A Map of the First Moonwalk (PIC)
strangemaps.wordpress.com — A map of the first moonwalk (as in Neal & Buzz, not Michael) laid out over a soccer pitch for scale.
- 1954 diggs
- digg it
- shitdigga, on 03/25/2008, -3/+84A great map, those guys had BALLS.
- souljaboytellem, on 03/25/2008, -2/+9I would hope so
- thcobbs, on 03/25/2008, -3/+3You mean they aren't Unix?

- wellyuk, on 03/25/2008, -2/+5Please, please, PLEASE get a new phrase.
- Zaeboes, on 03/26/2008, -2/+2You too.

- narcofiche, on 03/25/2008, -7/+3Here's the first moonwalk on the earth -- the direct cause of the time change.
http://www.bananafichebones.com/i/earthwalk.gif - DarkDx, on 03/25/2008, -1/+1Do they really count in zero gravitY? :P
- mattsegal, on 03/25/2008, -2/+2BALLS
- JettaMan, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2For some reason I thought they walked farther, like kilometers maybe. They really stayed close to home.
- robnab, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3It states"US Geological survey" shouldn't that be " US Selenogical survey"? Geo meaning Earth 'n all.
Looks like Armstrong was defending throughout most of game, only one foray into home teams penalty area, what was the score anyway? - jjremy, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3I would hope they had balls. Or that soccer pitch they landed on would have totally gone to waste.
- psid8, on 03/25/2008, -2/+0How so? Wouldn't you want to walk on the moon if you had the chance?
- souljaboytellem, on 03/25/2008, -2/+9I would hope so
- rexona, on 03/25/2008, -5/+15Wicked for two reasons: amazing map of what they did and that Beckham now has a new 'play'!
- hammburglar, on 03/25/2008, -1/+3ah so it wasnt done on a sound stage on mars. it was a sound state at wembley. man they sure fooled me.
- buddamus, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2I was hoping for Michael Jackson type moonwalk
- MikeonTV, on 03/25/2008, -16/+6They didn't mention that they had "Smooth Criminal" on repeat the whole time!
- sc0rpi0n, on 03/25/2008, -2/+107Armstrong was running like crazy. :D Why didn't he shoot the ball? The goalie wasn't there, and his opponent Aldrin was at the other side of the field.
- Grova, on 03/25/2008, -11/+21I was walking around like that the other night and got arrested for drunk and disorderly.
- j0hnb, on 03/25/2008, -8/+5It was loading slow for me. Mirror to be safe:
http://www.prettyoblivion.com/moonwalk.html - finalcloud33, on 03/25/2008, -5/+95why the hell is it on a soccer field?
/as I type I realize its for size comaparison.....
I fail- airwalkery2k, on 03/25/2008, -1/+56Of course, it's the proof that the moon landing was not real, but instead was staged on an indoor soccer field in Norway. I know the facts, because some man on the street told me it while waving his picket sign at me.
- hiPpymIck, on 03/25/2008, -1/+5baseball diamond version ..apparently slightly different according to the comments
FTA
"In the baseball version, the Pan 5 cam is shown quite a bit farther away from the LM than in the football (soccer) pitch version, and the path that Armstrong took appears to be more direct. I wonder why the two are different, and which (if either) is correct."
http://history.nasa.gov/alsj/a11/A11vsMLB.gif- mahler, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1He was probably tackled at the 16-meter area and got to take a penalty.
On the baseball field, he tried to catch a long ball. - Agger, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1If that size was correct baseball pitches would be small...
- mahler, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1He was probably tackled at the 16-meter area and got to take a penalty.
- Rotzooi, on 03/25/2008, -1/+8Dugg for the autofail.

- Atxguitarist, on 03/25/2008, -2/+3epic fail
- HawkeyeMatt, on 03/25/2008, -0/+5It was a soccer field on mars.
- theysayjump, on 03/26/2008, -1/+3*Football.
Even NASA called it Football.
- mrmrok, on 03/25/2008, -4/+47I thought it was going to be a Michael Jackson tutorial :/
- ahoyhoy, on 03/25/2008, -2/+1I was hoping for a full map of the SNES game Moonwalker.

