- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -7/+298I look forward to emptying my trash with Vuze/Azureus in it.
- Depravo, on 08/10/2008, -22/+263Do they mean µTorrent?
- ConfusedCartman, on 08/10/2008, -7/+164I love my uTorrent.
- sfacets, on 08/10/2008, -19/+168Soon you say ... I have never heard that one before.
- RyomaNagare, on 08/10/2008, -9/+130Here is hoping for a transmission like footprint, with Vuze's speed.
- KineticShampoo, on 08/10/2008, -6/+99The new square tray icon is unnverving!
- renegadeafk, on 08/10/2008, -2/+82The RIAA is not hiding in utorrent 1.7/8 You are just ridiculously paranoid if you think so. You are using bittorrent anyway, they can spy on you no matter what client you use, because your ip is publicly broadcaster.
If you are that p[aranoid you shouldn't even be usiong bittorrent.
Utorrent is fine. - i4mt3hwin, on 08/10/2008, -0/+77I don't even get how this thing is so small.. it's packs a lot of usable functions and even contains a fully playable version of Tetris (help - about - press t) and it's only 261kb? Awesome program.
- bigredgpk, on 08/10/2008, -4/+70Love it on Windows, Cannot wait to try it on my mac. Hopefully I'll be kicking Vuze to the curb
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+54Both of you shut up and stop being idiots.
- bbqsalad, on 08/10/2008, -3/+57The mac version was "coming soon" like a year ago...
- mrsteveman1, on 08/10/2008, -1/+50This is probably redundant, but thats exactly what uTorrent is.
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -3/+50you're an idiot
- SirDaShadow, on 08/10/2008, -1/+46Your swapfile will thank you for that
- renegadeafk, on 08/10/2008, -4/+43Wow, I need to spell check next time /facepalm
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+36This is the best news i have heard all week! Linux version to please ! (yes i know it runs in wine but still)
- mrsteveman1, on 08/10/2008, -2/+37Transmission is more intuitive, but it is not easy to manage large numbers of torrents in it compared to uTorrent.
uTorrent is somewhere between Azureus and Transmission i think. It's very controllable and there are lots of options, but its also lightweight and fast (which AZ is not).
If you've ever had 200+ torrents sitting in a client at one time you'll see where uTorrent helps and Transmission makes things difficult. I don't mean downloading all at the same time, but i like to keep them in the client, both because you can seed selectively without having to look for the torrent file if someone asks, and because you can force it to recheck the files on the drive in case one gets corrupted, and if it is, the thing will correct the file for you by grabbing the pieces you need. You can do that in AZ and TM, but as i said, one is too bloated, the other is difficult to use when the client has that many torrents loaded. - inactive, on 08/10/2008, -7/+42thanks for being a pretentious ass, most people rightly don't feel like typing special characters every time they want to name what program they use.
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 08/10/2008, -3/+37You should have done that already. Transmission is the best Torrent App on Mac and Linux by far.
- Yetisquatch, on 08/10/2008, -2/+36Hear that sound? Thats the sound of us digging you down for your self-righteous tone about an opinion that we don't give a flying ***** about. You sir are a complete douche. Congratulations. Have a great day!
- bweltondav, on 08/10/2008, -2/+35Seriously--do they even make any money off of the crap they stick in their? I don't understand it; the majority of the people who would know how to use Vuze are using it to /avoid/ having to pay for content. It just seems counter intuitive.
- bunkka, on 08/10/2008, -7/+40you've obviously never used uTorrent
- fliguy84, on 08/10/2008, -0/+32Wow in my 2+ years of using this program, I never knew that. Cheers.
- Electric_Sheep, on 08/10/2008, -6/+38Transmission is a bloody good client for OS X.
- diggimator, on 08/10/2008, -1/+32I used to be a loyal Azureus/Vuze user until the past month or so when I finally got fed up with their shenanigans and switched to Transmission instead. Transmission is much cleaner and organized, and I don't miss Azureus/Vuze at all.
