- mementh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19well it would make things ok.. but these players don't understand smart playlists so be carefull.
Plus they wont play your Bought music - karbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11You can try SyncTunes: http://www.nesfield.co.uk/synctunes/
- karbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The idea of creating this application was for people who uses iTunes as their music organizer to be able to more conveniently drag tracks directly from their library to a playlist representing their MP3 player. Especially for devices which uses a folder pattern to organize the music, like the Walkman phones from Sony Ericsson where files has to be organized in a rather strict folder structure.
However if you do not use iTunes as a media organizer, then neither is iTunes Agent of much help to you. - utch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I would use windows explorer, as I do with my shuffle http://ohadp.blogspot.com/2005/06/ipod-shuffle-without-itunes.html
thank you ohad! - mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"ffiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally, i have been dying for this. digg my comment if you think $50 is too much to pay for the priviledge of having FM radio on your ipod."
this isn't what the itunes agent does. This has nothing to do with FM radio, or the iPod. It's about iTunes working on other devices. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I used iTunes long before I ever bought an iPod. It's great for keeping music organized.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7To reply to what someone posted regarding getting megative diggs because they spoke ill of iTunes...no, that's not why people are digging comments in the negative. I think it might have something to do with the fact that this isn't about whether or not iTunes is good or bad, this is about a utility to helps iTunes users continue to use iTunes, but have their non-iPod players work with it better. Comments that bash iTunes, posted to this story, should be negatively digged, because they are off-topic.
- geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12This isn't about what YOU want. It's about what people who actually enjoy using iTunes want.
- dramatools, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Guess they don't always "play for sure." However, you'll still be limited to MP3 tracks since very few if any non-Apple players provide AAC (even though they should). I would just as soon use another application to manage my music if I were using such a player (Disclaimer: I own an iPod) instead of trying to get iTunes to communicate with my device through a third party shim.
- moiety, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It shouldn't surprise you. Why would they make iTunes compatible with other devices? They make money in two regards: iTunes Music Store and iPod.
1. You buy music through the iTunes Music Store.
2. Due to Apple's DRM, you are now forced to keep using iTunes whether you want to or not.
3. Now with your vast (and crippled) library of legal music, you want to buy an MP3 player. No choice here; your music only plays on iPods.
4. Now that you have your iPod, the circle is complete. There is no reasonable mode of escape for the average user.
Simply put, it would hurt Apple to enable support for such features in iTunes. Everything that limits the end user in iTunes/iPod is on purpose. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I never used anything to manage my music before I started using itunes. I find that it does a great job of keeping things organized into neat and tidy folders. It also updates the tags for the files, and the filename, so things are easy t to get to. Before, I had to use one of those stupid applications that would go through and take my file names and convert them into tags, or vice versa. Every time I downloaded a new file, I had to change the information for it in order to get the file organized. iTunes does all this for me now, like no other digital music manager ever did in the past. It's just easier. That's why people who don't even buy from the iTunes Music Store, or who don't own iPods, use iTunes.
- nrbelex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Haven't tested it but I'm sure you still can't get copy-protected Fair-Play stuff on the non-iPods.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5this requires .net framework. it's probably worth it though..
- ipoddj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4is there anything like this for MacOSX?
- CrazyNic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This seems very cool...since I do have an iPod I can't really test it, but I'd be intrested to know how well it works! I'm surprised apple hasn't put something like this out since iTunes is such a great player and lure customers to iTunes.
- AngryPunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Rio 500 support its a throwback from the old SoundJAM code, isnt it?
- googlyguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If others are looking for it, you can install .Net 2 from Microsoft here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en - Tezkah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2check out amaroK for KDE, or rhythmbox for GNOME, both are quite similar to itunes, and very nice programs.
- vaxguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone ever tried media monkey? It claims to have support for quite a few mp3 players and is a fairly clean and intuitive player. http://www.mediamonkey.com/
- karbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2iTunes Agent does not manipulate the setup of iTunes in any way, like it seems BadApple does. iTunes Agent simply uses the API provided by Apple, so you do not have to be afraid that iTunes will be locked, or messed up in any way.
- Jams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All it needs is to be able to run it through the Fairplay DRM remover before copying to the device :)
- eccramer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wish it would work on Windows Mobile devices. Microsoft's WMP integration is REALLY kludgy. If this starts supporting winmob, I would be a very happy geek.
- SlashNot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Because some people just like to use it for organization, not everyone who uses itunes for organizing buys the songs. All the songs i purchase from itunes are always burned then reripped to delete the DRM. ITUNES is great for organization.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Looks pretty cool...I use SonicStage because of the ATRAC3+ compression, but still pretty cool.
