- jlian, on 08/17/2008, -2/+24I live in Vancouver, and I missed it.
***** - luckless, on 08/17/2008, -2/+13The fact that it's Vancouver also means that it looked even cooler with a bit of the worlds best MJ.
- rheaume, on 08/17/2008, -3/+13Hey I'm somewhere in that picture
- invaderstar, on 08/17/2008, -2/+10HOLY ***** THE EARTH IS SPINNING
- Rikushix, on 08/17/2008, -3/+11Damn, I'm from Vancouver and I missed it too.
Not that it was ONLY visible in Vancouver; but it would have been cool to spend the night watching something like that, then go on digg a few days later and say "hey! I was just there!" - inactive, on 08/16/2008, -2/+10Beautiful Pic. I saw the shower in Az, but there wasnt that many to see.
- diizy, on 08/17/2008, -2/+10Vancouver Rocks!
- tunapez, on 08/16/2008, -1/+3Ditto, light shower this year. Had a very productive day after getting up at 4am anyway. Had to take a nap around 11, though.
- EricCiccone, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2That's really rare! When you see a meteor that big and bright you should always wait to see if you can hear the sonic boom caused by it's vaporization/explosion.
That meteor must have been so bright, I can only imagine! - jazzguitar18, on 08/17/2008, -2/+4damn I love vancouver :-(
- TJ11240, on 08/17/2008, -2/+3I watched for about an hour and saw quite a good show, but I wasn't able to photograph any.
- EricCiccone, on 08/17/2008, -0/+1Saw 2 fireballs within 15 minutes of eachother. It was very cloudy in the North East, the sky finally cleared around midnight when the first fireball flew across. It was blue with a long illuminated trail, the second flew right over our heads.
Most impressive show I've seen - DeskFlyer, on 08/17/2008, -2/+3The peak of the Perseids was Tuesday morning, but I was standing outside at about 10pm local time the following Friday night taking a smoke break at work, and I happened to be looking toward the western sky (quite the opposite of where I would normally be looking if seeking a meteor show) when I saw what seemed to be a completely unrelated meteor enter the atmosphere at an angle where it appeared to be coming from the opposite direction that the Earth revolves around the Sun, as if it was actually traveling way faster than our planet and was trying to overtake Earth in its orbit around the Sun. Thing took about 2-3 seconds to burn out and I saw this with a full moon in effect; it was the most bizarre thing I've seen in the sky for awhile. Anyone else see something similar?
- stuffradio, on 08/17/2008, -0/+1You're jealous because I live in the area of 2010 Olympics? I don't see why me stating facts gets me dugg down. Sometimes I just hate those diggers.
- rodbotic, on 08/17/2008, -1/+2about 10 yrs ago while watching the perseids shower, we watched one that was huge! it flew from west to east and
exploded into 2 pieces then went over the mountains. then we heard it coming in and explode. it was awesome. - inactive, on 08/18/2008, -0/+1its just an illusion cause by the world..... spinning 'round.
Do you realize? - biddie67, on 08/16/2008, -3/+4Here where I live, the night sky was overcast for the several nights when the Perseids were visible. Even tho' I dutifully sat out in my yard for an hour or so each night - with my 2 dogs and a glass of wine - I was only able to see 2 meteors.
I'm enjoying seeing what others were able to capture - thank you all .... - Dylson, on 08/17/2008, -1/+1No. But I did actually see the shower and it was quite remarkable.
- Gforce20, on 08/17/2008, -2/+2Talk about light pollution! I mistook this picture for dusk at first.
Unfortunately, I missed this myself. Nice pics. - slvrbullet87, on 08/17/2008, -2/+2I was pretty pissed that it was cast over in central illinois that night
- tehknotte, on 08/17/2008, -1/+1:0O *cries*
- Rikushix, on 08/17/2008, -1/+1I'm going to go out on a limb and say...you're probably not from Toronto.
Hell, I'm from Vancouver (we're supposed to hate Toronto) and I know that's not something that you joke about. - inactive, on 08/17/2008, -1/+1VERY GOOD WOULD STAND OUTSIDE IN THE DARK AGAIN A+++++++++
- kinseyincanada, on 08/17/2008, -2/+2i remember walking over the bridge that night and seeing what i thought was a bunch of shooting stars, and for some reason i thought i was just ridiculously lucky that i saw so many, didnt realize it was a meteor shower.
- chemam, on 08/17/2008, -2/+2Here in dominican rep. i saw about 20. Some big ones were visible for like 7 secs. those were very slow and left a thick smoke trail. My guess was that they were falling close to where i was. It really was beautiful to watch.
- Mossman85, on 08/17/2008, -2/+2***** Florida, ***** you I hate living here.
- stuffradio, on 08/17/2008, -2/+1I missed it too. I'm from around there somewhere :)
- Adam420, on 08/17/2008, -2/+1I saw a few really big ones one of the nights, even one when it was still partially light out right by the moon.
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -2/+1I'm banging here right now. Check where I live in my profile.
- tehknotte, on 08/17/2008, -2/+1i wonder if somewhere there she saw this too... :(
- MistyEstelle, on 08/17/2008, -2/+1If you were in most of the same hemisphere that it was on, you could have seen it if you were looking at that time; it wasn't just over Vancouver.
I was watching the meteor shower (from elsewhere in BC) and saw a very bright one, I wonder if it was the same one there. - gtbarnes, on 08/17/2008, -2/+0Viewed the shower from Anza Borrego State Park east of San Diego. There were a ton of meteors, at least one every minute. I brought my camera and did some long exposures, but didn't catch anything good, other than some great views of the Milky Way. I just finished going through them, they're uploading right now. Flickr set at http://snipurl.com/3h28c
- inactive, on 08/17/2008, -3/+1Calgary had rainclouds :'(
- delumen, on 08/17/2008, -6/+3Oh hey i think I saw that in Toronto...oh wait that was the propane explosion...damn
- suwoo244, on 08/17/2008, -18/+1Buried for Canada.
