- lnw4151, on 11/12/2008, -0/+20I was sad to hear of the mission's end but proud that it lasted as long as it did. It's nice to see NASA doing things right.
- dipout, on 11/12/2008, -1/+11aliens or it didn't happen
- thatsgoodkarma, on 11/12/2008, -1/+7R.I.P. Phoenix
- neasteflorin, on 11/12/2008, -1/+7Another amazing pic from NASA.
- elanthedon, on 11/12/2008, -2/+7holy cow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thats crazy!
- Suzilla, on 11/12/2008, -0/+4Launching RTGs into space has, believe it or not, diplomatic ramifications. The deep-space probes, such as Gallileo and Cassini have RTGs on board which MAY come under the jurisdiction of various non-weaponization-of-space treaties and so exceptions have to be negotiated before these can be launched. Thanks to BushCo, the other interested nations -- particularly Russia -- probably aren't interested in being easy-going when it comes to us launching a nuclear device into space -- however harmless or peaceful its purpose may be.
- casspa, on 11/12/2008, -1/+4Exposed icy patches!
- ncc74656m, on 11/12/2008, -1/+3And on that note, RIP Phil Rizzuto.
- Tynan, on 11/12/2008, -0/+2Because the public knows nothing about nuclear technology and freaks out whenever they hear anything about it. It's political, not technological. Like so many other things holding back the space program.
- lumaga, on 11/12/2008, -1/+3Rirruto?
- kingfoot, on 11/12/2008, -0/+2chances not
- Pr0v0st, on 11/12/2008, -1/+3Whoever put up the picture at NASA did.
- zyklon, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2I don't know how to feel about the fact that I always had a crush on Miss Vaughn.
- kingfoot, on 11/12/2008, -0/+2well they are on or near the equator where the sun always hits...
- samimy, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1i am thinking, why the hell, with all those advanced machines and systems they have installed for the robot, why they didn't design a Dust Removal System for the solar panels? was that so difficult to them? they knew there is dust storm on Mars, but didn't think of that...Amazing! and Confusing...
- aereaus, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1ice=water=possibility of life or possibility to sustain life.... Groovy!
- goteki45, on 11/12/2008, -1/+2Never mind the ice, what about all the bird crap on the left support bar?
- biddie67, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1Did the solar panels supply more immediate power than the RTGs could for the processes on the Lander?
Can it survive the Martian winter and "wake up" next summer when the sun returns? - ScottyAnimal, on 11/12/2008, -2/+3Welcome to Phoenix....
Arizona. - t0x2c, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1When the sun expands and heats up enough to provide a suitable climate for life on mars, I wonder if there will be enough time for intelligent life to evolve, find the fossils we've left behind, and be completely confused as to how the ***** they got there.
I know it's not likely, but it's always possible evolution can take a faster path than it did on earth. - kingfoot, on 11/12/2008, -1/+2what i question is why the bar and the black spots in the foreground are there. upon just staring at the "larger" version my mind doesnt seem to believe it is supposed to be there in the first place.
- MazdaEric, on 11/12/2008, -1/+2may a flight of angels sing thee to thy grace little lander
- Rhendal, on 11/12/2008, -1/+2Obviously he wasn't a researcher.
- kingfoot, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1win.
- themastersb, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1I wonder if that's a true colour image.
- blynder, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1Someone pour me a Rum and Coke with some Martian ice! Sailor Jerry w/ a lime please.
What the hell, make it a double. - Rhendal, on 11/12/2008, -1/+2I highly doubt researchers used the word "cow" there.
- Lordmontu, on 11/12/2008, -1/+1Anyone know why they used solar panels instead of an RTG? The Vikings stayed alive for years using those. Seems like a waste to get such an advanced piece of equipment up there and just let it die after five months.
- YoMammy, on 11/12/2008, -1/+1The other 4 months were spent questioning heads of "respected" organized crime families for the location of Jimmy Hoffa's corpse, so they could exhume it.
- inactive, on 11/12/2008, -1/+1Yes, Lordmontu, didn't Spirit and Opportunity last much longer than expected? For years?
- TinTin42, on 11/12/2008, -1/+0i heard the mission was a complete success, they took a quarter of a million pictures of dirty
- inarguable, on 11/12/2008, -1/+0Well, it sure wouldn't be unprecedented for NASA to manipulate their imagery! Here are some Apollo-era frames that demonstrate conclusive proof of manipulation and cropping.

- thesubterfuge, on 11/12/2008, -1/+0the aluminum metal dillys at the top look like they were just pasted on top as well (lighting is completely off). if you click for the large picture, the cropped out black areas look as though someone took the blur tool to it....
also, why is the picture blurring except for the text?
just askin... - dwalker, on 11/12/2008, -3/+2That is where the film studio floor is showing (they did not have enough soil to cover those bits).
- danclements, on 11/12/2008, -1/+0I totally agree. The crossbrace in the forefront looks like the shadow was added through a gradient or something. Also the support strut on the top left also looks semi-translucent. I'm not saying its shopped, but it does look funny.
- SpanishMongoose, on 03/02/2009, -4/+1Pic looks phony... cgi or something... can't quite put my finger on it but something is for sure wrong with the pic
- DLtheRMX, on 11/12/2008, -4/+1why?
