- cr3ative, on 10/29/2007, -1/+66Ah well, looks like my server can't handle Digg. Sorry about that. I'm a student, I can't afford anything more expensive than a basic dedicated. :(
It works as so:
- Queries Dogpile.com for results, receives back a HUGE list of mostly dead links
- Pings each link and checks the content type and size, mp3 length
- Only outputs valid MP3 results.
It works pretty well when there's not an internet mob all trying to use it at the same time - bookmark it for later!
/edit: Hahaha, considering I coded it, godamit, I can inform you that you're really rather wrong. :) - FishNChimps, on 10/12/2007, -2/+65the music companies will hate it
that's why i love it
superb - Neospadge, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35I love this site
- RlAA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28...sued.
- cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33Dear archabay,
Oh GOD! I never knew. I'll take the site down right now!
... yeah.
Love and kisses,
cr3. - cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25For some reason, the owners of creative.co.uk didn't want to seem to give it up. :)

- Twoodge, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Actually, 'yours' doesn't take an apostrophe even as a possessive (just like its). I win!
- michaelbrett, on 10/12/2007, -14/+33Using "3"'s in place of "e"'s is annoying.
- cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18@m1th: True, but it'd be a lot more work to parse, and Google VERY quickly blocks excessive queries.
Although, that said, the server is on a Linux box. I'm sure if I went into a Linux forum and shouted "THIS IS SO MUCH EASIER ON WINDOWS", I'd get around 10 PhD's all trying to help me. :) - cr3ative, on 10/29/2007, -0/+18£0 so far.
- cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Woops, just restarting apache! Sorry, guys.
- cr3ative, on 10/29/2007, -0/+16I could easily open-source the code, it could work on any server without any changes.
BUT:
All the RIAA would have to do is shut down Dogpile's audio search, then it'd break. - Twoodge, on 10/12/2007, -12/+28Using apostrophes where they're not needed is also annoying. In fact, you've used quotation marks AND (incorrect) apostrophes to denote plurals. How about just "Using 3s in place of Es is annoying"? Don't bitch about others' use of the English language when yours clearly isn't up to scratch, kay? =)
- cr3ative, on 10/29/2007, -0/+16@code_of_life:
I would, but it makes specific calls to my server's file architecture and all that at the moment. If I were to get enough financial support to do it, I would - time is money, and the script is over 300kb in PHP. That's a lot of lines, and I have very little free time. Sorry.
Also - thanks everyone for the offers of servers/hosting plans, but due to the server calls, I can't accept it. :( - scoper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19you people need to get outside
- cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I'm hosted in Le France. But, if I do, down it comes. I don't need legal expenses. The site doesn't even pay for itself in donations.
/edit: Have a bandwidth graph to ponder. http://i18.tinypic.com/311l34x.png - brutalwit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15that's probably the funniest comment I've ever seen on digg. kudos to whoever created that account.
- noisuf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Wonder if this guy has an RIAA t-shirt?
- swoopdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14love the site will throw some money your way so you can buy more expensive beans
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14STFU!
- cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14There's partially a reason, grandpa :)
My online "nickname" is cr3ative, but someone was domain squatting that at the time, so I used cr3ation.co.uk instead.
The subdomain site was originally an image host for b3ta.com - a rather popular image message board. Hence, b3ta.cr3ation.co.uk. - cr3ative, on 10/29/2007, -1/+13Sharky, it's not designed to specifically be a piracy tool. It can bring up some wonderful things like "crying babies" and "the sound of wind".
You can get off your pedestal. If you don't like my site, you also don't like Dogpile, because they provide the links. Dogpile gets their links off Google, Yahoo, AllTheWeb and a few others. Shall we moan at them too? - pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Also, twoodge is correct.
http://www.elearnenglishlanguage.com/difficulties/yours.html - m1th, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12@cr3ative you should release your script so people can put it up on as many number of servers as possible... make RIAA's job a living hell.
