- koolaide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"@jcronkhite - its not webhosting.. its webstorage... very few of my important files are -5mb. 2gb FREE from gmail, and as far as i know, no file size cap... In my opinion, box.net sucks."
Gmail has a 10mb limit. - Lindsay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This site is awesome. I can save school papers, share music, etc..awesome.
- groovytasticsam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ha this is so funny how much web2.0 and AJAX got this so many diggs
- deut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Let's try with buzzwords in the title this time."
LOL - Very good use of the countless hordes of digg-ajax-fan-boys to pimp the site. You really hit the nail on the head with that statement.
Let's face it, these bozos would digg a piece of turd if it had ajax inscribed somewhere on it. - DiggMyOwnGrave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now we see why Digg is NOT the Slashdot killer.
- jcronkhite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11GB for FREE and people are going to cry about a 5MB cap! What's wrong with you people?!! If you want more pay for it! Everyone wants a free ride. Box.net doesn't spam you or push ads (so their site says) so they're not making money that way. They are only making money from the $4.99/month on 5GB accounts. Good for them! They feel like they are offering a great service and are so confident of this that they are giving you an endless free trial of 1GB AND they're promising to backup and secure your data! Maybe they should also pay off our mortages. Then they'd make everyone happy, right?
- Uriah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like Web 2.0 and how it's gaining momentum with AJAX, soon there will be a Synergy of blogging through Web 2.0 to provide a scale-able XML and JavaScript nano solution, so it can be readily accepted by venture capitalists.
Hooray for buzzwords! - AverageJoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Slow, and 5mb file size cap on the free accnt. Digg for use in a pinch, but 5mb?
- zakharm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and submit it on the weekend when it is easier to get on the frontpage
- Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm digging this just because you employed propper marketting strategy... Go buzzwords!
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool, but this is probably some fly-by-night company.
I'll wait for Google's version. - zer0cubed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Page is messed up. (1.5, Linux)"
Same here, pretty much. I'm using Flock though. No digg. - FlyingLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oolala zweb2.0 zAJAX must do zdigg ZOMG

- h3adstr0ng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh oh oh forgot "web 2.0" and "store"
store is cool. total digg. - h3adstr0ng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OMG OMG OMG AJAX?
why is ajax the word of the century now - priapos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0www.roamdrive.com is infinitely better. Works with a bunch of different email accounts. I currently have over 100gb of 'free' online storage with this application through gmail.

@jcronkhite - its not webhosting.. its webstorage... very few of my important files are -5mb. 2gb FREE from gmail, and as far as i know, no file size cap... In my opinion, box.net sucks. - lux55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You can also try http://www.putfwd.com/ which is also free.
We're about to announce an increase to 1GB free in the next few days as we officially launch the site (guess I shouldn't say that yet ;)).
It's got lots of cool features for sharing and publishing files too (ie. tagging, blogging, podcasts, photo galleries, etc.) which many of the existing file storage solutions don't have yet. - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+0digg for title
- noelsusman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, I can't believe it actually worked. What has digg come to?
- UCDMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Using AJAX and qualifying as a Web 2.0 service aren't the same thing. Although I like the service...
hmm. digg? no digg? digg? no digg?
digg. - crbaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gave it a try and could not even upload a 20kb file. So slow. Who wants to use a web interface to upload file. Why can't I create an offline folder within OS that looks like any other folder or drive. Then drag and drop files I want to place on offline storage.
Thumbs down for me. - NiLeS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Let's try with buzzwords in the title this time."
ROTFL - standsolid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet! AJAX!
- Leech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0esnips rules
- inventions, on 10/12/2007, -0/+05mb only for free accounts - unlimited for any other account
- zatrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0just goes to show how over hyper AJAX is, makes me sick
- DigitalKNK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I snort AJAX all the time ... good stuff!
- tabgilbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did Bob from Accounting look this over?
- zatrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*hyped
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why AJAX? Just give fecking FTP access!
- Ben - jp10558, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I really don't get why people would ever use one of these 1GB services. Streamload has been around for quite a while - 10GB storage free, 250GB or more with a paid account. Best part is they charge per bandwidth down, so you get 100MB free (I'm pretty sure there isn't a file size limitation for uploading), but you can pay for one month $10 to get 10,000 MB down when you need it, and then just stop paying again - the storage doesn't go away (10GB).
- matthom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have an AJAX toaster!
- gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*ahem* http://www.streamload.com/About/freeloaderinfo.asp : a > 10MB file can be uploaded, but not DLed until a paid subscription is made.
- gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0See http://www.streamload.com/Account/Pricing.asp and it'll read "10MB/file max" for free accounts.
- goldenratiophi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's next - AJAX cleaning supplies?
Oh wait...
(for those who didn't get that really stupid joke: http://www.cleansweepsupply.com/pages/skugroup1068.html)
Anyway, I guess it looks cool, though having such a small filesize limit sucks. I guess I can backup small documents and such on it. - brilliant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Abuse of buzzwords, especially those Web 2.0 related ones, is a felony.
The Web 2.0 police are gonna getcha azz!
3 strikes and youre out, so watch it yo! - smhill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just to point out, it is not using AJAX for the upload, it using an iframe. You cannot upload files using httpxmlrequest.
- TransmitThis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+05MB?
well if someone could write me a little app that would seamlessly split my larger files and then recompile them when downloaded, it may be use full. no not really, no digg
as above Gmail storage google it if unsure - lagerbottom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hrm, looks like crap in FF. How can something be web2.0 if it doesn't render properly in FF?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like it
- krum0786, on 10/12/2007, -0/+05mb limit? This thing sucks ass. no digg.
- neoDingo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's AJAX.... so it must be good!
NO DIGG! - jcronkhite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"its not webhosting.. its webstorage... very few of my important files are -5mb. 2gb FREE from gmail, and as far as i know, no file size cap... In my opinion, box.net sucks."
@AverageJoe - I'm fully aware it's not web hosting. My point about spam and ads is simply that you will not receive email from Box or their partners and the site itself will not host ads (a nice thing). Concerning the GMail file size cap, have a closer look:
https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=8770&query=attachment+size&topic=0&type=f
And as for the storage itself, I personally won't be storing any really important files on Box.net. But I find it useful for my business partners and I to gain access to documents we may need on the go without connecting to our ftp server; especially if we only have port 80 access. The fact that Box.net maintains backups is a great feature for the simple fact that I won't have to re-upload all of my files, they'll just restore. There's no harm in appreciating a true free and neatly designed product. Just more food for though! Thanks for your comments. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ajax and Web 2.0 may be ridiculously overplayed buzzwords, but these guys put them to good use. They say auto-backup is coming soon (http://www.box.net/info/sync) although I'm not sure when - hard to complain about getting all of your documents and photos backed up every night for free. Definitely dugg.
