- phishyJon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i dunno, skypenet sounds an awful lot like skynet, and we all know that was the computer system that took over the world in terminator 2...
- toekneebullard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OK folks, here it is:
SkypeNet - pe = SkyNet.
Be afraid. - mcewen98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't see what all the hype is about these pc to pc voice programs. Maybe I just don't understand them, but I remember programs like this back in 1998. Broadband wasn't as popular and they didn't work as well back then, but still, AOL an Yahoo have had voice communication for quite some time. With many people having cell phones and free national long distance how important is this really? I'de rather use my cell phone from anywhere than use some dorky headset tethered to a computer.

how so? currently Google Talk is just a locked down client for a jabber server with a talk function? I'm sure it is a good platform for further development but currently it is of little use to anyone without friends with gmail accounts! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I can't wait until we have one app that allows you to IM any network and voice call any voice network. this is a step in that direction!"

Cues the music! - DiGiTaLFX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Definatly google that prompted this!
- honeycut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like skype is in damage control... It's interesting that they've announced these new features before they're ready. Google might have given old skype a little fright today methinks.

I felt the same way ... - Designhaus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too little, too late. sorry Skype.

Agreed. I was using ICQ and SpeakFreely to chat with someone from Australia back in early 1998. - Jicksta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hah, I remember there was a Google Summer of Code idea for the Gaim project to include Skype support in the messenger.
I hope no one's been actually working the hard way trying to crack that protocol when Skype just came out and announces it now... - ARTFACT™, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's sick :p Skypenet = skynet..
In Belgium they have skynet as Internet provider..
So what :p
if they are going to takeover the world they should at least have a cooler name.
Anyway Skype is amazing and those new ideas are great. Can't wait - PeterM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another good submit, Albert.
