- boyasunder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43Well... some of us have jobs. So yes, we have to.
- Anpheus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Oh, I'm sorry, where's the open source competition for it?
... Precisely. - pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15you are so l33t
- the1theonly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9SyncMyCal has one huge disadvantage : It costs money. USD 25 according to the website for a single user license.
Yes, yes.
there is the free SyncMyCal Lite : but that only allows a 7 day Synchronization Date Range Selection.
I think I'm gonna stick to gSyncit - Caliente, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Lovely, been wanting something like this for aaaages/.
I was hoping Google would release it themselves, but hey, if it works...
side note - if the title of this article was gSyncit for Microsoft Outlook on Ubuntu!!! there would be a veritable flood of diggs. - pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@elvenseven: I've been using Thunderbird at home for a while, yes, but I've been continually thinking about grabbing a copy of Office 2003/7, because I really like the Outlook client. At my old job, we had Exchange + Outlook, and it ran really well ... Thunderbird OTOH, has given me a lot of quirkiness over the past few years. For the average home user, I'm guessing Outlook Express would fit the bill, but I really want the more powerful feature of the full client; It's actually pretty nice despite what some people may think.
@Anpheus: I'm guessing the answer most open-source advocates would give you is Evolution, but I have yet to see that really stand up against Outlook/Exchange in terms of features and reliability - HUKI365, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Why hasn't Google/Microsoft already done this? About time. But, yes kudos to this guy. My gMail/Outlook/w810i circle is complete!
- ksainath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Now if only someone make this work for Lotus Notes. As much as I hate Notes some corporate kinds don;t have a choice sometimes
- adolfojp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Because otherwise they couldn't sell you their subscription services.

"With Outlook Connector, you can use Microsoft Outlook 2002, Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, or Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 to access and manage your Microsoft Windows Live Mail or Microsoft Office Live Mail accounts, including e-mail messages, calendar, tasks, notes, and contacts."
"The following is also required:
A paid subscription-based e-mail account from MSN Hotmail, Windows Live Mail, Office Live, or Windows Live Custom Domains" - popltree2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@mweather
But do any of those have Exchange support? - adolfojp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There are a couple of free alternatives for Outlook 2003. This is the first one that I see that works with 2007.
Thank you and nice find Digg. :-D - raitchison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@mweather Outlook is a lot more than just an E-Mail client, even your typical barely-computer-literate office worker does meeting scheduling and may use it for task tracking. More advanced users can make use of more features.
There is no open source product (or collection of products) that can match the functionality of Outlook+Exchange, nor will there be until a successor to IMAP4 is developed that gives open source products the capability that the proprietary MAPI protocol does. This is why other commercial products like GroupWise or Notes can compare to Outlook, they both use proprietary protocols which give them a lot more functionality than what any current standards based protocol can. The limitations of IMAP4 are holding back any open source product. - larryni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Neat!
I only had one problem, the toolbar didn't display properly in Outlook 2003. If you have the same problem then install 'Redistributable Primary Interop Assemblies' from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3c9a983a-ac14-4125-8ba0-d36d67e0f4ad&displaylang=en
After that run the installer for gSyncit again and select the Fix option. - pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, we use Groupwise unfortunately, and the Groupwise Connector for Outlook pretty much fails at life. If we do eventually move to Exchange/Outlook, I would love to be able to use this ... maybe I should just switch from Thunderbird to Outlook at home ...
- BIGmog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I use Google calendar for personal and Outlook calendar for work (same for email). It's less convenient to keep them separate but I'd rather not mix them.
- wiirdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ugh! Got the same error as 'swollentiki'. I would love to get it to work. I'm on Outook 2003 too.

- allyant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't seem to enable the add-in on Outlook 2007...

