- Royal0rleans, on 01/25/2008, -4/+22Just when I was thinking that the 20 or so articles on the exact same subject were not enough...thanks.

Some say the end is near. Some say we'll see armageddon soon.I certainly hope we will cuz I sure could use a vacation from this
Silly *****, stupid *****...
One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.
Learn to swim. - inactive, on 01/25/2008, -0/+6Feeling a bit blue, are we ?
- wilcox1010, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6It's really the mothership to take away the Scientology aliens.
- afterthoughtCA, on 01/25/2008, -3/+7misanthrope.
- keyme, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4Did digg just kill a NASA site?
Anyway, mirror please. - kazersoza, on 01/25/2008, -1/+5I, for one, welcome our new roid overlords.
- GhostyBoy, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4Most ill informed post I've read all day.
- palehorse864, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Just in case it does pass too close for comfort, I suggest we send up a triangular ship to break it into tinier pieces and then break those pieces into tinier pieces until it disappears.
- hydrodev, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3why? Im pretty sure hes not going to take it back when it does. You say that as if he does not mean it.
- FaraFiro, on 01/25/2008, -1/+4Prediction: The next "Heaven's Gate" cult will be planning to hitch a ride...
- jgzman, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3In which case you wouldn't be stuck in a post-impact wasteland at all.
- ostracize, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2I guess NASA doesn't have as much bandwidth as we all thought they did.
Mirror anyone? - spider418, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Wow, the irony is almost worth the extinction of the human species...
- Lunarbunny, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Yup, although I haven't used it for ages and I still need an equatorial mount.
- KaiUno, on 01/25/2008, -1/+3Now THAT would really take care of the eh... spotlighted church of the week we shan't name.
- wilcox1010, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2lol!
- TheSkinsFactory, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Unless it fell on your house.

- Ryan2845, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Yes.
- Hockey13, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Couldn't you link us to the actual story?
http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news157.html - Typhoon2009, on 01/25/2008, -3/+51) It's not passing that close... relatively speaking yes but it's not a threat
2) There are tons of other NEOs near earth (as the acronym NEO would suggest)
3) Even if it did hit us you probably wouldn't be stuck in a post-impact wasteland for long - WhoDoneIt, on 01/25/2008, -1/+3Hopefully Tom Cruise can hop on and get the ***** off this planet.
- Zetsubou, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2It took me so long to get that picture open.

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/1573/2007tu24rv ... - Navicerts, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Aw come on it's still a fair assessment, for him to think that people who want the earth to end are misguided and will change their tune if it happens.
Hes wrong by the way, dead wrong. - jgzman, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Likewise.
- tman84, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be. - SnuKs, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2That's the most emo comment i've heard all day..
- Navicerts, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2It said "moderate" telescope, I would think a lot of people own one. My brother-in-law is one off those people as an example, but the only one i could think of off hand.
- MasterThief117, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2News flash: The Church of Scientology sues the asteroid for stealing its media.
- swizzcheez, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1It's an asteroid, prepare for the vampires.

Learn to swim. - darthom, on 01/26/2008, -0/+1Close? Near miss? Not. A near miss occurs when you open your eyes and the doctor standing over you with little paddles in his hands is saying 'clear?'.
- swrostmore, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Dugg, because article doesn't include panicky speculation about scientifically dubious disasters.
- swizzcheez, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Even if it did, I'm not sure it would be much of an issue, at least from a global perspective. Using http://www.lpl.arizona.edu/impacteffects/ , and plugging in some sample data and guesses based on the article, you'd have to be within a couple of hundred miles to be affected much at all, even if it were made of iron (which is unclear) and it slammed into crystaline strata.
Of course, those are totally amateur guesses (regarding the input data). Reality could be something entirely different. - hydrodev, on 01/25/2008, -2/+3Humanity does suck. Especially the humans with hope.
