- accn112, on 04/05/2009, -2/+51So.... google just needs to buy Zoho right?
- fadetoone, on 04/06/2009, -0/+32Submitter grammar kick no one's ass.
- stong98, on 04/06/2009, -2/+27You can actually log into Zoho with your google account. It just requires an extra click on the login page to click the button to log in with Google or Yahoo.
- redrabbit, on 04/06/2009, -8/+24Zoho is great, but I already have a Gmail account, so I just use Google Docs for the sake of having one less thing to log in to.
- DBeta, on 04/06/2009, -1/+12Google really needs to step it up with Google Docs. Google Docs works fine for plain text that never leaves gDocs, but the second you want to create a table with a pretty border, or print a document, the thing falls apart. I spent 20 minutes trying to tweak the CSS to make it preview and print the same. I like having that power, but I hate being forced to use it.
- Chuckanut, on 04/06/2009, -2/+11Writer 2.0 *Kicks* Google Docs' Ass. Just because it's 2.0 doesn't mean it's plural.
- jemka, on 04/06/2009, -2/+11"who needs more features than Google Docs?"
Me, and I'll bet I'm not alone. - cyrusuncc, on 04/06/2009, -1/+10seems nice, but I worry that this company will go out of business and i'll lose my word processor. At least google isn't going anywhere.
edit: it's a pretty slick interface, but it is SLOOOOOOW - jason210, on 04/06/2009, -2/+11me
- jemka, on 04/06/2009, -1/+10Note to bot author. This entry should have appeared in a shout. I would submit this error to your bugfix tracker, but I guess having a public tracker for your bot application would defeat the purpose. Too bad.
- jemka, on 04/06/2009, -0/+8They have the right colors in their logo. That alone is a great reason for google to buy them.
- kylere, on 04/06/2009, -1/+8I am trying to figure out why I would want to change to Zoho from Google Apps, and this article does not give me any solid reasons. Not to mention that I do not see a "do not evil" clause from their company. I am just as much critic as fan of Google, but they still offer the superior over all option.
- cgruber, on 04/06/2009, -0/+6That appears to be a strong business model.
- basotl, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5The article tells us clearly that Zoho Writer lacks a grammar checker.
- jerrycan, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5It may be better but I like how gdocs does everything I need and is quick and integrated with all things google. But it is nice to have choice and for that I say good work and good luck to you Zoho.
- counterplex, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5I'm trying to figure out how to spell pwned... anyone?
- mdesilver, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5Zoho will never gain any traction. Google Apps has the market for online apps, which is actually gathering a lot of traction right now even with our enterprise clients. They're looking at Microsoft Office like they look at Project and Visio, not everybody needs to have it. So they use it for the staff they believe doesn't need the intense WP and Spreadsheet capability.
The long and short of it is that Zoho is nice, but won't gain market share regardless of it's usability. Also, Microsoft will enter this space in 9-12 months. Then the game changes and you'll probably never hear of Zoho again - verevi, on 04/06/2009, -0/+4Actually, Zoho does have this. In fact, its quite feature-rich and it's called Zoho Creator. Check it out.
- Acronym, on 04/06/2009, -0/+4hmmz the Zoho office suite doesn't even load for me
- jemal, on 04/06/2009, -0/+4"Zoho Writer 2.0 Kick Google Docs' Ass" ???
The article gives Zoho a score of 7.7/10
But their review of google docs ( http://www.zdnet.com.au/reviews/software/internet/ ... ) back in Sep08 gives google a score of 9/10. - mdesilver, on 04/06/2009, -1/+5actually we're seeing a huge influx of interest from SMB and Enterprise. The economy is pushing the desire
- XeroXenith, on 04/06/2009, -1/+5If it ends in "s", it's usually acceptable to end with an apostrophe.
Example:
"James's book" works as well as "James' book". - anaclagon, on 04/06/2009, -0/+4Hey man you might want to check your grammar.
- jmeller, on 04/06/2009, -2/+5Using Firefox 3 on Zoho Writer...and I can't use backspace. Anyone else seeing the same thing?
- oninbonin, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3Never heard of killing someone in the nuts lol
- Dankoozy, on 04/07/2009, -0/+2because everything must be done from inside the web browser these days... for some reason
- ahmedzoho, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2We are seeing 15x the traffic on Zoho Apps today. Thanks to NYT & Digg. The system is being stabilized and is up now. Can you please try again and write to us at support@zoho.com in case the issue persists.