for 2007 - swollentiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice concept, but it's not working for me either. I use my username and password and leave the default ATOM feed and I get an error on update. I then put calendar address and private address XML feeds from the calendar details section and it says the calendar is read-only. What's the deal?
If it makes any difference, I'm using Outlook 2003. - toesofrubber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah - try Spanning Sync - it's currently in beta (v1.0b16) but it works a treat! between that and isync, i get all my calendars on my powerbook/ipod/k610i/anywhere i can get some web access - life is sweet :-)
grab it from http://spanningsync.com/beta - emilbp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use GCalSync (http://www.gcalsync.com/) to syncronize my Google Calendar with my Sony Ericsson k750i. Works great!
- raynar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Airset is really good. Its on online one, and when you first set it up, just make sure you have the same categories as you have in outlook to sync. Then run the little client and set its update schedule on however many machines you want to sync, and it takes care of the rest.
Free. - 17arkb1ack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Me Neither, outlook2007 on vista. Installed the "PrimaryInteropAssembly" for office 2007 as suggested on website, still no icons.
- wadelindsey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Has anyone found a way to have a reminder set by default in your gCal for events imported from Outlook?
- madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks a ton, larryni!
- mgoyal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can anyone recommend a tool to sync Outlook 2007 email with Gmail? It only has to be a one time sync.
How about for syncing contacts?
I need to push from Outlook to Gmail.
Thanks. - irvkatz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Has anyone figured out how to sync a Nokia E62 from Cingular with Google Calendar?
- colascdave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Check out Schedule World: http://www.scheduleworld.com/ I can't speak for Outlook or Thunderbird/Lightning but it works great at syncing Evolution to Google. There are plugins for Outlook and for Thunderbird/Lightning. From what I've seen on the message board, lots of Outlook users are using Schedule World.
- graiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got it to half work in Outlook 2007 (WinXP). I can get a feed from Google Calendar into Outlook but I can't sync my Outlook calendar back to Google. As soon as I set the URL to my private calendar XML the option to do a bi-directional sync gets grayed out. If I don't alter the default feed location I get an error "Execution of request failed."
- bob.os, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ScheduleWorld works great. Combine that with the ($$) NexHaus SyncJe SymcML client for Outlook and you've got an unbeatable (I've found) solution.
- EvilUmpir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I keep getting an error, anyone else? It's :
Error: String was not recognized as valid DateTime
at System.DateTimeParse.ParseExact(String s, String format, DateTimeFormatInfo dtfi, DateTimeStyles style)

Any help would be appreciated!
I wrote dave about it yesterday when I saw this on Life hacker, but now that it's on dig i'm sure he's gonna be flooded with emails! - Splutterbug, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nice step in the right direction! Anyone know of something similar to this to use with ical on a mac?
- jzamoras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I used companionlink for gcal and it messed up my calendar badly. Does this work right?
- xardoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just FYI it seemed to work at first but on the second sync it wiped out all my entries that I had syncd from google onto outlook and wiped the originals on google as well! all those bithdays etc that I had took the time to put in down the drain. Your mileage may vary....
- aparsons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My sync options are grayed out - so my gmail calendar is "read only". I really want to "push" my outlook calendar to my gmail calendar. I wish there was more documentation for this tool... it looks promising.
- sparkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Same here - wish there was a support forum for this, but hey, free tool for those that it's working for, so we really can't complain.
- swollentiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just tried it with my other Gmail account, and I still get the same error. Has anyone gotten this app to work? I'm using Exchange server if that makes a difference.
- slashdotted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish mozilla's sunbird would get its act together, add alarms and print a bit nicer:
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/ - kickarse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Link to the actual download if your behind a firewall you can't change...
http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/gSyncit.msi - kevincw01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@nocredits: same question here. I use gmail for domains so my default calendar ATOM feed is different than the normal google calendar one. And in his app, if you change the default URL it makes it read only. He says on his website that this is a restriction of the gcal API. Hopefully he can support hosted gcal default calendars too. I sent him an email but if you send him one too it might help.
- fitzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is also a download for 2007 on that page.
- CarzorStelatis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@wassim2k:
Evolution has full Exchange support. - courane01, on 03/07/2008, -0/+1http://digg.com/tech_news/Google_Launches_MS_Offic ... - they work now
- Eisim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1for those of you looking to only keep your mobile phone/pda fully synced with your google calendar, and don't have a need to stop by outlook - check out http://www.goosync.com/ - free over-the-air 2-way sync between almost any mobile device and google calendar with syncml, no need to download any software to your phone or comp - like gcalsync.com.
- Klargodut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really like this application, but was heavily disturbed by the balloon tip, and especially the sound it made, so I hacked the code and stopped the tip from automatically displaying on each sync.
Now, it runs perfectly and peacefully and syncs between my pocket PC, Outlook and Google Calendar every 10 minutes. Wonderful! If anyone wants the hacked dll, feel free to contact me. - madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This thing deleted all entries from my Outlook Calendar.
They showed up in Google, but it wouldn't sync them back.
Make a Backup! - ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm having problems getting past my work proxy. When I go to the proxy tab in the synch settings, the field with the proxy is un-editable. It has a proxy in there, and I enter in my user id and pass, but I get this when I try to synch,

Does anyone know where it's getting the proxy server? or how to change it? - Rethcir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dunno. I actually embarked on a plan to do this this week. All I wanted to do was autosync my work Outlook calendar to my Google calendar to look at at home. I have been able to do this successfully by following the excellent instructions below. I used a combination of Funambol and ScheduleWorld.com. It's not super elegant like this but it looks like it will be better for periodic automatic one-way sync from Outlook to Google.
