- TonyStark, on 10/23/2008, -1/+28John McCain thinks this is an overhead projector.
- jpowlus, on 10/22/2008, -0/+17Excellent article! Now I just wish I lived close enough to go see it...
- CoreyHalliwell, on 10/23/2008, -1/+16Plane-Arium!
- pintomp3, on 10/23/2008, -0/+14that projector must have cost more than $3 million.
- MAGZine, on 10/23/2008, -2/+148800sq ft Rick Roll, anyone?
- rdldr1, on 10/23/2008, -1/+12McCain is anti-planetariums. Overhead projector my ass.
- flessa, on 10/23/2008, -0/+10kickass article, i seriously want to visit this planetarium. roadtrip anyone?
- keithloughnane, on 10/23/2008, -0/+9I don't care what McCain says, some projectors are 3-Million-dollar cool!
- inactive, on 10/23/2008, -0/+8When's laser Floyd?
- nugx, on 10/23/2008, -1/+8Don't tell McCain!
- willski, on 10/22/2008, -0/+7It's pretty unbelievable. Almost looks 3D when you're sitting in the seats leaning back, and the sound is like an IMAX theater.
- norman, on 10/23/2008, -0/+6doing the math...8800 sq feet of screen real estate. that's a lot!
- Fetttson, on 10/23/2008, -0/+6But can it play Crysis?
- tschau, on 10/23/2008, -1/+6buuuut... does this planetarium have a 3 million dollar projector?
- antdude, on 10/23/2008, -0/+5Vacation trip? :D
- fuzed, on 10/23/2008, -0/+5The whole Academy is awesome. Directly across from the planetarium is a self contained rain forest exhibit like no other and an aquarium that's just spectacular. If you are ever in San Francisco, this is a must visit!
- stinkipete, on 10/23/2008, -0/+4awww lighten up mardy arse.
- zimok, on 10/23/2008, -0/+4Quake?... What about Crysis?
- PabloIV, on 10/23/2008, -0/+3Is this in San Francisco?
I'm planning a vacation for early next year and this might just be the clincher. - CyclonusRIP, on 10/23/2008, -1/+3IMO it's pretty impressive we can build one of those things for 20 mil. If we spent out Iraq budget on planetariums Iraq could have 500 planetariums a month. A much better alternative. How can you hate America if they gave you your very own planetarium.
- Wopasaurus, on 10/23/2008, -0/+2God dammit. :) I was totally going to say that.
- CoreyHalliwell, on 10/23/2008, -0/+2*sigh* it just doesn't have the same effect it did 10 years ago...
- fyre2012, on 10/23/2008, -1/+3Plane - arium
- TheReighnMan, on 10/23/2008, -0/+2It's already been covered on the above comments, but all I think of is that South Park episode when I hear planetarium.
- b0rg, on 10/23/2008, -0/+2I've been in a similar theater once. Amazing perspective, completely unlike even imax. think of sitting on the hood of a car and you get the idea.
I got a few minutes talking with their engineer. He said one of the biggest pains was keeping all the projectors matched for color, intensity, and alignment. If you've ever done convergence on a CRT, you've got the idea. - leland1, on 10/23/2008, -0/+2The California Academy of Sciences is in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park; here's their website:

- ang48137, on 10/23/2008, -0/+2I'm going to be in San Francisco this weekend. I will definitely have to check this out!!
- jbella, on 10/23/2008, -0/+2Every 3rd thursday of the month is free to the public.
Though you might want to wait until the furor dies down a bit. I was there last weekend and the lines were crazy! - honeybrass, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1So thats how stars are made, computers and projectors! And all this time I thought it was gravity or something, proves me wrong,
- AtraNoxVII, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1Quake 4 came out in 2005, so in 3 years they haven't realized how late they are and they're labeled as Maximum PC?
Also they knew the quote they said "But before you can ask, yes it can play etc," so they knew what to say they just messed up the game like nubs. - borez, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1Right... where can I plug in my PS3
- alphaeno, on 10/23/2008, -1/+2I was here 2 weeks ago, but didn't want to pay the $25 to get in. I shall be going back to view this, its worth it.
- sugablonde, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1that looks exactly like the Omnimax in Cincinnati, OH. Except, they play movies (not hollywood movies but national geographic type movies) and they. are. amazing.

- Olfster, on 10/23/2008, -0/+1I bet McCain is thinking, "Darn, kids and their projectors!" Very cool stuff. We need much more funding for science education in order to foster interest in the sciences.
- chewties, on 10/23/2008, -2/+2I love planet.ariums
- JetMike, on 10/23/2008, -1/+1Come visit the Planet...arium.
- inactive, on 10/23/2008, -2/+2Darn those journalists for having lives...
- matthewg42, on 10/23/2008, -0/+0I'd love to see Stellarium http://stellarium.org/ running on that baby.
- Remelox, on 10/23/2008, -0/+0"I used to hang out with my friends on the weekend but now my parents make me go to the planetarium. God damn Americans!"
- carabou, on 10/23/2008, -2/+1Sweet! but like the above statement said... "get a glass ceiling"
- notfromoklahoma, on 10/23/2008, -3/+1That projector was for the country's (maybe world's, I don't remember) first planetarium, and $3 million is chump change compared to our overspending on the Pentagon. Get your head out of the sand.
- AtraNoxVII, on 10/23/2008, -5/+2Can it play Quake?
Thumbs up for keeping your eye out on the latest internet phrases, Quake was how many years ago? - inactive, on 10/23/2008, -5/+0AMAZING FOTO ! - http://visualunique.com/topolm.html