- robalesi, on 03/25/2008, -11/+2I like this one better - http://www.moblog.com.sg/blog/iLLers/img/7CE1835B- ...
- gthyb, on 03/25/2008, -3/+39I'm so confused. I only measure distances in American football fields.
- Jun1obcx, on 03/25/2008, -1/+1Neither does all the world
- zyryx, on 03/26/2008, -1/+2majority rules, right? democracy? well the majority of the world watches the real football, unlike we moron americans. I was ecstatic to see a real football pitch used for scale
- ControlcChris, on 03/25/2008, -14/+2I thought it was a penis..... uhhh
- Happytired, on 03/25/2008, -19/+3Next, I want to see a pic of their footsteps and the flag taken from Earth.
- Daz3, on 03/25/2008, -1/+5It is a ridiculous application of logic to entertain the possibility that they did not actually travel to the moon given all the evidence.
- meropealcyone, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2What would that prove? The conspiracy theorists - and by theorists I mean morons - would just claim the pictures were fake. There are simple optical reasons concerning the ability of scopes to resolve distant objects that prevent this right now. The next generation of terrestrial scopes will likely approach that capability, as will the coming Lunar orbiters. I hope NASA doesn't waste their time on photographing the sites just to counter a few idiots' claims.
- shadowkin, on 03/25/2008, -1/+15http://history.nasa.gov/alsj/a11/A11vsFootball.gif
Actual image on NASA server. - NasKa, on 03/25/2008, -13/+1How did camera get there?
- Nothlit, on 03/25/2008, -0/+8...they carried it out with them when they exited the lunar module?
- SSCrow, on 03/25/2008, -4/+2It was filmed in a studio, DUH!
- tacojohn, on 03/25/2008, -1/+9Had to believe we've never been anywhere since...almost 40 years and we haven't been back to somewhere else- what the hell!?!?
- thedogfatherx, on 03/25/2008, -10/+4There is no need. It would be pointless to go back to the moon right now and risk human life.
- RogerStrong, on 03/25/2008, -3/+7By the same logic, it was pointless to visit the new world after Columbus, and pointless to fly after the Wright Brothers.
- lotsa1s, on 03/25/2008, -5/+3No, there is literally less scientific gain from going to the moon then there is from just shooting someone into space. The next big thing for the Moon will be a colony, and that is a long way off regardless of how you look at it.
- Daz3, on 03/25/2008, -5/+4No, there is nothing interesting on the moon. No scientific gains to be made and nothing interesting to find. Flying is still useful for traveling.
- RogerStrong, on 03/25/2008, -1/+8Plenty of interesting science from the first visits - including how the moon was formed. There's plenty to come - geology, radio astronomy, etc.
But if we want a base or a colony, it will ALWAYS be "a long way off", until we actually practice working there. Colonies in the new world were once "a long way off", after Columbus's voyage, involving an epic ocean crossing that was science fiction just a few years earlier. More trips led to better ships and better seamanship and more exploration and more practice living there, and eventually it was reasonable to send a colony.
And when the Wright Brothers first flew, flying was NOT useful for travelling - not even remotely. Not for cargo, or any other near-term use. One of the Wright Brothers *died* in a flight. The first passenger ever carried also didn't survive the trip.
Had humanity shrugged and said "forget it, it's a long way off", flying still wouldn't be useful.
- RogerStrong, on 03/25/2008, -3/+7By the same logic, it was pointless to visit the new world after Columbus, and pointless to fly after the Wright Brothers.
- AdamSnow, on 03/25/2008, -5/+1 < conspiracy> Or maybe we were never there in the first place ............ < /conspiracy>
- qwertydvorak, on 03/25/2008, -0/+6For millions of years, man thought the moon was made of cheese.
In 1969, we finally made it to the moon and discovered it was solid rock.
We have not returned since.
Behold, the Power of Cheese.- Zaeboes, on 03/26/2008, -2/+0For millions of years, the word and even concept of "Cheese" didn't exist.
- Fergy, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1For millions of years, man did not exist.
- thedogfatherx, on 03/25/2008, -10/+4There is no need. It would be pointless to go back to the moon right now and risk human life.
- HaSatan, on 03/25/2008, -24/+2In unrelated trivia....there are movie sound stages that are as big as soccer fields....
- Liamrichie, on 03/25/2008, -13/+1beat me to it
- erad222, on 03/25/2008, -0/+10Oh God, I hope you both are being sarcastic.
- Daz3, on 03/25/2008, -1/+4You aren't wrong when you say 'unrelated'.
- Liamrichie, on 03/25/2008, -13/+1beat me to it
- schizogony, on 03/25/2008, -1/+26Not real. I see no stars in that map.
- fwertz, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Yeah, and the flag material is erect. We all know there is no wind on the internet.
- Spoomeister, on 03/25/2008, -2/+32Shouldn't it just be a straight line backwards?
- Tigerbot5, on 03/25/2008, -1/+2Well done

- erad222, on 03/25/2008, -2/+3My failure may be worse because I used the wrong form of "your".

- AceKicker, on 03/25/2008, -1/+5For all you Not-Smart people, here's a little something ya need to read before you start blurting out that the "moon landing was fake"...
http://www.lunaranomalies.com/fake-moon.htm
Seriously though... it's as if you guys just hear some off the wall theory, don't check any of the facts, and just jump on the band wagon.- NuclearDruid, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3Normally I wouldn't, but the fact that we brought back moon rocks, hundreds and hundreds of moon rocks, and distributed them among the science community/professors, etc. (Even internationally to other countries) Kind of proves something. They were never identified as just another rock from earth. No matter how much you nit pick the photographs, it really did happen... more than once.
- scotteth, on 03/25/2008, -7/+0at first, i thought it was going to be a map involving michael jackson.
- justz00t, on 03/25/2008, -2/+11Armstrong comes strong up the field from the left, Aldrin lagging far behind!

- karolisonline, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1well it makes sense, if moon walk was shot in UK and UK is footbals country #1 in Europe.. yes it really makes sense to compare walk area with football field...
- Exekutor, on 03/25/2008, -0/+5Dugg for calling football a game that's actually played with the feet.
