- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+37Venus, Mars, and Jupiter would be easy to pick out if they were driving down the street.
- sctechguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23FTA: Three planets haven't been that close since 1925, said Miami Space Transit Planetarium director Jack Horkheimer.
So, according to the submitter, the Civil War happened in 1925?
Maybe the Irish Civil War (1922-1923), or the Russian Civil War (1918-1922).
Submitter needs to learn his history. - mold, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28uranus is going to offer a treat on sunday!
- SpackAdam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17doesn't this kinda seem late? I would have liked some more notice....come on CNN
- HanSolo69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14should have added "Apple" "Why Windows Sucks" "Ubuntu" and "Guy Gets Hit in teh Ballz lmfao (video)" somewhere in the title and description so this would have gotten to the front page faster.
- phlux, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13its a joke buddy.
jesus. - wexlerama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It was posted Friday on CNN, it just took awhile to make it over here for some reason...
- mercurysquad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9EBFoxbat, read up on astronomy before you rebuke someone. Planets don't twinkle because they do have a larger disc size compared to stars, although to our naked eyes both planets and stars appear as point lights which are smeared and only vary in brightness. The atmospheric effects are much pronounced for stars, however, owing to the infinitesimally small disc size thus causing them to "twinkle".
- arkmtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8It would've been nice if this hadn't taken 20 hours to reach Digg's front page. :-( Oh well.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I hear you should be able to see it on Monday morning as well.
- t.toe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7heck, I can obscure my entire vision if I place my thumb just right!
- tito13kfm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9How far away from my face should I be holding my thumb? Because I can obscure the sun if I place it properly.
- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Damn it, I missed it by less than 15 minutes. The sun JUST came up. I guess I will get up and try again tomorrow. I don't remember actually really ever seeing Mercury and KNOWING for an absolute fact I was looking at Mercury. This will be cool as hell, because I can, like most people pick out Venus, Mars and Jupiter driving down the street. I'm not 100% accurate at picking out Saturn, either.
- yevkasem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i just loaded up stellarium and fast forwarded to tomorrow. it looks like at 06:20 the planets should come up in my home town (pittsburgh) but the sun will be up 30 minutes later and hide it.
- houstonmacbro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3we had overcast skies all day. dammit!
- ChadN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Next best thing: Just fire up "Stellarium" and check it out there.
http://www.stellarium.org/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We had too much haze here. Blame it on weather.
I'll be trying again Monday morning with my Orion Astroview Reflector telescope. - dreadful, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone have a link to a picture of this
- Dohko_Xar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does anyone have any pictures? I read this story to late to go out and check.
Hope someone took some pictures. Post them please. - macamatition, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I woke up on time and was out starring at a gigantic freiking tree. I'm 13 so I cand drive out of my complex just yet...I was so pissed every were i went there were more chunks of condos and stupid trees!!!
- Spook27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alright, just last night I was wishing for a bit of software like this -- completely unaware of Stellarium's existance. You, Sir, have just made my day!
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I can obscure them from view with my thumb!? No way!
You know what! I just figured out I can obscure the sun from view with my thumb!
Uh oh, now I can obscure the entire Big Dipper constellation from view with my thumb!
Whoa! NOW I can obscure EVERYTHING from view with my thumb! Although, it's not so comfortable with my thumb touching my eye... - StephenChow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4its a joke buddy.
jesus. - ahpro, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4has nobody got any pictures of this yet?
- sctechguy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Ok, not only is this joke getting old, but it has already been used TWICE in this comment thread. Moral of the story: look, before you take that leap into trying an overused joke.
Edit: Renegade already said it, but I think it bears repeating, so that we can see if it hammers into anyone's head. - mercurysquad, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Pics or it didn't happen!!
- WarezAppz, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Don't forget other keywords like "Nintendo" "Wii" "Sony" "Playstation 3" "PS3" "Microsoft" or "Xbox 360"

- phlux, on 10/12/2007, -15/+9Pics or it didnt happen!!
- renegade1029, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1OK. Once, it may be funny. Twice, it's starting to get irritating. But you sir are a ***** idiot for posting such an unfunny comment 51 minutes after someone already posted it.
God, is there any hope for mankind? - WildTang3nt, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Pics or it didn't happen
- EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3"they won't twinkle because they're planets"
That guy is the director of the planetarium? What a moron. Star's don't twinkle either. The atmosphere plays with their light. Planets are (generally) brighter than stars and thus don't appear to twinkle as readily.
That said, I suppose it's ok to say "planets don't twinkle" because (while not true) will help the lay man identify them. - daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -21/+10You shouldn't be searching for planets when driving down the street. You should be paying attention to the road.
- ledpamster, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2how can there be ***** pictures when the article was posted 2 days before the event happened? go be a dumbass somewhere in a corner alright?
What is Digg?
