- nerddtvg, on 07/29/2008, -0/+18APOD images are always spectacular and this one is no different.
- zhimbo, on 07/29/2008, -0/+12For the ill-informed people who have criticized similar previous APODs because they were "'shopped", I hope they read the complete caption of this one, and maybe a light bulb will turn on in their head.
- twilitezone, on 07/29/2008, -0/+9WOW...BEAUTIFUL.
The Milky Way is so awesome.
What a pretty picture, I would not mind taking a dip in that water ether. - bngeodesic, on 07/29/2008, -0/+8If everybody simply turned out their house lights every night not only could we save the planet from tons of polution but we would get to see this view from everywhere!
- DeviateSeptum, on 07/29/2008, -0/+5Beyond just looking at a pretty picture, try imagining yourself embedded in the pancake-shaped disk of the Milky Way. The night sky is much more engaging when you think of it as a 3D entity of which you are a member.
- TheSeeker11, on 07/29/2008, -0/+4The mind of a woman.
- matt510, on 07/29/2008, -0/+4Most people who complain about astrophotography being "shopped" don't actually understand much about astrophotogrpahy.
- DrJG, on 07/29/2008, -0/+4Beautiful, thank you APOD and NASA.
- matt510, on 07/29/2008, -0/+4This isn't an artificial image. This is a composite image. Quite real.
- inactive, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3And a good scenario for a cheap B horror movie.
- Sererena, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3I want to know where this was taken in Ontario... it's a big province.
- TheRhinoceros, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3Nice Pic!
Happy 50th Birthday Nasa! - matt510, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3"July 5, 2008 I had the pleasure of observing and photographing the stars at a local conservation area and dark sky site in Binbrook, Ontario, Canada."

- smcavoy, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Ontario is over 1,000,000 square kilometers... it'd be nice if it were a little more specific!
- Borgcube636, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2I love how the stars are reflecting on the lake
- matt510, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2"July 5, 2008 I had the pleasure of observing and photographing the stars at a local conservation area and dark sky site in Binbrook, Ontario, Canada."

- CoreyHalliwell, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2I thought it was gonna be in a Bag.

- Kinneas12, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Ah our virgin skies. Now let's think about what we can see from China...
- Akraz, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2This is better than that XKCD ***** that pops up everytime something new is added. I know you cant compare the two, but in terms of submission, this will always be better.
- gabrielsond, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1the bottom of the ocean
- Codename, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1Pleasure you can't measure.
- inactive, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1wow.
- Dopeness, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1Looks like the perfect place to park your car with your girlfriend and a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label.
A little skinny dipping in that pond/lake looks like it would be fun as well. - livbit, on 07/29/2008, -1/+2NASA says they will put a man in mars by 2037....I am wondering where will they put a man in 2237 or may be 2537. Any ideas???
- dvance, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1Only about 15 years before we landed on the moon, lots of people thought we'd never do it.
- zephyrnug, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1amazing view. just imagine if there were no light pollution around the world, just how beautiful it would be.
- dipdog21, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1This is so FANTASTIC I don't even know what to say!
- HiddenCanuck, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1You're in ontario. It would be Crown Royal or Canadian Club.
- HiddenCanuck, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Binbrook? Seriously? Between Hamilton and Stoney Creek? Whoa.
- zhimbo, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1OK, you MUST be yanking my chain, coming so soon after my comment above.
- Tyrghast, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1I can't even get that view if I go out to my friend's farm down here in Texas. Great section of sky.
- prammy, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1During the 2003 leonids shower, myself and a couple of friends went out by Rt 1 near Half Moon Bay to see the show. The sky looked similar to the pic, except it wasn't quite as colorful.
Its amazing what you can see when you don't have light pollution.
You can figure out what the objects are by using Stellarium: http://www.stellarium.org/ - ShadowFoxxx, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1That must be one of the "arms" of the Milky Way. I once saw it when I was in Death Valley at nighttime, but it was nothing like this!
Extraordinary. - slayernine, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1um.. Your mother
- Clodhopper, on 08/02/2008, -0/+1Go out to Algonquin for a week, the clear skies at night are so amazing out there.
- thegrantman, on 07/29/2008, -0/+010,000 pictures......10,000 inspirations.
- Aliwalla, on 07/29/2008, -1/+1Seen better in the mountains near Cape Town :0
- MysticMuffin, on 08/17/2008, -0/+0Where was this picture taken??? I'd love to go there.
- leandrotami, on 07/30/2008, -0/+0Not really. I have been in extremely clean and natural places kilometers away from large cities and never have seen this kind of thing. Thousands of stars, sure, but never a glimpse to the galaxy like that.
- BilliD, on 07/31/2008, -0/+0no freakin way! this is done by nothing by a camera? i can't believe the night sky is supposed to look this good! it looks like we are in space or summin! incredible. it sucks being in toronto.. can't see a star at all at night.
- leandrotami, on 07/30/2008, -0/+0At this speed, in Mars. Maybe.
- MRJafari, on 07/30/2008, -0/+0Very Beauty .......
- ladyxfiles, on 07/30/2008, -2/+0wow...looks like tha perfect place 2 get yur freak on...simple gorgeous...luv it!
- Richary, on 07/29/2008, -9/+2It's a nice pic but why post one with the sky shopped and the lake not. Why put in an artificial image? Would prefer a real one.