Thanks,
Ahmed
http://zoho.com - rpgmakr, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2Or put the google docs division to work :)
I actually find google docs to be very useful. Most people don't need an office suite to edit or create their documents. But I would suggest google to improve the way google docs writer handle pages, a good way to actually divide your document in pages in all the standard sizes. - nsoonhui, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2By then Zoho would be brought over by Microsoft and rebranded under Microsoft's name.

I get this when i try to use the writer...
and a 401 error, that's not even because of too many visitors right? they can't even blame this on digg.. - str3ama, on 04/06/2009, -2/+4maybe it's just me but I prefer an offline application as opposed to a web based counterpart. The internet is reliable but not as reliable as an actual application that can remain permanently on my computer regardless of whether the creator of the program becomes bankrupt years from now.
Anyways, it certainly is better than Google Docs UI wise, but I think they're relying on making it very familiar to users by replicating the UI of microsoft word. I'd have rather they changed things up and streamlined Words UI to the bare essentials (but don't do it like office 2007/vista, which was horrible) - zmigliozzi, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2I was just introduced last week to zoho actually in my technical writing class, its sad to say but ya it blows google apps out of the water.
- falafelkiosken, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2yeah we can see that from your nickname
- mdesilver, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2i can see that happening
- Eriksrocks, on 04/07/2009, -0/+1It didn't work for me either on the first opening document. I created a new document and typed in some text and then hit backspace, and it works fine now. Try that.
- ahmedzoho, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1Support for Google Chrome is limited for now. I would request you to access Zoho Writer on a Firefox 2.0+ or IE 6/7 browser versions for better experience. Full support for Chrome is coming soon.
Appreciate your understanding in this regard.
Thanks,
Ahmed
http://zoho.com - 7aji, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1Glad that I can use my Google account to use it, so I don't need to create yet another account :)
Also it says that it's not fully supported in Chrome but it works fine with it when I use it. - apesaje, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1Google doesn't like being inferior. So if they can't beat them, buy them. And replace the Z O H O in the cubes into D O C S.
- AtWorkSurfer, on 04/06/2009, -1/+2Nice thing about Google docs is that it's easy to access them from your phone. For example my wife and I maintain a shopping list on gDocs that either of us can easily access at any time from any computer or our phones when. I looked at the Zoho site just now but it was not clear to me whether you could do this.
- mrBitch, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1RE: " ... it's a pretty slick interface, but it is SLOOOOOOW "
Ok, now try it again, but this time use Chrome as your browser... - whiledo, on 04/06/2009, -1/+2Maybe you shouldn't post redundant comments.
- Aaronthethird, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1Its been 5 minutes and it's still not even loaded. If it died due to too many visitors then I am certainly not going to ever use it. I can't access to my word processor being contingent on no one else using it.
- ahmedzoho, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1garnwraly : This is ahmed from zoho. There seems to be some discrepancy in your Zoho account which is causing the 401 error.
Can you please email us your Zoho account details (username/email address) to support@zohoaccounts.com? We will check our logs and get back to you with details on the solution.
Apologies for the inconvenience.
Regards,
Ahmed
http://zoho.com - darkmagician777, on 04/07/2009, -0/+1Question for people who use Online apps.
Whats the difference between Google docs, Zoho and say traditional Apps like Open Office or Word? Sure you may be able to store your apps on line, but flash drives are so cheap now do you really want to waste time logging into a system? - bobdigi, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1Zo who?
- erzz, on 04/06/2009, -0/+1It's like kicking but involving knives
- mrBitch, on 04/06/2009, -2/+2@ str3ama RE: "...maybe it's just me but I prefer an offline application as opposed to a web based counterpart."
Before you post a comment, how about you RTFA. It's only on the SECOND SENTENCE in the article :
"Google Docs and Zoho, for example, are both free and well-featured web-based suites — and both can be used offline, thanks to Google Gears." - ahmedzoho, on 04/06/2009, -0/+0Aaronthethird : Sorry about the issue faced by you in accessing Zoho Writer.
Believe you would have faced this problem when the response from one of the Zoho Writer servers was a bit patchy. It has been resolved now and you should be able to work on your document without any further problems. Please try logging in to Zoho Writer and let us know your observations.
Do write back to us at support@zohowriter.com in case the problem persists.
Apologies again for the inconvenience
Regards,
Ahmed
