderkind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I never paid much attention until we had a total black-out and the sky was FILLED with visible stars. Without all the glare and reflected light, there was nothing to obscure the view.
I must have seen a dozen meteors in an hour, and have since been hooked.
Some people don't know what they are missing, I guess - dotspace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"made popular 2 hours 42 minutes ago"
Made popular right about the time the sun came up. OK. - exoendo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7...yes
- PATSCRU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7***** it already happened.
- jggr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Indeed... Noticed this and said, "hey, I should go outside and see...", then I look outside and see the sun is already up.
sigh... Nothing fun ever happens on the night shift. ;) - fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4How many minutes is it from now?
- HeidiLore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Light pollution makes it nearly impossible to view astronomical items of note.
- MarkCiccone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32:00 EST on Sunday morning? So late tonight?
I love showers, anyone thinking about looking should do it! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'll be out there tonight weather permitting. It doesn't look too promising at the moment but I'm going to try anyway.
- drafhk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So now we can expect a real life Venom, right?
- Lumbeekid06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i didnt see nuffin............that might be the fact that it happened 2 hours ago
- LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3From experience, it seems that Digg's userbase just isn't very interested in astronomy. Even the comments in astronomy-related submissions are dumber than the average.
- Shneebly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1couldn't really see anything in NY. the full moon was too bright...i saw 5 shooting stars otherwise, but i think they were unrelated
- exoendo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Unrelated to the topic at hand...
Naturally I am happy the story I submitted got homepaged, but I must ask how its' possible considering it was out of the que for seven hours. Thought after the 24 hour mark things were dead. Interesting . . . you learn something new everyday. - LatiosFalls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Meteors are a funny thing. It's very often cloudy or the full moon is out, or you're too close to a city. Or the meteor shower doesn't happen the way it was expected.
But, leave yourself open to it and take a chance, go out when they're around.. Do that and when you do eventually see one (or even a single bright shooting star) - next year, five or twenty years from now - it will be something you'll keep with you for a long time. - ipodman715, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dang, it's cloudy here in Maryland.
- DrScott, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's about nine pm for EST tonight, the sixth. Sweet, I can watch the comet go by between the Simpsons and Family Guy.
- iamjaredc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no. sadly, you weren't.
- acdcfanbill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1cloudy and rainy in south dakota :(
- Anifanatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wait wait wait. "he best chance of catching these is around 0200 local time." ... Local time? Uhh... Can they be a bit more specific?
- cywar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Texas==>Lots of clouds and lightning before dawn..........maybe next time.
I hope some people got to see it. - iaglu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thank you for sharing that historical fact with us.
- noonions, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0just to clarify, the comet itself isn't going to be visible, just really old debris from it. If you're interested in meteor showers and other things of interest in the night sky, i reccomend subscribing to the What's Up in Astronomy podcast at http://feeds.feedburner.com/astropodcast. Thats my shameless plug.
- hamz01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i commented on a different story but digg put it on this one so ignore this...
- bightchee, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Am I the only one who at first glance keeps reading this as "Bill Haley & his Comets...."?

What is Digg?
