pressure isn't a problem? aside from what low pressure does to any water... i think i just expected it would be.

- schroderr224, on 06/05/2008, -0/+8Well of course not. Their sun isn't as cool as ours.
- FadieZ, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2I tied up and gagged Captain Obvious for you, my liege.
- stickywheelz, on 06/05/2008, -0/+3Looks just like Beggar's Canyon back home! !
- Recluse, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2Wow its so tiny, but it is farther away so I guess that shouldn't surprise me.

- gavinhudson, on 06/04/2008, -9/+159I'm all for space exploration, but I have to say that it doesn't look nearly as beautiful (or hospitable) as our home planet. Let's keep our home nice, eh?
- chandan333, on 06/04/2008, -1/+24yes, Nothing can beat Earth when it comes to beauty in this whole universe(YET).

- winnestow, on 06/04/2008, -5/+3www.privilegedplanet.com
- gmprunner, on 06/04/2008, -9/+13I'm speculating that part of the reason why that sunset doesn't look as beautiful is our is because Mars doesn't have so much dirty air to light up and change colors in.
- jhai, on 06/05/2008, -1/+5I don't know why you've been dug down, because you're partially correct.
Dugg up.
- jhai, on 06/05/2008, -1/+5I don't know why you've been dug down, because you're partially correct.
- lebruf, on 06/04/2008, -1/+5The sun looks tiny on that horizon due to the distance... I'm guessing that the sunsets look pretty much cooler on Venus and Mercury, and way worse on the non-planet Pluto
- cronot, on 06/05/2008, -1/+2No, I think that's just an artifact of photography, or rather an optical illusion we get when we look at the sun with our own eyes. If you take a picture of the sun (or the moon) from earth, the sun will seem relatively smaller in the picture than when you see it with your own eyes. Same here. I guess that if you saw the sun with your own eyes from the surface of mars, it would seem to you that the sun is only slightly smaller than from earth (or not really - since there's so much dust on mars' atmosphere, there would be more scattered light, so the sun probably would look either the same size as on earth or may be even slightly bigger).
- EBFoxbat, on 06/04/2008, -1/+4It never occurred to me that it would be so small. It's kinda of lonely. I don't think I want to go there any more.
- DigitusAnonymus, on 06/05/2008, -6/+1I come from a planet where people ***** chocolate-flavored rainbows.
- Karmavs, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2go back please
- moomincharlie, on 06/05/2008, -2/+2it makes me feel a little bit sad, that even though i know space exploratory is important, i wish more more time and effort were spent looking after *our planet* rather than exploring others?
- yuanzhoulu, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1sooner or later our planet will be engulfed. yeah, it's in a couple thousand million years or more but we need to begin understanding space technology to know how to get elsewhere when the time comes.
sure, it's not the priority, but doesn't mean it shouldn't also be done on the side. only then will we, in a billion years, actually have a civilisation set up elsewhere in another solar system.
first step at a time -- understand another planet. - Metasquares, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2ALWAYS HAVE BACKUPS.
- yuanzhoulu, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1sooner or later our planet will be engulfed. yeah, it's in a couple thousand million years or more but we need to begin understanding space technology to know how to get elsewhere when the time comes.
- twrife, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2Sunsets look better here because of the pollution particles in the atmosphere, or so I've always been told.
- directive0, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1Sunsets on Earth look beautiful to us because we are adapted to life in it's unique environment. I'm sure a sentient Martian (if they do/did exist) would see this or something similar as beautiful, and our Terran sunsets would be "too blue" or "not hazy" enough or something.
- xonkonog, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2Its beauty is in its simplicity.
- chandan333, on 06/04/2008, -1/+24yes, Nothing can beat Earth when it comes to beauty in this whole universe(YET).
- SirPopper, on 06/04/2008, -9/+2Yeah I felt it, as I have looked at the picture and I have thought huh I am on Mars how is the sunset.
It is a lil dark there, we need a lot lighter!- cmscott, on 06/04/2008, -0/+9wat
- tainc, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I'll get right on that.

- FujiwaraTofu, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2It's three years.
- helloluke, on 06/04/2008, -15/+0the Phoenix twitter said that mars is further away from the earth than the sun... that is some LONG distance sunset
- prophet513, on 06/04/2008, -8/+66If we had two suns it would look like Tatooine
- floridiot2, on 06/04/2008, -1/+8So that's where they filmed Star Wars.

- Ricaud, on 06/04/2008, -3/+66The sun looks amazingly little
- Rewebbed, on 06/04/2008, -2/+14That is because Mars is 36 million miles further away from the sun than earth. and that is on a good day.
- jake86, on 06/04/2008, -2/+3But Mars has a lot more radiation.
You'll still get that golden complexion.- MuskokasFinest, on 06/05/2008, -1/+1And then some...
- ophello, on 06/05/2008, -2/+2radiation? are you serious?
- Rewebbed, on 06/05/2008, -2/+0However radiation does not turn cook you from the outside, but from the inside.
- Sabretou, on 06/05/2008, -0/+3Yeah, well take a trip to Mercury. It's all sun all day all the time.
- Virgule, on 06/05/2008, -0/+3then there is cake
- Rewebbed, on 06/05/2008, -1/+1That is not entirely true. Unlike Earth, Mercury does not rotate on its x-axis. nor its y for that matter. One side never sees the sun. Make sure your tickets say you are going to the sun side, or if you're american, ask for a refund.
- heavystone, on 06/05/2008, -2/+1Yes...distance does that to things....
- JClarksondd, on 06/04/2008, -6/+14The sun looks so small

- wigginz, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2Excellent pic, one of my favorites. Was my #1 favorite until I saw the pic the MRO took of the Phoenix sitting on the surface with it's solar panels deployed. For some reason that is just an amazing picture, can we even do that with that resolution on Earth? The MarsPhoenix Twitter feed uses it as the background. NASA really did something special with the coordination of the MRO and Phoenix on descent and after it landed.

- MillionsLivio, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1I'm simply stating how I the picture made me feel. The image has a nihilistic aura, it has a feeling of emptiness. I'm sorry that I didn't say "it's creepy" or some other pathetically redundant comment; I'm rather sure I know how to define my own feelings.