- kamisama, on 08/10/2008, -7/+38Enjoy your memory sucking java crap.
- joegibes, on 08/10/2008, -1/+31What about 'mu torrent?' Or 'coefficient of friction torrent?'
But seriously, MuTorrent is more correct, but uTorrent seems to be the common pronunciation. - las3rjock, on 08/10/2008, -0/+30You think BitTorrent, Inc. (founded by Bram Cohen, the creator of the BitTorrent protocol) is an anti-P2P group?
- Jvhowube, on 08/10/2008, -6/+33I think I'll stick with Transmission. The guys over there seem to be doing it right. I haven't had any problems.
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -2/+29????
- RedShoulder, on 08/10/2008, -4/+29Safe? Nothing is "safe".
Throw caution to the wind and give the Devil her due! - afflaf, on 08/10/2008, -1/+26The Mac version has been "coming very soon" for almost 2 years now!
- LaoSoup, on 08/10/2008, -5/+29How about a native version for Linux? I prefer not to run Utorrent through wine.
- ch33sehead, on 08/10/2008, -18/+40Has anyone yet confirmed that any uTorrent versions after 1.6 are safe? They did, after all, sell out...
- bagelmaster, on 08/10/2008, -2/+23When I first saw the name I thought it was pronounced "micro torrent" because of its small footprint on the system. But I soon gave into the overwhelming amount of people just saying "you torrent." :(
- Mejogid, on 08/10/2008, -0/+21Not everybody has a 'µ' key on their keyboard...
- CalcProgrammer1, on 08/10/2008, -0/+20Definitely! Wine isn't ideal. If they're already porting it to a Unix-based OS, then why not go a little farther to port it to Linux. I wish they'd just open-source it already, every other good BT client is, what are they hiding that they need to keep it closed.
- ronnsprocket, on 08/10/2008, -2/+22i've being hearing about this for a year.....less excited with each release of transmission...truly becoming a great client
- mrsteveman1, on 08/10/2008, -1/+19That makes no sense.
- Cpt0bvius, on 08/10/2008, -4/+22So, why is it that when I check for updates(in 1.7.7) does it tell me there are none
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -2/+20why does everything have to be proprietary? What is so horrible about a open-source application?
- schnikies79, on 08/10/2008, -2/+19^^ Exactly on both comments.
Neither is better in all circumstances. It should be up the developer, no one else. - jd87, on 08/10/2008, -0/+17I love the conflict and change of heart you had whilst writing your post.
- foshizol, on 08/10/2008, -8/+25Actually if you have ever used uTorrent on XP you wouldn't have said something so ignorant. uTorrent is superior to Transmission in every way. The biggest reason is you can't program a proxy server in Transmission and uTorrent supports Socks 5 proxies which is nice because I use it in conjunction with BTguard. Transmission is ok for N00bs but for a Mac power user it doesn't cut the mustard.
- Petrie, on 08/10/2008, -3/+19God help you if you ever use a mac...
- jynweythek, on 09/17/2008, -1/+17they should've gotten the standalone exe. no install necessary =)
- centric2, on 08/10/2008, -2/+18Sometimes it's good to have a false sense of security.
- paulsabo, on 08/10/2008, -2/+16What the ***** are you talking about, there is no installer... you download the program in ONE FILE, and it runs.
*****, I hope you get caught by the MPAA. - lazyrussian, on 08/10/2008, -1/+15Touché mrsteveman1. I've never been in a situation where I am seeding/leeching more than 15 torrents, so I had not envisioned the situation your argument brings up.
- CalcProgrammer1, on 08/10/2008, -1/+15Deluge is pretty close to uTorrent, so close that I'd rather run Deluge than uTorrent under Wine. However, uTorrent does still have more features and better integration, so in the end, a uTorrent native Linux version would win over Deluge.