- Snakedal337, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Release the script!
- cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@theworkz: It'll still query my site for results, though - it's still working, just very very slowly. Sorry again!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"Pirating is here to stay..."
Yes, they have cool puffy shirts and the eye patches are so awesome! - DangerMouse9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10For a second I thought you were ecstatic that it found Menundo
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10RIAA-shill alert!!!!!
- cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@godamit:
I pay for a dedicated 10mbps server at the moment - I'd get instantly booted off shared hosting, I use a crapload of CPU cycles and way too much bandwidth transfer for that.
The only way I could improve the server performance would be to either upgrade the line speed (which I can't afford, I already pay for the site out of my own pocket - donations are rare), or to move onto something like RackSpace where they can cluster the code over servers, or something.
To conclude: I'm a student. Anything that isn't under £15 a month, I can't afford. :) - cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Hurrah! ASDA beans are rather runny. :)
- markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@Raynar:
Wow! Never heard of that before! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+72 cr3ative:
I see... But you could put there some adsence... Anyways :)
and, you've said (below) "Google VERY quickly blocks excessive queries." - what does that mean? i can't query google as much as i want from my site or what? - arkmtech, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10@archabay: Usually I'd write a concise & well-versed lecture about how you're wrong here, but instead I'm just going to keep it simple: You're an idiot.
I disapprove of the RIAA's practices - They are one of the most prominent faces of condoned terrorism within the United States. Their tactics are as classless as they are spurious, and I simply WILL NOT SUPPORT them and their abuse of the legal system. I will support & purchase the music of any band/musician that is not involved with the RIAA. Give me my tinfoil hat and call my batsh*t crazy, but you'd have to be blind (and deaf, and dumb) to not understand that purchasing RIAA-backed music supports terrorism and the abuse of legal systems everywhere.
Take your self righteous holier-than-thou bureaucratic bullsh*t and suck my balls. - DTAL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Why do you think?
- PRlME, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm a student. I live off beans on toast. Help!
Awww some body send this guy some money...i'm a student also it sux - 12geeks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sounds like a great way to get a letter from the RIAA.
- m1th, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6then we will simply modify the code to point to google instead and alter the parser to look for other criteria and get the mp3s. :)
- ChillyEli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Luckily Digg already wrote the code for ignoring you.
*whew* - ostracize, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The site is down. Can someone explain where it gets it's mp3s from? How does it provide this all free?
- shark72, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9"Sharky, it's not designed to specifically be a piracy tool. It can bring up some wonderful things like "crying babies" and "the sound of wind"."
When you wrote "music search plus" and "put in the name of any band," you were suggesting that people use it to find free music put out by bands. Come on, let's not fool ourselves.
"You can get off your pedestal. If you don't like my site, you also don't like Dogpile, because they provide the links. Dogpile gets their links off Google, Yahoo, AllTheWeb and a few others. Shall we moan at them too?"
Huh? You're preaching to the choir here. I wished you luck and suggested that you ask your users to donate 10% of the money they save using your site. I think it's great that you're helping level the playing field. They way I see it, if the musicians (who expect people to PAY for their music) make less, and people like you make more (since you're helping us get it for free), then things will be a little better in the world. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+62 cr3ative: it's ok dude, it was just a suggestion ;)
but, you see, your site gives very few results when using google you could find much more stuff... (i've tried different artists :)
so, if you could improve your script (to use google) - and pay for a normal hosting - it could be phucking nice. (riaa eat ***** - we're just querying google) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4....and more!!! the site is already down!
- kevsedg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Excellent site.
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Haven't you heard? Numbers are the new letters.
- decadence, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Destroying all the p2p apps, free music download sites, and pushing up CD prices can only serve to have an inversely proportional affect on the economic feasibility of me being able to collect and hear the music I love and share it with the people I love.
- flxfxp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Digg is slamming on the door :P
