- rusty0101, on 10/11/2009, -1/+19They have a 12 story building at every science center so they can set up a 130 foot pendulum? I didn't know that. Amazing what you can learn on Digg.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 10/11/2009, -0/+12It's pretty wild if you think about it. The Franklin Institute science museum in Philly does the same thing with the Pendulum Stairway. It's a five story staircase that spirals around a huge metal ball swinging on a metal rod. As the day goes on it knocks over pegs that are arranged in a circle around the pendulum.

- grantmoore3d, on 10/11/2009, -0/+6I was a little disappointed, I assumed this was an experiment that took 150 years to complete.
- aoctavio, on 10/11/2009, -0/+3Here is my video of the Foucault Pendulums at the Ars et Metiers Musee and the Pantheon in Paris, France.
http://alfredo.octavio.net/index.php?id=1196 - missinglink, on 10/11/2009, -0/+2I believe that magnets are used to keep the pendulum swinging.
- rif42, on 10/11/2009, -0/+2Musée des arts et métiers is great museum for engineers and scientists. Highly recommended.
http://www.arts-et-metiers.net/ - zack852, on 10/11/2009, -0/+2didn't you read. magnets moves the pendulum but the original foucault experiment didn't use anything but gravity
- hereticoftruth, on 10/12/2009, -0/+1Just because an experiment is over 100 years old does not mean it's results and interpretations are wrong. There is more crap passing for science than there was back then.
- AmazingSteve, on 10/12/2009, -0/+1There's an amazing thing that's been invented in the last 150 years called a ***** camera. The L.A. Times should probably look into buying a couple of these magical devices.
- danrien, on 10/14/2009, -0/+1Pictures or I don't believe in this spinning earth on axis thing.
- duzey, on 10/11/2009, -1/+2I as well.
- overridemymind, on 10/11/2009, -1/+1Anyone else reminded of that DHARMA initiative pendulum experiment thing they used to find the island?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6PnXRPV-Z0 - palehorse864, on 10/11/2009, -1/+1World turnin', I've gotta get my feet back on the ground.
Wooorld turnin', everybody's got me down! - iritegood, on 10/11/2009, -1/+1You are both right.
- Frostek, on 10/11/2009, -1/+1No Umberto Eco references?
- Suricou, on 10/11/2009, -1/+1Science museum in London has one too.
- TexMexRex, on 10/11/2009, -1/+1So they have recreated a graviy experiment that worked just fine and added a large electromagnet that must be turned on and off by a computer?? Brilliant. I'll build a life size model of the the wright flyer, add a jet engine and demonstraight how they invented powered flight.
- TexMexRex, on 10/11/2009, -3/+2What is the nonsense about magnets and magnetic force at the beginning of the article? There is no magnetism involved.
Also, anywhere on the equator, this should not work. - grantmoore3d, on 10/11/2009, -2/+1We've got a similar one at our University, nothing too special really.
- Grimee, on 10/11/2009, -13/+5no video = teh lose
- AJShoes9789, on 10/10/2009, -19/+1yawn
- socoolisme, on 10/11/2009, -19/+1So what they have one of those at every science center.
