- fuzzybeard, on 07/04/2009, -1/+15High resolution version, please?
- nerddtvg, on 07/04/2009, -1/+15Unfortunately there is no higher resolution because the original artist sells prints, but more images are here: http://www.astropics.com/mount-rushmore.html
- Fuzzycop, on 07/04/2009, -0/+8Those 4 Presidents get to "see" amazing starry skies every night.
- elbergel, on 07/04/2009, -3/+10Awesome how Polaris is on the same plane as the far edge of the rock
- audreyfischer, on 07/04/2009, -0/+6Perfect image choice for 4th of July.
Wally's photographs reminds us of the importance in protecting our starry night skies for now and future generations. I wonder if we'll ever see an intense starry sky over Lady Liberty. - inactive, on 07/04/2009, -1/+4Very cool of you to find the pictures for us. Great images.
- Czechxican, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3Wish it was big enough to be my new background. Still awesome though!
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3Nasa did a great job on the choice for the 4th of July. Wonderful skyline beautiful stars and a proud symbol of what the day is really about. Independence and freedom for all people under the sky.
- TumblingDice777, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3That's a pretty warped plane seeing as Polaris is on the top right of the picture.
- audreyfischer, on 07/04/2009, -1/+2It is very cool! but the star you're looking at is actually Phecda. The stars to the right of it are the pointer stars, Merak and Dubhe, which point up to Polaris, the North Star.
- tuh2, on 07/05/2009, -1/+2I live 30mins away from Mt.Rushmore its an amazing place.
- moliver21, on 07/04/2009, -1/+1Breathtaking.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -2/+2That would be really cool, a NASA Liberty Apod, neat idea.
- LadyZoots, on 07/05/2009, -1/+1bury for not having larger images
- twinklyJesus, on 07/04/2009, -1/+1Your Astronomy skills are astounding. The two stars on the leading edge of the "Big Dipper" point up at Polaris, the north star. Polaris is nowhere near the edge of the rock.
In other word, friend, colossal public fail, resulting in IQ humiliation on your part.
Thanks for playing, now get off my lawn!!! - djm19, on 07/04/2009, -0/+0I think its a pretty terrible choice if they are trying to be symbolic. For one, the monument is not about independence, its about expansionism of America. And on that note, its hardly about freedom for all those under the sky. Tell that to the indian tribe that lived there and resents that this monument is there.
- Mutton, on 07/04/2009, -1/+1That mountain looks like heads!!!!!
- Volath, on 07/04/2009, -1/+1Cool picture. Even though I'm not a fan of Mt Rushmore because of the fact it's a monument to Manifest Destiny more than anything, and that it's not even a half finished sculpture. I very much support getting the message out about light pollution.
- Wreckage, on 07/04/2009, -1/+1If you look to the left you can see where they are going to add Bill Clinton.
- coondog35, on 07/05/2009, -1/+1Last night it was too foggy to see any stars or fireworks. :(
- Codename, on 07/04/2009, -2/+1This is such a cool picture, but why is the website layout so old?
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -3/+1Figures the 'Fuzz' would be all 'Cop' on us and pick on the 'Stoned' guys.
- IAMRaven, on 07/04/2009, -2/+0APOD every day. APOD every day. APOD every day.... go go go....
