- Banoni, on 06/29/2009, -0/+20The lack of the camera's peripheral vision deeply saddens me.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+9It would have been great with more feild of view, but I must say a video of a real crash in space gets major cool point from me :) video is so much more fun than just images.
- Subduction, on 06/29/2009, -2/+9It looks like when I used to bullseye womp-rats in my T-16 back home.
- louiebaur, on 06/29/2009, -5/+11This is the best APOD ever!
- brianpeiris, on 06/29/2009, -1/+5This page has still shots of the impact and links to more pictures:

Not as exciting as Kaguya's stunning Earth-rise videos though:

- agulesin, on 06/29/2009, -1/+4how to dig yourself out of a hole before it's too late!! :-D
- jiggawatt, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3are you serious?
- cjh24, on 06/29/2009, -1/+4damn repeats.

(read the comments - this "footage" is actually rendered) - neonsox, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2I'd be more let down that your company places unnecessary filters on internet content. As if you are a child in need of supervision.
- PurpleDee, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2Thanks for the earth rise vid link. It was awesome.
- Dooglas56, on 06/29/2009, -2/+4is that real? Yeah whats with the race horse view of the moon?
- EPeters, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2It's radar topography combined with true color footage to create a 3D render. It's basically the spot on the moon where it crashed. It does suck that it's not live, though.
- chill613, on 06/29/2009, -1/+3I want to see LRO's view of the impact :D
- agulesin, on 06/29/2009, -1/+3I Dugg it but I haven't seen the video as our company's policy blocks streaming video... have to wait till the evening... Hey you APOD guys, how about a still photo and a link to the video? Anyway, I guess its worth waiting for! :-)
- Yage2006, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2Being on digg its really hard to tell isn't it.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2Good catch m8 & some cool trivia on space meets fiction in reality
- ranjones1, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2They still misspell "Kaguya". "Kayuga" is the old Twilight Zone production company.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1Slow or not I cant stop watching it, a crash in space for real is wild to see
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -2/+3Did you analyze this data on Uranus or are you in the cracks peeking at the earths crust?
- snagglefoof, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1I'm sure it's a lot wider than you think.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -2/+3I know I keep watching it over n over :) I can almost hear the space sci-fi sounds in my head.... SHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh BOOOOOOOM!!!! :) YAY NASA
- suntzusputnik, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2the problem most people have when seeing footage of the lunar surface is our inability to determine the scale of things
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2Oh man it's great. Like your right in the nose of the rocket, wild ride from space to the ground, really cool stuff this time :)
- archimago42, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2I know it's not but it comes out looking like CGI.
- ostracize, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1No, we're not starting that.
- Mujokan, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1Watch in HD when you get home... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxDNWXZpC3g
- chunkmunk01, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2I hate to be the one to scream "PHOTOSHOP" but that looks fake as all hell to me. If the viewing angle of the camera really was fixed and cut off to the sides then terrain would disappear as the craft got closer to the moon. It looks to me like a long strip of "lunar terrain" was created and a flyby of it was recorded.
- inactive, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2I meant only YAY NASA because they posted it for us to see.
- QubitTarutaru, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1Help me Eirin!
助けて、えーりん! - gaqua, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2That's the reason I'm convinced it's real. A fake would have better production value and be much more convincing. If we wanted to fake something crashing on the moon we'd do a much better job of it.
- bdigital24, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1agreed
- solargroupies, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1I think it happened behind the grassy knoll!
- agulesin, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1Can I undig it please? After having sorted out a problem with Adobe player and our company block, I feel let-down...
What I wonder is how did the data get back to Earth after the crash? I guess they made the probe somewhat stronger than your standard saloon... - Mujokan, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1Can't you read Japanese? It's a 3D 地形カメラ video.
http://www.jaxa.jp/press/2007/11/20071128_kaguya_e ... - evisr8r, on 06/29/2009, -1/+1Bonus points for where Kayuga comes from, anyone? anyone?
- TobiasParker, on 06/29/2009, -1/+1That's what she said?
- EttAppel, on 06/29/2009, -2/+1They should have hired Michael bay too shot this.
- frequentFlyer, on 06/29/2009, -2/+1Rook out! ROOK OUT!
- snagglefoof, on 06/29/2009, -2/+1Dugg for consistency... ?
- SpookyBoots, on 06/29/2009, -2/+1http://www.holyconservancy.org/moonpageH.htm
Fixed - inactive, on 06/29/2009, -2/+1It's the Japanese Kaguya satellite that crashed into the moon this month, very interesting to watch :)
- jonw, on 06/30/2009, -2/+1what a hopelessly useless piece of rubbish footage of absolutely nothing to write home about!
- ranjones1, on 06/29/2009, -1/+0Looks like maybe Rod Serling himself got in there and corrected it. :-)
- sHockz, on 06/29/2009, -4/+1"The Moon is COMPLETELY settled and populated with hominids of different races! " - You are speaking of the Ananake?
as crazy as the ancient text reads and is interpreted....we should not treat it with such disrespect.
the texts, when interpreted, sound ***** crazy.....but some of it makes real good sense, assuming you can step out on a limb.
the questionable thing about the writings, is why go through all the time and effort of inscribing mans first attempts at written language on a wall to tell a fairy tale?
emily, the fact you know about nibiru and the ananake puts you miles ahead of most people. it all sounds pretty crazy, but at least it makes for a hell'of an interesting read. - EmilyCragg, on 06/29/2009, -4/+0Imagine the nerve of bombing an inhabited geosphere, not knowing where the people live.
Are we crazy or just stupid? - jmcenanly, on 06/29/2009, -5/+1Just like the Ranger probes of the early 1960's, expect they had a slower data return rate.
- AnalyzeUranus, on 06/29/2009, -6/+1THE ALIANS DID THIS!!!
- EmilyCragg, on 06/29/2009, -9/+1What kind of Idiots run these programs? The Moon is COMPLETELY settled and populated with hominids of different races! Is mankind STUPID, or just misinformed by its Leadership? If you don't believe me, see http://wwwholyconservancy.org/moonpageH.htm
What is Digg?