- ninjakarl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Probably because they want you to buy the iPod so that you have increased functionality. If I were them I wouldn't bring it out, they'd lose money on people using iTunes but not buying a nice expensive (for me, I'm poor) iPod.
- Tezkah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The best part is that my friend and i were arguing about ipods, he said the worst thing about the ipod is that you *HAVE* to use itunes. And here we have people wanting to use itunes with their non-ipod players :)
- BadgerOU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Others have said it, but I'll say it again. Some people (including myself) like iTunes -- whether it's because it's basically a no-frills music player or because it organizes music well, there are several reasons why one might want to use iTunes.
- thecoolestcow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you're going to have a PFS device, made my Microsoft, why would you _want_ to use iTunes? Most people don't like to mix Microsoft with Apple.
- yugiohdan6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3because it's a good program
- regedit2D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm a windows user as if my logo didn't show that, but I hate windows media player for music. I prefer iTunes because it's easier to use and is just generally better for music playing. I'll use whatever is good, whatever the company.
- maloney_633, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What I need is something to strip the DRM and transfer it over to my Samson Mp3 player in one step.
- Nowheredan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, that's what I thought. Stupid Plays-For-Sure...
- regedit2D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yes, I did. It didn't damage my iPod, but it did produce weird playback. It might not have been wmp or the iPod, but who know.
- G20NYK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was waiting for something like this. great find.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's quite nice, and is far far far better UI that WMP, espically for large music libaries (6000~ songs)
I use iTunes for music, Winamp for stuff I watch while doing other things (Internet/MSN for example), since I can minimize the main player to a bar, and have the have it set to always on top, then WMP whem I'm not using the computer as it works with my IR remote..
iTunes is neat, and the consolidate/arrange music libary is extremely usefull, and it's worth usign iTunes for that alone (Change the default music libary away from the Music/iTunes/Music libary first though).. It's nice unless your music goes across more than 1 HD...
Anyway, this doesn't really look.. complete.. If it acted like an iPod it'd be great, but having to sync it via a playlist and right-click the sys-tray icon is a bit meh..
- Ben - thecoolestcow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why not use Winamp? It has support for most removable media with the release of the new version.
- CptnObvious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The desciption says its only for UMS (Universal Mass Storage) devices and I don't think the Vision:M is.
- aquax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't see any mention of this, but I assume this does not copy tracks purchased from the iTMS, and encoded with the FairPlay DRM.
- TheProfessional, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One of the major features of mass storage mp3 players is that you don't have to use itunes, ephpod, aphpod or any other program to load music on it. I don't think I would ever try this out. Nice for those that want to use itunes though.
- yugiohdan6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no you can't copy fair-play protected songs to anything but an ipod...
- GotoDengo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll test it. I keep looking for something good that syncs my Podcasts, which I aggregate with iTunes, onto my Treo.
I tried Idletunes, but it didn't work so well so I've resigned to copying them manually. - magik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Too bad Apple didn't make this, so it's not like they're making money off of you using iTunes due to this program. Someone was nice enough to create an application that lets you use the intuitive iTunes music manager with non-iPod mp3 players. It's a god-send!
- jamesezar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1works great with my psp. I LOVE IT!!
- Coreguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cool stuff....I'll recommend it to my friends.
I hope iTunes can support other DAPs natively in the near future. OPEN is the trend. - Gundam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2On my Mac, iTunes recognizes my ancient Rio 500 just great, don't know how many other MP3 players it will do that for though.
- webslinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Like the idea ,but can you still use the apple music store. After i downloaded bad apple that did the same thing they booted me and i had to format before i could access the music store again.
- SlashNot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It wont even run on my laptop, keeps screwing up. Must be a bad install.
- the1casey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6A funny thing happened when I plugged my iPod in while WMP 10 was running. WMP recognized it and asked me if I wanted to synchronize my iPod with WMP. Of course I didn't do it, not wanting to risk ruining my iPod, but I wonder if anybody else has come across this and has tried it?
Anyone? - NicP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What we really need is a universal open standard for digital audio players to sync with an application, like a SyncML for multimedia. It would also be rather nice if Apple opened up their Bonjour/DAAP technology so more devices would support zero configuration media streaming from other computers on the LAN.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i wouldn't think that many people would use this for there non-ipod mp3 players, but i suppose this could be good for making regular backups of you iTunes music, i would be devastated if i lost my collection and making backups of it all the time is a real pain in the behind. so ipod users might also find this software appealing.
